He would've had a doctor with him around the clock for the past ten days, and access to a huge range of medical treatment at Downing Street. To be admitted to hospital, with the resultant impact on the national psyche, he must be very ill indeed. I have never been a fan, but I hope he gets well soon.

frumpety · 05/04/2020 21:56

Raab is the designated survivor so he will be in charge for as long as he’s needed.

So for as long as things are looking really bad ? 5-10 days and then Boris makes a come back just as things are looking better ?

Sorry that is incredibly cynical of me, I hope Boris and his girlfriend and their unborn child all come out of this unscathed.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2020 21:56

I really don’t see anything hateful about speculating that he might be using private medical care? That’s not a bad thing, or a good thing, it’s just a reasonable possibility that if you can afford private medical care you might use private medical care if it was suitable for what you needed!

It is hateful when it comes from a position of bitter jealousy. And to discuss it when BJ is in hospital and could die is disgusting.

Bool · 05/04/2020 21:56

@DarkDarkNight oh I didn’t see that. If he had shortness of breath then yes that is more scary.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 21:57

It's also quite reasonable to assume that a private hospital would be better suited for batting off the media and nosy parkers and dealing with security details

I suspect they are more worried about his health.

2010Aussie · 05/04/2020 21:57

Ozyman - about Gove? Yes. We definitely DON'T want him in charge. Believe me.

Devlesko · 05/04/2020 21:57

His poor children, and ex's I bet they are worried as mothers of his children and of course his fiance with unborn child.

Bool · 05/04/2020 21:57

@Bluntness100 nope they sent him home quick smart. But this is the PM!!!! Not my DH! So they may keep him in as a precaution.

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 21:57

no i don't get that. There are some seriously viscious and inhumane posters on MN at the moment. A real absence of human decency. Shocking

I don't think people should be criticising Boris Johnson on this thread.

However - his Government and his response over the past few months certainly can be discussed and criticised - and I am sure you can see that.

But that should be for another thread.

Mumto1girl3boys · 05/04/2020 21:58

He's in the risky group - male, older although still in 50s, overweight
Not looking good

I read that last part as 'not good looking'

Shit I'm seriously high risk then!

YangShanPo · 05/04/2020 21:58

I don't agree with his politics but I have a soft spot for old Boris, I remember watching the first time he was on hignfy and he has always been amusing over the years. Hope he gets better soon.

Eireni · 05/04/2020 21:58

Now is not really the time for a party leadership contest though is it really. I guess we’d have Raab for the foreseeable until the virus situation properly stabilises, probably for a year or so at least.

For clarity - I don’t wish BJ dead. Although I also don’t see the point in pretending it’s not a possibility and don’t think it’s inappropriate to wonder/discuss what might happen if the worst did happen. The country would have to go on, we’re in the middle of dealing with the biggest threat we’ve faced for decades and we would need stability in the government ASAP.

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 21:59

Doctor on news just speculated that they would probably do x ray, bloods and scan, focus on lungs. Takes about 2 hours. If she's right, I suppose the results will determine what happens next.

@ShootsFruitAndLeaves

The not-for-profit whose figures you quoted is actually a lobby group for critically ill people in hospitals.

The stats they publish are reported only, no qualification at all is done.

I'm afraid that, as they have a clear political agenda, their figures cannot be stated as being free form bias.

As their figures differ so markedly from the actual figures published from official outlets (PHE, ONS), I'm afraid I place little trust in them.

The actual recovery rate once in hospital (for the general population) is very poor, but one would expect the bar for admission to be far lower as he is the PM, and correspondingly the chance of recovery to be higher.

Poor man, I hope he makes a full recovery.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 21:59

So they may keep him in as a precaution

Don’t be daft, it’s a logistical nightmare. That’s the last thing they’d do. It’s likely also the last place he wants to spend the night.

HappyHammy · 05/04/2020 22:00

Poor man. I.hope he and everyone else suffering.with.this dreadful illness recover soon. Flowers

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 22:00

But then he has a deadly virus and was forced to work in the public eye at the highest level of office.

Who forced him?

I thought the same - if you are really ill, you can't work, however important you think you are to your work.

Obviously I hope he gets better.

Iris243 · 05/04/2020 22:00

I hope he’s okay.

I think they have all been working incredibly hard and many people don’t realise that they are probably working all hours and barely sleeping. The stress must be huge which makes recovery harder.

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 22:01

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off. Talk about fickle!

He wasn't my first choice of PM (and neither would Corbyn), but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Innitogether · 05/04/2020 22:01

He’s probably not recovered as he should have because he won’t have been resting. He’s still had online meetings and I’d imagine there’s plenty of other stuff going on in the background that isn’t cv related. I hope he recovers quickly with some proper care and rest.

Kitchendoctor · 05/04/2020 22:01

That's so weird. This morning I said to my husband'I bet Boris is in hospital' and he is!

Wow! So weird. Well done you Confused

Get well soon Boris

kevintheorangecarrot · 05/04/2020 22:02

I am really hoping he pulls through

catsandlavender · 05/04/2020 22:02

Me praying Boris Johnson gets better soon so he can get back to leading the country is probably the biggest curveball 2020 could send me.

(Not that I would ever have wished him ill... actually no, I probably would have in the past before all this gave me a different perspective)

Besom · 05/04/2020 22:03

I hope he is ok.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 22:04

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off. Talk about fickle!

Its not fickle at all

I think the mans a twat but i dont want him to die...I don’t want anyone to die
