Why? Why oh why are people still coming here on holiday?

Devon. We have seen caravans and motorhomes and people obviously on holiday (canoe and suitcases etc on car roof, all that stuff; it's bloody obvious), bikes loaded with camping stuff....

We live 20 miles from the beach and none of us have seen a wave for weeks. DH spends half the day complaining because he can't go to the beach in this lovely weather as he normally does.

Thank goodness the market is not on, or we'd be over-run. Really worried as both dd and I are vulnerable (not extremely vulnerable) and dh freaks out every time he has to go out as our Designated Shopper that he'll bring it home to us.

Why are people such arseholes?

We're going to need road blocks!

It was on the main Beeb news tat police are turning people back.

But they do it because they think there's no harm, and belligerently challenge people for scientific proof that their breach of the rules is harmful.

You just can't win in debate with that level of stupid. They think they have clinching arguments because people stop engaging, not realising it's not because they have a winning argument but because so many people don't want to use their time on fruitless exchanges with the selfishly blinkered. Unfortunately that does tend to reinforce smug sense that they know better than the rules.

But one hopes the police will get through to them when necessary

AdaFromYorkshire · 09/04/2020 19:13

We should be going on holiday to the south coast this weekend. But we not, because we are not selfish, stupid or irresponsible. I doubt if we will go further than the garden until at least Tuesday. People need to be fined and turned round. Part of me is also tempted to suggest that they become low priority for any NHS treatment.

Joans3rddaughter · 09/04/2020 19:15

I am so angry with the way some people behave and continue to ignore the
Government instructions. These will be the same people that were panic buying and hoarding a few weeks ago. They are types. Just completely selfish.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 09/04/2020 19:16

Cumbria police escorted a family of 6 back to the M6 from Windermere very recently; they had come up from Leigh near Wigan. Bet they enjoyed the nice quiet motorway!

Hippofrog · 09/04/2020 19:17

@ AdaFromYorkshire, they should 100% not get nhs treatment (and id refuse the twats a vaccine as well) selfish bastards

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 09/04/2020 19:18

Same in Dorset - I can hear the traffic rushing past on the main road a little way from my house - just like an ordinary Bank Holiday. It's mad. Go home - you stupid people.

PoppliosBubble · 09/04/2020 19:21

I’m in S Devon and my street which normally has one other family here is packed. I got a note through the door a few days ago asking me not to put my bins out the night before as it makes the street look unsightly. Fucking cheek. These people often don’t come from one year to the next and then turn up and make bin demands. I put them out a day early instead.

nevergooogle · 09/04/2020 19:24

Wtf? Don't put your bins out the night before!? Ruude.

Also Devon here, I really do wish they would set up a road block.

TheFutureMrsHardy · 09/04/2020 19:24

We live rurally, and have been plagued with dog walkers coming into the village and leaving cars.

They've now had to blockade off the main car park to the village hall and the village cricket field. You can see them drive up, and read the signs with such indignation that the rule doesn't apply to them..............

You just know that they've been the ones panic buying and have 3839298384893423 toilet rolls in their garages Grin

sobeyondthehills · 09/04/2020 19:25

I think it should be an on the spot fine.

Its obviously not been helped by those that can afford it still doing it, I believe Gordon Ramsey is not very popular with his Cornish neighbours

morecoffeerequired · 09/04/2020 19:25

How about the army? They can put up roadblocks on the A30 and A303 (plenty of army bases round there) and man them, leaving the police free to deal with crime.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/04/2020 19:25

That really is a new level of wankery, Popplios.

I would have been tempted to put a note through every door saying "Fuck off back to where you came from you entitled twats."

ScrumpyBetty · 09/04/2020 19:25

I live in the South West and my local news site has said police are blockading the motorway and A30 to stop people travelling to Devon- is this not happening then? People travelling are Utter idiots. They should be so fined a hefty sum and sent home

Tonyaster · 09/04/2020 19:27

I'm in a holiday area. Loads of 4x4s with roofboxes in my local supermarket car park today. Unless it was the local yummy mummies needing extra space for the sauvignon blanc I suspect utter cunts from London.

I literally hate them.

MrsJonnyWilkinson · 09/04/2020 19:28

We were due to be away this week in Torbay. We decided not to go so cancelled and then the holiday park closed 3 hours later so definitely did the right thing. We have friends in that area and they said so much is closed. Where are all of these idiots staying?!

Butterymuffin · 09/04/2020 19:30

As well as roadblocks there should be signs up saying 'non lorries should turn round at next junction and after that police will issue on the spot fines and points on your licence'. Bloody idiots.

@PoppliosBubble I would leave my bin out all week now! That's filled me with rage on your behalf.

AddressLabel · 09/04/2020 19:31

My friend who lives in Snowdonia National Park says the police are out on the roads sending people back home

Yep, and still they come. From what I’ve seen on facebook, some locals here have started targeting Air b and B now too, and grass anyone up breaking rules.

IdblowJonSnow · 09/04/2020 19:32

Report them. Get their reg numbers and report.
How infuriating to he in lockdown and have others bring the virus (potentially) to your door.
Fuckers.

Tonyaster · 09/04/2020 19:33

Popplios 😮😮

I would have dismantled my dishwasher and stuck it out the front AND taken the wheels of my car if I'd had that note

AvalancheKit · 09/04/2020 19:34

It’s mutated !!

It’s now Caravanovirus

Dreadful disease.

AvalancheKit · 09/04/2020 19:36

It travels around the whole country, coursing through the arterial roadways, clogging up the system.

Appiandterri · 09/04/2020 19:36

Just saw on the local news that police stopped people with a canoe on their car roof driving into the Lake District-idiots!
Are police not doing similar there OP?

MummaGiles · 09/04/2020 19:37

One of the main routes into the Peak District goes through our town. It has been noticeably busier today on that road.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 09/04/2020 19:37

We need the SAS on this or Liam Neeson, you know, people with a certain set of skills that can make people disappear, for good. Or all the locals trick the grockles to a party at the edge of a local cliff and then opps, over they go.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 09/04/2020 19:37

@PoppliosBubble do you have an old sofa you could put in your front garden?
