Are people still ordering takeaway?

Just wondering how many of you are still ordering takeaways? DP really fancies a pizza tonight but I'm a bit weary of ordering just in case.

Am I worrying over nothing? Sorry, I know it's a first world problem.

We had donimos delivered to our work work today

Wehttam · 03/04/2020 16:42

I know some are saying they don’t mind but I just can’t at the moment. 1) what if food is contaminated 2) what if the packaging is contaminated 3) what if the delivery driver is contaminated? Too many uncontrollable variables, I just couldn’t sorry 😐

blossombabies · 03/04/2020 16:43

we haven't had take away in ages .. possibly two months? even before the lockdown and when we still had a handful of cases we stopped ..wether there is risk or not i don't know but it's not something i can't live without that's for sure

OneHanded · 03/04/2020 16:43

We went and got a mother’s day kebab 😅 if we had decent options where I live or delivery I’d use it

Pipandmum · 03/04/2020 16:43

Yes a local italian restaurant is trying to keep ticking over by doing takeaways. It was my birthday this week and we ordered a lovely meal. They had a good routine for collection so you are never in direct contact.
We had Domino's a couple weeks ago. They put the boxes down, ring the bell and after you acknowledge them drive off. Bring the boxes in wearing rubber gloves remove food then throw out the packaging.

Parker231 · 03/04/2020 16:44

We’re having them each week, sometimes a couple of times a week. We’re missing going out for meals and I hate cooking.

twinkle2306 · 03/04/2020 16:45

No - sweat yesterday there was an interview on BBC saying it can be present on food 🤷🏼‍♀️ they had previously said their wasn't an issue?

twinkle2306 · 03/04/2020 16:46

*there

I didn't know any were still open. Mind you, there aren't any near us and I haven't been out much lately.

I thought that they would have to shut as they aren't exactly essential.

FromEden · 03/04/2020 16:51

Pretty sure food is essential

ZaZathecat · 03/04/2020 16:53

We had a Chinese delivered the other day but it was more trouble than it was worth: disposing of all packaging and washing hands then reheating each item in the microwave for 2 minutes each. Won't bother any more.

Rocketmam · 03/04/2020 16:55

If the food is contaminated after cooking, which is not impossible, then wearing gloves/delivery driver stepping back/disposing of packaging and washing your hands is completely pointless!

MsTSwift · 03/04/2020 16:57

I don’t care and will take the abuse. I can’t bear the weary / wary thing it grinds my gears.

Bubblysqueak · 03/04/2020 17:00

Yep just ordered one, one of the few silver linings of this virus is takeaways have finally realised our village exists and have started delivering to us !!

Parker231 · 03/04/2020 17:05

Lots of restaurants near us are keeping their business going by turning into a delivery food service.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/04/2020 17:08

I’m about to order a Chinese. I’ve spent the whole week in an office that normally has 150 people and there are 3 of us. Plus every customer has shouted at me as to why I cant fast track their payment (there’s thousands in front of each one that asks). They all also think I’m the Head of HMRC and can bend the rules.....not on 18K I’m not mate.
So Crispy duck, sweet and sour chicken balls and Special fried rice it is.

Itallgoingpetetong · 03/04/2020 17:11

No. I wouldn’t.
How many people in the kitchen handling the food? How do you know everyone they live with isn’t a carrier? added to how many people handling the food to deliver the ingredients, chop & prep, who handled the containers in the factory, to deliver to the cash & carry, to stock the shelves, to put it through the check out, to dish it up?
The delivery driver in & out of the car. He may be wearing gloves but if he is wearing gloves while driving then who else has driven the car so touched the steering wheel, gear stick, handbreak & where has the other driver been & who have they been in contact with?

Nope.

PhoneLock · 03/04/2020 17:15

Food is. Somebody else cooking it isn't.

There aren't any takaways around here. Nobody has starved to death.

TheVanguardSix · 03/04/2020 17:17

I was so tempted to last night, but no. I am just too worried about the people preparing it. You just don't know, do you? The delivery guys are the least of my worries. It's not worth it. And Lord knows, I'd love to just take a breather. I feel like a short order cook these days.

QuayboardWarrior · 03/04/2020 17:18

From the local restaurant who's insisting customers stay inside while they deliver, wearing new gloves and masks, yes I do.

From the only other open takeaway who's delivery driver has his mates in the car, doesn't wash his hands (at all, never mind wearing gloves or a mask!) No. I'm not. He is also not trying to stay socially distanced at all. No end of mates and family popping into his house. I'm not ordering from there at all. I couldn't trust that he wasn't bringing Coronavirus straight to my door.

BeyondMyWits · 03/04/2020 17:35

Do you all worry the same about the pharmacy delivering medication.

The pills in that brown bottle were delivered in a tote box from a warehouse by a driver, put away by an assistant, measured out and put in a bottle by a dispenser, checked by a pharmacist, sealed into bags and put into a delivery box by whoever and then delivered by a driver.

The staff at that pharmacy work in the viral soup of the everyday, real world.

Everything gets touched by others, we are not hermetically sealed beings. Minimize risks as you see fit, but there is no more risk from buying takeaway food than buying made-up prescriptions, or fresh bread, or fruit, or vegetables, or a newspaper, etc etc.

Rocketmam · 03/04/2020 17:39

We order meds a few days before the current ones run out. So we leave them untouched for five days, pretty sure they are as safe as can be by then. Obviously, we bleach the packets etc.

Pishposhpashy · 03/04/2020 17:40

Obviously, we bleach the packets etc.

Confused
Rocketmam · 03/04/2020 17:48

Not sure why the face @Pishposhpashy.

We are a shielded house, I consider ig our responsibility to take every precaution we can.

This includes spraying everything that comes in to the house with a bleach/water solution. If this isn't possible (letters etc.) it is bagged and left in the shed for at least five days.
