LauraK is saying on BBC News that he was being taken to hospital on the advice of his doctors at almost the exact moment the Queen was speaking to the nation.

JemimaTab · 05/04/2020 22:34

I hope he’s OK. I’m not sure it sounds like a routine admission, if he was brought in on Sunday evening (rather than waiting til Monday).

Rocketmam · 05/04/2020 22:35

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off.

I disagree fiercely with some of Boris Johnson's views and actions. That doesn't mean that I don't wish him well as a fellow human.

I hate the polarisation these days that says we must be in camps and absolutely hate anyone we even mildly disagree with on one thing.

In a fairytale world I would love for Boris to get better quickly and have a 'Scrooge' type moment where he realises the true value of the NHS.

The pessimist in me says that they are massively downplaying this and I hope I am wrong.

Madhairday · 05/04/2020 22:35

I hope he's ok. I don't think they'd have taken him in or announced that if he wasn't pretty ill :(

kingofkings · 05/04/2020 22:35

It seems likely he is having high fevers plus or minus breathlessness and low oxygen sats.
He'll have oxygen levels and other parameters checked. blood tests , chest x ray +- CT chest, oxygen if needed and whatever else such as respiratory support

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 05/04/2020 22:35

There’s a difference between not liking someone and wishing them dead Hmm

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 05/04/2020 22:36

I wonder if he’s fone NHS or Bupa

VaukaPinvhin · 05/04/2020 22:37

My friend is on day 11 since she became ill. She is a retired hospital consultant and her DH a retired ICU consultant. The evening on day 9 she said she had written letters to her family ‘just in case’, as she was getting worse. Thank god she felt a bit easier the next day and today also a bit improved . She is so calm and unphased by anything. As is her DH. If she felt scared enough to be writing notes to her family it must have got suddenly much worse for her to feel the need to do that . It sounds like it can get very bad very quickly around the 7 - 9 day point.

I really hope the PM will be ok. He must be bloody sick to need admitting. As PPs have said, a lot can be done by way of testing etc at Downing Street. Jesus this fucking virus.

JoeExotic · 05/04/2020 22:37

NHS

Ostanovka · 05/04/2020 22:37

This is why there was all the debate about the best timing for the Queen's speech. The country needed to feel someone is in charge, when the news broke about Boris. There's no way he's only just been admitted.

Doggybiccys · 05/04/2020 22:37

I agree he is v ill rather than having tests for all the reasons previously mentioned. If he wasn’t at risk of crashing and needing ventilatory support in a hurry, they would have taken the medics to him. The speed of sudden deterioration and respiratory arrest quickly followed by cardiac arrest is the concern - patients have became unwell with difficulty breathing in our hospital and died before the crash team could make it to the ward - less than 5 minutes in the most extreme case. IMHO he’s in as they think he may need resuscitated and/or ventilated at some point.

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 22:37

Now we'll get all the well wishers hoping he gets better, after spending the last week slagging him off.

Don’t you understand the difference between politics and human decency? Hmm

coconuttelegraph · 05/04/2020 22:38

The timing pmof her speech is uncanny. An hour before he was admitted

Skynews are reporting that he was admitted in the early evening, we were told about it around 9, he'd obviously been there some hours at that time

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 22:38

I assume the timing of the Queen's speech is just coincidence, because that's been planned for a few days. I would imagine that BJ took a sudden turn for the worse.

Alsohuman · 05/04/2020 22:39

I wonder if he’s fone NHS or Bupa

All the private beds have been passed to the NHS, haven’t they?

loveliesbleeding1 · 05/04/2020 22:39

Why do people with absolutely nothing worth saying (or listening too) trot out “karma’s a bitch”

coconuttelegraph · 05/04/2020 22:40

I wonder if he’s fone NHS or Bupa

All the news outlets are saying NHS, I can't believe that's not true

loveliesbleeding1 · 05/04/2020 22:40

I hope the PM, his Partner and their unborn baby all come through this.

CormoranStrike · 05/04/2020 22:40

The tests will be to ascertain if he requires ventilation, perhaps.

He is probably really quite poorly at the moment.

I wish him well.

Fallsballs · 05/04/2020 22:41

Lovliesbleeding - It was obviously worth saying or she wouldn’t have said it ?

Graphista · 05/04/2020 22:42

@JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate

While the tests could technically be done at home

1 I suspect they're downplaying and he's more seriously ill and needs to be on oxygen if not a ventilator and closely monitored

2 tests undertaken in a more controlled environment tend to be more accurate plus depending on results if action is needed best he's already in hospital

I'm no fan but nobody deserves this, wishing him a speedy recovery and his loved ones peace of mind soon.

TiddyTid · 05/04/2020 22:43

Get well soon Boris.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 05/04/2020 22:43

I cannot get over some of the people on this thread. If you've nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all.

I believe he is worse than they're letting on as the last place anyone wants to be is a hospital.
They'll be doing chest x-ray and going from there.
People deteriorate really quickly with this.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 05/04/2020 22:43

Not a fan of Boris or the Tories

but wouldn't wish the virus on anyone - hopefully he will recover soon

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 22:44

I hate the polarisation these days that says we must be in camps and absolutely hate anyone we even mildly disagree with on one thing.

V well said @Rocketmam
