Are people still ordering takeaway?

Just wondering how many of you are still ordering takeaways? DP really fancies a pizza tonight but I'm a bit weary of ordering just in case.

Am I worrying over nothing? Sorry, I know it's a first world problem.

OP posts:

Yes sunday evenings is my takeaway night Smile

bengalcat · 03/04/2020 15:01

If I wanted a takeaway then I wouldn't hesitate to order one .

Millicent10 · 03/04/2020 15:03

If you can afford it, go for it one. One of the few treats that is not restricted.

SnickettyLemon · 03/04/2020 15:07

If you are worried about the risk of cross contamination , ensure that you reheat the meal . Decant any take away meals into clean receptacles and dispose of original packaging. Wash hands.

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 15:09

I wouldn’t myself. I’m not that fond of people handling my food at the best of times, let alone now. It only takes one person carrying the virus to transfer it to the food or box... I just couldn’t enjoy it

If you do, tip the pizza onto a chopping board/plates & wash your hands after handling the box & before eating.

Personally I’d rather make or buy one & cook it at home. Far safer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Scruffyoak · 03/04/2020 15:11

I've had take away a few times. Nice treat

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 03/04/2020 15:11

We're still getting them - it's a good way of supporting local businesses. We have some great restaurants nearby on deliveroo and I'd hate for any of them to close down because of the crisis!

HairyFloppins · 03/04/2020 15:12

Yes we had papa johns last night. I handle the boxes with gloves and reheat the food to kill any bugs on it

colouringinpro · 03/04/2020 15:12

Yep we've had one a week as a treat. We've really enjoyed it. I think there is a very small risk but have decided for us the benefits outweigh the risk.

batvixen123 · 03/04/2020 15:13

We've been ordering takeout from a couple of our local restaurants we want to support while they can't open. Otherwise they won't survive the lockdown at all.

WhatKatyDidNot · 03/04/2020 15:15

Same here. I'd be gutted if the village curry house went bust due to this so am ordering once a week.

If you're feeling paranoid, OP, just wash hands after handling the packaging and after eating. Properly. Like the video. And don't serve in the packaging or otherwise leave the packaging lying around.

Babyg1995 · 03/04/2020 15:15

No we aren't ordering at the moment ☹️ I could really go one though.

Wary. Sorry there was a thread on it.
Weary - tired
Wary - suspicious and uncertain

Jog on then!

Iamclearlyamug · 03/04/2020 15:21

Damn right - dominos is one of life's only pleasures right now. Give me a large ranch bbq with extra garlic and herb dip please 😍😍👌

H1978 · 03/04/2020 15:22

We are thinking about getting one tomorrow,so I can have a break from cooking, although I’m still a bit apprehensive about how safe it is Confused

PertEllaTitsahoy · 03/04/2020 15:24

Yes. Theres a great local burger/pizza/chicken place near us, I would be devastated if they went out of business because of this. We're doing our best to help them stay open Grin

pocketem · 03/04/2020 15:25

Hard to tell which ones are still open. Many of them still have their websites up as if nothing has happened but the takeaway has been closed for over a week. Suppose you could use Just Eat or something like that

TheOrigBrave · 03/04/2020 15:26

We have had 2 in the last week or so, one ordered from the village pub who has launched a really successful local delivery service. Very happy to support them.

The other was Dominoes. All done online.

They were to celebrate the birthdays of both my sons last week.

Seems less risky than going to the supermarket.

CoronaIsComing · 03/04/2020 15:26

Yes we’ll be getting a weekly one for as long as the takeaways are open to support them. Takeaways are busier than ever right now so many others are doing the same.
As someone else has said, slide the pizza onto a plate and dispose of the boxes then wash your hands and enjoy.

Staywithmemyblood · 03/04/2020 15:27

Yes, we had Indian last night. Ordered online and contactless delivery. DH and DD were a bit wary, but I'm fed up cooking and neither of them wanted to either. Glad we did though - it tasted soooo good!

GreyGardens88 · 03/04/2020 15:28

It's impossible to protect yourself 100%, takeaway is very low risk and you need one or two bright spots during this time

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/04/2020 15:29

I can’t see why the risk would be any greater than for any other food. People are still working in factories manufacturing our food and drink, working in slaughterhouses and butcher shops, milking cows and bottling milk, collecting eggs, packaging fruit and veg etc. Any one of them could potentially have Coronavirus but be working with our food.

That said, there are no doubt some wazzocks out there soaking their meat in dilute Milton before they cook it and wiping their eggs down with wet wipes.

TheReelSlimShady · 03/04/2020 15:30

I was going to be good and not have takeaway this week but now this thread is making me hungry for Indian...

girlicorne · 03/04/2020 15:30

We had dominos last night ordered on line and they left it at the door just knocked to say it was here. I think it’s pretty low risk especially from a well known reputable company??

sHREDDIES19 · 03/04/2020 15:30

Pretty sure that thorough cooking will kill the virus anyway so on the off-chance the chef has the virus, it's very unlikely transmission will occur this way.
