Are people still ordering takeaway?

Just wondering how many of you are still ordering takeaways? DP really fancies a pizza tonight but I'm a bit weary of ordering just in case.

Am I worrying over nothing? Sorry, I know it's a first world problem.

I wouldn’t - tons of pictures of Dominos staff without gloves, crammed into the kitchens - zero hours contracts so they feel they have to go in regardless of feeling unwell, are you sure nobody is coughing on the boxes, the food...no thanks!

There is definitely an undercurrent of 'ugh, horrid minimum wage workers with their questionable personal hygiene' on this thread

This is bollocks, sorry but it is. The people preparing takeaways are the same people that prepare the food I eat in the restaurants I would order a takeaway from.

Nothing to do with who prepared it and all about COVID for many on this thread. I don’t want to deal with the risk of the virus on the packaging my dinner is in. Not a risk I need to take.

From the bbc

A study published last month suggests the virus survives longest on plastic and stainless steel surfaces - up to two to three days - and can live for up to 24 hours on cardboard. However, over that time the virus is likely to become less powerful.

I don’t need the additional risk of someone shedding the virus on a plastic takeaway container when I have got plenty of food and plenty of time to cook it in the evenings.

Each to their own but don’t make sweeping assumptions.

ACHOO
“woopsy they will be ok, I mean I’m sure they will wipe it down, it’s not as if I’ve touched 30 doorbells tonight, gates and handles or anything”
DING DONG
“Your dominos is at the door, medium warm with my sneeze on the box just like your ordered, ENJOY”

... ew, ew, ew I just can’t 😷

Betty1233 · 04/04/2020 08:49

I probably will tonight

cactus2020 · 04/04/2020 08:52

Yes we are. And I put tip in an envelope outside for them. Agree minimal risk and probably safer than supermarket shopping.

PineappleDanish · 04/04/2020 08:53

I don't think it's "ewww horrid minimum wage people with their germs".

People on MN have always been weird about eating food. Just look at any thread about bake sales or people bringing into the office and there are about a third of posters saying "Oh I don't eat anything homemade, you don't know how clean the kitchen is, not a risk I'm prepared to take blah blah blah".

Lots of people are exceedingly weird about germs and food. Now that the risk has moved from the "risk" of getting food poisoning from Cheryl in accounts fairy cakes to the "risk" of getting Covid19 from your chicken tikka masala, the idea of "eww germs" has become even more widespread.

Personally I think the risk is so teeny tiny that i'm prepared to take that risk for the benefit of not having to cook, and getting a delicious chicken saag, saffron rice and naan bread delivered to the door.

Oh my goodness that is not nice to say takeaway staff are on minimum wage and that is why people are not ordering takeouts

I’m sure in normal circumstances must of Mumsnet enjoy a bake sale and a takeaway, everyone can share opinions wether they choose to or not everybody has their own safety measures and that’s ok, #bekind and enjoy the sunshine Mumsnet!

“Your dominos is at the door, medium warm with my sneeze on the box just like your ordered, ENJOY”

Dominos deliver their pizzas in insulated bags and only remove them when handing it over so theres no chance of them sneezing on the box Wink

Yes, this and competitive hygiene. It's a wonder these people have any immune systems at all!

Sonichu · 04/04/2020 12:34

"Oh my goodness that is not nice to say takeaway staff are on minimum wage and that is why people are not ordering takeouts"

...is that really what you think the point of that post was?

Sonichu · 04/04/2020 12:36

"Dominos deliver their pizzas in insulated bags and only remove them when handing it over so theres no chance of them sneezing on the box"

They might have opened the box and licked the pizza in the 5 seconds it takes to get from car to the door though!!!

organisedmother · 04/04/2020 14:18

No need to mention wage at all nothing to do with the post, it’s Saturday enjoy your takeouts or your cooked meals Wine

whitesoxx · 04/04/2020 14:42

No takeaways here

And I'd rather know if I was making the wary/weary mistake too.

Same with loose/lose

Loose = baggy
Lose = opposite to win

HTH

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/04/2020 20:07

I’m waiting for mine now - I’m seriously craving a chicken korma and garlic rice!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 04/04/2020 20:11

I have a takeaway pizza downstairs waiting for me, if DS ever decides to go to sleep... Hmm

The level of hysteria over food touched by another human hand (which is actually all food, FFS) on MN never ceases to amaze me. I have every sympathy with the extremely vulnerable who feel they need to take every precaution, but I do think this is making a lot of deeply irrational people think that they're justified in their total paranoia.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/04/2020 20:13

If I ever thought they were going to cough and sneeze over my food I wouldn’t be ordering in the first place!

coffeeforone · 04/04/2020 22:48

Yes. More than usual to help local businesses.
