It's bloody awful I don't know what possessed me to do this at all. It was already a small toilet now it feels like the walls are closing in, in there. It's making me feel claustrophobic 😭😂

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 15:06

Blue is the worst colour to paint almost any room ginger

DH really, really wanted a blue living room - so I finally crumbled and let him paint it. It was horrible - even he agreed! I've had very pale blue bedrooms before, and they were lovely, but this was a strong blue. Nothing went with it. It was as depressing as hell.

One of the joys of the lockdown was that the sage green paint I'd bought to cover the horror actually got applied to the walls. it is now so restful and pleasant, and looks really fresh.

DianneWhatcock · 14/04/2020 15:14

@Noooblerooble sorry you're having a bad day. Sending unmumsnetty hugs x

DianneWhatcock · 14/04/2020 15:15

@Alsohuman that's great news

@gingerbreadslice lol at the smurf prison! I've recently done one blue wall in my main bathroom (the rest are white) and I'm not sure about it either 😩

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 15:16

@SchadenfreudePersonified sage green is lovely!

Pale blue is lovely though. Our kitchen is a light sky blue called Dulux Mineral Mist. Ds bedroom used to be a greeny blue which was dark and grim, even though it was ‘nice’ F&B paint.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.elle.com/uk/life-and-culture/gmp31658888/coronavirus-covid-19-good-news/

Haven't had time to read through this yet but looks lovely (the first 3 made me feel emotional!)

Just watching a Wallace and Gromit movie with DD snuggled up on sofa and eating the cookies we made yesterday!

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 16:52

@SchadenfreudePersonified Ha this is my point it doesn't suit anything! I too picked a nice sage green colour, but no my DP decided this would be nicer as it's called "summer blue" who doesn't like a summer sky?. In the toilet? A summer sky in the toilet???. I'm still confused and slightly enraged I've even painted it. I can only blame myself here

@DianneWhatcock I think we should just leave blue paint behind us in the lockdown and just agree to never use it again for anything. Grin

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 16:53

@Bunnyflop I found that paint a little bit of a rip off I'm still none the wiser on why it costs a small mortgage for a tin Shock

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 16:59

Mineral Mist is the colour I have in the little bedroom Bunnyflop! That is the blue I like - and because it is so pale, it looks lovely wiht almost totally white bedding etc

It's a beautiful colour - the colour of heaven (IMHO Grin). Very pale and pretty and delicate. The blue Mr Schaden chose for the living room was dire - actually "Smurf Blue" would just about describe it. It's a really oppressive colour - I can't think of any other way to describe it. We don't live in a large house, and it just felt though the walls were closing in. And I swear it hurt my eyes.

DS and DIL have a teal blue on one wall - that looks very beautiful, but it's only on one wall (others are pale grey) and looks very striking. On all four walls (like ours was) it would be dreadful in a small room. What was worse was there was a lot of blue left over and Mr S used it up to paint both the porch and the kitchen. Theporch has been repainted, thank Christ - the kitchen is next. However he's just spent five days (FIVE DAYS) fannying on, tidying his big shed and doesn't feel up to a painting job just yet. I may do it myself. Probably just white.

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 16:59

@gingerbreadslice it’s shit. Painting with it is so hard, it’s so gloopy! Never again!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 17:04

Ha this is my point it doesn't suit anything!

It doesn't does it?

NOTHING goes with it - and somehow nothing contrasts appropriately with it either - not even white!

He has form for this. He's a Sunderland supporter, and once when I was away for a week, in my absence he painted our bedroom bright red! ("But it's a sexy colour" - Yes - for BORDELLO! Angry)

It was dire!

I felt like I was sleeping in a blood clot!

It took about eight coats of pale grey to cover it. It was a bastard of a colour.

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 17:29

Oi guys I’ll have you know that my kitchen colour is very nice thank you! And goes very well with my cream kitchen cupboard doors! 😭 Grin

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 17:29

But yeah there’s no excusing red.

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 17:30

@SchadenfreudePersonified Oh my god you win 😂😂😂😂😂😂Grin I know a lady who's husband couldn't get terracotta paint so used bright orange. She came home in tears when she saw it and said she felt like she was living in a calypso lolly. I think it was early 2000s when that was a big colour choice for front rooms

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 17:32

@Bunnyflop I bet it does surely someone has to manage to get blue to look nice??? Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 19:27

Oi guys I’ll have you know that my kitchen colour is very nice thank you! And goes very well with my cream kitchen cupboard doors!

I agree that Mineral Mist is beautiful. It's our little bedroom colour. It is NOTHING like the fucking awful blue he picked for the living room.

It is delicate and beautiful.

Alsohuman · 14/04/2020 19:31

Our snug is red, it feels really cosy but I agree, it’s not for everyone. And yes, F&B paint is complete shit. You can get all the colours mixed by Dulux.

That link is so cheering @Arcadia, I’ve seen some of those stories before but it’s lovely seeing them all in one place.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 19:51

There's red and red Alsohuman

DH's choice was best described as "Harlot Scarlet".

On all three unwardrobed walls.

As homage to the Sunderland Black Cats.

The sort of red on the strips below.

Blerg · 14/04/2020 20:09

Hi everyone,

That’s great news @Alsohuman

A nice story about a 99 year old raising £3m for the NHS by doing laps of his garden www.theguardian.com/society/2020/apr/14/war-veteran-99-raises-2m-for-nhs-by-walking-lengths-of-back-garden

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/04/2020 20:58

Isn't he bloody amazing, Blerg.

DH was reading it out to me earlier this afternoon.

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 21:42

So if the toilet hasn't cause me enough issues today one of the kids has flushed a burger down it and now it's blocked up and not budging. 😩

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 21:59

@SchadenfreudePersonified yes you can still buy it, I got a tin to touch up with it recently.

@gingerbreadslice when I read that I thought burger was some kind of poo term that I wasn’t aware of and then realised that you actually meant a burger.

gingerbreadslice · 14/04/2020 22:31

@Bunnyflop It's defo a real one I know my cooking isn't that great but come on.. Really down the toilet... I don't know what to use to fish it out I've tried a few things but it's firmly lodged maybe it'll dissolve by morning or shrink Confused

Bunnyflop · 14/04/2020 22:37

@gingerbreadslice anything wirey like an old coat hanger you can undo and then jab down there to break it up?

Noooblerooble · 14/04/2020 22:43

You've all made me chuckle this evening. Thank you Grin

I am in a serious pickle tonight so I've lined up some help over the phone for tomorrow. I'm scared about how I get through the next few months right now. It doesn't feel very doable. Trying to come back to thinking of just doing today. I will feel better for talking to someone tomorrow. I think I got too sucked into reading negative stuff today. It has been overwhelming. Why are we not having more conversations about following Germany's lead? That would be helping me if we were. They're doing this all so well.
