Aussie It is irrelevant how you feel about Mr Gove, there is no need to be rude.

lyralalala · 05/04/2020 22:05

Doctor on news just speculated that they would probably do x ray, bloods and scan, focus on lungs. Takes about 2 hours. If she's right, I suppose the results will determine what happens next.

I think the xray and scan are probably right

There was one on the radio suggesting they'd be wanting to check oxygen sats and take blood - given that District Nurses coming in once a week to my FIL could do that I think it's safe to say his Dr has been doing that when needed over the last 10 days

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 22:06

And Calderwood has resigned. But that's another thread.

@FlamingoAndJohn I think that was my fave comment on MN so far.

Ipadipod · 05/04/2020 22:07

I think he’s more seriously ill than they’re letting on . Bloods can be taken at Downing Street, as can sats, he would also probably be able to have a portable oxygen tank there. He would need to attend hospital for a chest X-ray, which takes about 5 minutes and the image could be seen and reported on straight away and if it was ok he could return home.

flatpack1 · 05/04/2020 22:07

Its not fickle at all

I think the mans a twat but i dont want him to die...I don’t want anyone to die

This

Eireni · 05/04/2020 22:08

It is hateful when it comes from a position of bitter jealousy.
This really isn’t the place or time but thanks, that’s the first time I’ve laughed all day (spent most of it in tears) at the suggestion that MNers speculating on choice of medical care are jealous of BoJo. Thanks Smile.

Anyway. Bloods and x-rays could probably have been done at Downing St (vets do x-rays on horses almost literally in the field all the time). To be taken in to hospital suggests to me that he might need a higher level of investigation/care/monitoring, sadly.

CalmerViolet · 05/04/2020 22:08

didn't realise that a prolonged fever = hospital admission

It doesn’t. My DH had a temperature of 39+ for 12 days, crippling muscle aches, headache drenching sweats, shivering chills, no sense of taste or smell.

Didn’t warrant more than ‘take paracetamol’. This is what is known as ‘mild illness’.

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 22:09

I suppose though, he initially thought it was mild, and so carried on, instead of going straight to bed?

I've got mixed feelings about Calderwood - if she was competent at her job it's a pity, but at the same time, she set a very poor example. At least that is the honourable thing to do.

vera99 · 05/04/2020 22:10

I hope he gets EU doctors or nurses who remind him how much they give to the UK and how his heartless policies have affected them. Whilst professionally dealing with him to get him better and their services at great risk to themselves in these dark times aren't some sort of Eton joke plated to the gallery.

Meredithgrey1 · 05/04/2020 22:10

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off. Talk about fickle!

I can be critical of someone’s policies, while also hoping they fully recover from a serious illness. That doesn’t make me fickle, it’s just general human decency. It’s the people not wishing him well you should be criticising.

Dongdingdong · 05/04/2020 22:10

Why would you admit him at 9pm on a Sunday night?

Why is admission on a Sunday night more significant than at any other time?

Last time we saw him I thought he looked very unwell. Younger and more boyish in a vulnerable way.

Good description - that’s exactly how he looked.

Innitogether · 05/04/2020 22:10

Me praying Boris Johnson gets better soon so he can get back to leading the country is probably the biggest curveball 2020 could send me.

@catsandlavender, me too! I’m really quite Confused, even thinking of going to online mass tomorrow morning. I think it’s because we need to feel that someone is leading us, especially in a crisis. I think it’s why so many people actually appreciated the Queen’s address today even though they aren’t fans of the rf.

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 22:11

I thought he was a twat, but think he has done well over this awful time. I've warmed to him and admired the way he's handled this.
I hope he recovers. I hope everyone recovers.
It's a horrible time.

He isn't at a private hospital. Most of them are now only taking nhs cases anyway in London at least. They have suspended their private work.

It's been upsetting to see mnetters struggle with severe illness and likely pneumonia for weeks at home, unable to be access hospital care. I imagine that as pp siad, the threshold for the prime minister to be admitted is much lower. But who knows what is really going on.

I hope he will be ok. Separately really hoping Raab has limited time at the helm, he is not good.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/04/2020 22:13

They’ll know the results for this already. It wont take 2 hours to get his results back and it sounds like he’d already been in hospital a couple of hours before they announced it. So he’s poorly enough either by obs or investigation results to need to stay.

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 22:14

I suppose though, he initially thought it was mild, and so carried on, instead of going straight to bed?

That is how it's supposed to go though, reading accounts from survivors. You have symptoms, they start to fade and you feel a bit better, then pneumonia sneaks up on some people - like a second strike.

GatoradeMeBitch · 05/04/2020 22:14

I’m hoping for the best for him and for the baby.

There's a rather glaring omission there...

pocketem · 05/04/2020 22:14

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off

No, I'll keep pointing out that under his original psychopathic herd immunity plan, at least 60% of the country would have gotten infected, with a 1% mortality rate, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. This was felt to be preferable to causing damage to businesses. Only when they were shamed out of it did they belatedly change track. My sympathies are with the innocent NHS workers without PPE who have lost their lives, not with the people who orchestrated the whole thing

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 05/04/2020 22:15

Agree that he is way more ill than they are making out.

Even the BBC don't believe what downing st is saying, they are saying 'taken into hospital for what has been described as a precaution'
rather than 'taken into hospital as a precuation'

...'what has been described as' = 'we're all being bullshitted'

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 22:16

I think it’s why so many people actually appreciated the Queen’s address today even though they aren’t fans of the rf.

I think he must have been quite ill for a while. The timing of her speech is uncanny. An hour before he was admitted? Why now too?

TheCatBar · 05/04/2020 22:17

Well said pocketem

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 05/04/2020 22:17

He has looked awful and was obviously getting worse rather than better. I think he must be very ill to have been admitted. I hope he gets better soon.

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 05/04/2020 22:17

I hope he gets better soon, I genuinely do.

And, yes, I still despise him as a politician - that doesn't mean I'm entirely devoid of empathy for my fellow human beings.
