How long would Raab be acting PM for

It would be like if a pm resigns, which has happened plenty, there would be a leadership contest. But let’s not think about that. Hopefully he will be fine.

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 21:50

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off. Talk about fickle

You can do both - criticise the response and wish someone well.

Probably not on this thread though.

PennyNotSoWise · 05/04/2020 21:50

He did look ill in his last video, completely wiped out. I wish him well.

Desmondo2016 · 05/04/2020 21:51

No way is it just precautionary. That just wouldn't happen. IMO He must be iller than they're reporting.

Genevieva · 05/04/2020 21:51

'for testing' suggests pneumonia testing.

Delatron · 05/04/2020 21:51

Yes NHS equipped to deal with an emergency situation whereas private hospitals are more for routine things.

Quartz2208 · 05/04/2020 21:51

Yes he is not in the greatest of categories with age weight and the fact he continued to work and did not rest
But I suspect he has been put in fairly early

Eireni · 05/04/2020 21:52

I really don’t see anything hateful about speculating that he might be using private medical care? That’s not a bad thing, or a good thing, it’s just a reasonable possibility that if you can afford private medical care you might use private medical care if it was suitable for what you needed!

Bool · 05/04/2020 21:52

I think we should stop catastrophising. As said my DH had the same - persistent high fever - but no shortage of breath - and he went in to hospital for oxygen check, listen to the lungs and sent home. It could be what they are saying it is. Let’s see before thinking the worst.

I'll slag off the PM or any other government ministers actions as much as I want, thanks. A lovely freedom of living in the UK. That, however, does not mean I wish any of them ill.

Peapod29 · 05/04/2020 21:53

He was well enough for a phone call with Keir Starmer yesterday, so unless he’s declined rapidly he probably isn’t as unwell as a normal member of the public would have to be for admission at the minute.

Mmm. I have read that people can go downhill very quickly with it and that they can feel better just before becoming more ill. It really sounds a cruel illness for those who are unlucky enough to get the more severe 2nd stage. I do hope he’s ok.

Oneliner · 05/04/2020 21:53

Is that a private hospital? Thought people weren't admitted on a precautionary basis, hence that poor health worker who died at home after being told they weren't a priority.

ozymandiusking · 05/04/2020 21:53

2010aussie Did you mean to be so rude?

titchy · 05/04/2020 21:53

You're not in the U.K. are you bool!?

Pollyputthepizzaon · 05/04/2020 21:54

They’ll be playing it ultra safe as he is the PM. Most people wouldn’t be in hospital at this stage (and I AM a Tory Smile) he will definitely be getting treated differently than the man on the street.

Hope he gets better soon.

Bool · 05/04/2020 21:54

London

Topseyt · 05/04/2020 21:54

I wish him well and hope he recovers soon.

edwinbear · 05/04/2020 21:54

I don’t much care what sort of hospital he’s in as long as he’s getting the care he needs. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope his partner is getting the support she needs.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 21:54

it’s just a reasonable possibility that if you can afford private medical care you might use private medical care

It’s really not, firstly nhs is better equipped than private for this and he’s the prime minister if he used his wealth to go private and avoid the nhs he’d be crucified in the media.

It’s irrelevant, he’s in an nhs hospital as was to be expected

RU562341 · 05/04/2020 21:54

It's also quite reasonable to assume that a private hospital would be better suited for batting off the media and nosy parkers and dealing with security details than a large district general with multiple entrances and thousands of staff.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2020 21:54

@chomalungma no i don't get that. There are some seriously viscious and inhumane posters on MN at the moment. A real absence of human decency. Shocking.

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 21:55

I did wonder if he got dragged downstairs on Thursday to clap the NHS.

He didn't look too well then.

Zofloramummy · 05/04/2020 21:55

I’m in agreement with pp that he is most likely quite unwell. From a publicity angle he would not want to be seen as weak or unable to do his job. I don’t like the man or the Tory party as a public sector worker and a single parent they are not my favourite people! But I hope he is ok and pulls through this. The last thing we need right now is an unstable government.

DarkDarkNight · 05/04/2020 21:55

He does seem to have shortness of breath though Bool or certainly on the last video I saw of him.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 21:56

As said my DH had the same - persistent high fever - but no shortage of breath - and he went in to hospital for oxygen check, listen to the lungs and sent home. It could be what they are saying it is

So he wasn’t kept overnight then? So not the same at all?
