No chance

Pishposhpashy · 04/04/2020 22:56

But how are those people going to manage for income? The govt is not going to fund them until a vaccine is found.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/04/2020 22:56

No way

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 22:57

borage13 exactly why people need to play by the rules now. Bending them at this stage literally prolongs the length of time this goes on for. Ultimately until there is a vaccine we are going to be in and out of lockdown.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 22:57

In a week our numbers will be high. The government is better at reacting to what is happening presently than will happen so I doubt it.

Also the amount of people who say when lock down is over they’ll do x y z including visiting parents makes me think they’ll have to be clear about risk (unless it’s part of their model, but doubt it).

southeastdweller · 04/04/2020 22:58

But how are those people going to manage for income? The govt is not going to fund them until a vaccine is found.

Of course they won’t, it’s not in the government’s interest to have a prolonged lockdown which is why there won’t ever be one of more than three months.

bananaskinsnomnom · 04/04/2020 22:58

No way. It won’t be till at least May

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 22:58

Pish the government will have no choice but to fund them.

The alternative is all out anarchy and deaths on a scale unimaginable through deprivation and starvation.

OhTheRoses · 04/04/2020 22:59

27th April or 4th May. A very gradual return thereafter.

QueenTaTe · 04/04/2020 22:59

Spain has just put the country in lockdown another 2 weeks, they're much stricter and we're behind them 2 weeks.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 04/04/2020 22:59

I don't think we'll be out of lockdown, no.
I can't see for example the schools going back for a while (got a text message off school and links to learning websites etc for work so doesn't look like going back after Easter.)
With the exams being cancelled, can't see it realistically being until September.
I do think if people can sodding well stay at home for a couple of months we might be able to ease slightly by June.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 23:00

If we go back to where we were with shops etc open hopefully it will be with social distancing in place and wfh, and keep school off until Sept (I know people are keener re school).

cushioncovers · 04/04/2020 23:01

They've asked the elderly and vulnerable to stay inside for 12 weeks. And didn't Wuhan stay in lockdown for 12 weeks or there abouts? I'm guessing 12 is the magic number before we are back to moving around freely. But even then I wonder if mass gathering will still be off limits.

How2Help · 04/04/2020 23:01

More chance of martians landing. There's not a hope in hell's chance of this only lasting another week.

Given 2020 so far I’m not ruling out martians appearing.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 23:01

What is the alternative here though? Ok lockdown is lifted in 3 months time, The infections shoot back up within weeks and we are back inside all because people can not stand not socialising or having a good time. Until there is a proven vaccine or herd immunity if such a thing works with this virus then unfortunately there is no quick fix. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

MelbaToast · 04/04/2020 23:02

I reckon end of June earliest. It took China 3 months.

Apirateslifeforme · 04/04/2020 23:02

Lol. I'd bet my car that were going to be stuck in until mid may, at the earliest.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 23:02

Wettham I think we’ll just have another wave because yes people will socialise.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 23:03

And China still has big problems

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 23:05

Marsha another wave is guaranteed, I believe they are trying to figure out a way to manipulate it so it comes when they want it to, so they are able to deal with it effectively.

GirlCalledJames · 04/04/2020 23:05

Based on how long it took to take real measures I wouldn’t be surprised if the government lift it before they should or leave it in place without enforcing it.

justasking111 · 04/04/2020 23:06

Friend in China, still seriously lack of freedom of movement and he is in an area which was not hit badly.

My GP friend does not say much but let slip her grey hair will not matter soon because she will be covered up. Which makes me wonder if the GPs are going to be put on the front line.

Sapphiresunrise · 04/04/2020 23:06

There is apparently social unrest in Southern Italy now.
We cannot stay in lockdown like this until June-September, the cure will be far worse than the disease.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 23:07

Girl that is a big concern. Hopefully they are better at listening to real numbers rather than projected ones.

Wettham yes agree

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 23:07

Girl I think peer pressure from other countries will now dictate how we act going forward. It’s going to be a case of follow the leader, whoever has the higher infection numbers will be the benchmark to work against. If we are to overcome this as a planet then we will all have to work together like never before.
