Dominic Raab looks like he's been in tears

Well he’d better pull himself together and man up because the buck stops with him now.

I hope he is ok and it is just precautionary.

DarnedSocks · 06/04/2020 21:22

I think people are saying they didn't like him politically because they don't want accusations of being hypocrites. Many of us have posted criticisms, for example his handling of the pandemic (although I've revised my opinion slightly) but also wish him well. They're also making the point that you don't have to agree with someone politically, or even like them, to wish them a good recovery. Some posters have been rather unpleasant in wishing him ill. I agree it shouldn't be about politics at this moment.

Tonyaster · 06/04/2020 21:22

howwillthispanout bully for you. You sound unhinged.

vanillandhoney · 06/04/2020 21:23

Yeah, how dare he be upset and frightened?

Bloody hell. Some people have had a real empathy bypass on here.

titchy · 06/04/2020 21:23

Where you watching Raab?

TiddyTid · 06/04/2020 21:23

I feel sick. Our Prime Minister. His family 😢. This country's leader. This is seriously bad.

Tigger001 · 06/04/2020 21:23

I do not like what Boris johnson stands for nor do I think he has handled this situation well.

I would never wish him any harm and truly hope he comes out of this ok. My thoughts are also with his pregnant girlfriend , this must be a terrible time for her.

NotJustACigar · 06/04/2020 21:23

Why do people feel the need to police whether or not people are allowed to say they didn't vote for him, etc.? People should be permitted to be calm and rational about this and not have to be overcome with emotion. That includes being able to mention politics. I do feel very bad for him and his family but I feel worse for the families of the care workers, nurses, and others who have actually died today. I wish him the best on the same way I do every patient who is suffering from this horrible virus.

And yes this is bad for the country but only if people overreact and panic. Otherwise if god forbid he doesn't make it there will be a deputy in place until a successor can be found. I'm sure this can be done in an orderly manner. Hopefully it won't come to that but again it wouldn't be a reason to panic.

God yes how will

Neil Ferguson forced Johnson's hand on the Sunday night before bojo announced lockdown. He was going to sit in an ivory tower and gamble with people's lives.

Struggling to sympathise as a result.

NowSissyThatWalk · 06/04/2020 21:27

I feel genuinely shocked at this. I feel like we're living in a disaster movie. His poor family.
@Smilethoyourheartisbreaking
I thought the exact same thing. God this is shit.

moita · 06/04/2020 21:27

Absolutely terrifying. His poor partner and family. I hope he recovers from this.

powershowerforanhour · 06/04/2020 21:28

*He’s in good spirits” sounds to me like “he’s fucking sick but hopefully he won’t be tubed today

Hopefully not. The survival rates for people tubed in the first 24 hours after admission are not great*

True though I assume these stats include people who were already so dreadfully ill on arrival eg on the verge of cardiac arrest that they got intubated immediately on arrival and all the bells and whistles but died 20 minutes later; plus all the people with really severe underlying conditions and the very, very old. So even if he got to the point of needing ventilated tonight he might have a better chance than the raw figure.

PerkingFaintly · 06/04/2020 21:28

toryandproud: why do people feel the need to say "I hate the guy / the Tories, but..."

Because a lot of recent politics has been deliberately divisive and encouraged people to treat those they disagree with as The Enemy. So it's important to many people to demonstrate that they treat humans as humans despite fundamental political differences, and don't reserve their good wishes for "their team."

And in my case, I'd add that my good wishes for Johnson are for him as a human being. I wouldn't want any one to confuse that with support for his behaviour or actions (as some media are wont to do).

pocketem · 06/04/2020 21:28

I hope he is ok and it is just precautionary.

People are never taken to ICU just as a precaution. There are critical care outreach teams that provide intensive support to normal ward patients. If this is not enough to keep them going and they need transfer to ICU then it is a bad sign.

Only got about a 50-50 chance of making it now. So sad

As posters have already done

TiddyTid · 06/04/2020 21:32

I voted for Boris. If Corbyn was in ICU I would never say "but" or "I don't like him but", "I hated his policies but" I would be mortified him and his family were in the position - politics are nothing to do with feeling sympathy, empathy and worry for a fellow human.

Jesus wept.
