(The government I mean. Not us here)

Bunnyflop · 15/04/2020 07:28

@Noooblerooble I’m so sorry you’re struggling so much right now. You really must avoid the news, it makes such a big difference. If I look at it I feel majorly depressed. If I don’t I feel alright, sometimes even quite cheery, especially when the sun is out.

Maybe try and surround yourself with all your favourite things today? Some random ideas off the top of my head- your favourite comedy tv show, lighting a candle, have a bubble bath, eat some chocolate, do some meditation on an app ( makes a massive difference to me personally).

Also, do you have a notebook that you could do a gratitude journal in? I keep one in my kitchen and I write down all the things I’m grateful for, no matter how long or short the list. It can be anything from a cup of tea to fresh air to lazing on the sofa. It really helps lift your mood.

We will get through this. I promise.

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 08:18

I agree @Noooblerooble the news is very depressing at the moment. Why is there no reporting on new infection rates? Surely they must be dropping.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 08:24

@Noooblerooble sorry you're feeling down. Yesterday I strayed online as well and it put me in a mood where I'd been okay until then. It's hard though isn't it when you want to know what's going on, it seems hard to find a neutral balanced source of news and if you're someone who is usually well informed it's hard to avoid the news.
Well done for setting up some help, and go back to the day to day stuff if you can. I'll post you a link to a really useful talk as well. Thanks

I don't know if you've listened to this @Noooblerooble? Was very helpful for me.

The news in my local hospital is that the expected Easter weekend rush did not materialise in the way expected so that is good news.

Daffodilpasta · 15/04/2020 08:43

Morning all,

Sorry have been absent for a while, back at work. And honestly- it’s all calm and feels oddly organised and under control (GP) , I know we’re not at the sharp end as such but there really is a feeling of it being manageable. The news and daily death tolls really aren’t always concentrating on the overall picture of the curve definitely being flattened (I look at worldometers for the graphics rather than getting bogged down in numbers, which will vary day to day depending on reporting etc)

Great to hear about the smurf toilet and @Pinkarsedfly I’m so glad your Mum is better. Hope you have a better day @Noooblerooble, this thing is going in the right direction and is doable Smile

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 08:54

Newspapers today reporting the hospitals are well within capacity even in London, only 19 patients in the Nightingale at the weekend. Good news www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-empty-beds-at-britains-first-nightingale-hospital-lmz8r6mwp

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 08:55

That's good to hear Daffodil Flowers

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 09:04

Thanks for the boost @Daffodilpasta and glad to hear work is okay for you. Where do we find worldometers?

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 09:10

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 09:14

Yes you can see a flattening in the past week can't you, I agree looking at the graphs seems better than the numbers. Fingers crossed that continues.

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 09:28

It is being reflected in the news today also:

From the BBC News:

Professor Peter Openshaw from Imperial College London says there are early signs that the UK lockdown is having a "beneficial effect".

The government is expected to announce an extension to the lockdown on Thursday and Prof Openshaw, who has previously sat on their Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that talk of removing measures is premature.

"It is much too early to think begin thinking about reversing the lockdown or saying which measures may be lifted," he said.

"At the moment hospital admissions are starting to level off in some parts and slowdown in others. It is not countrywide. It has been worse in London.

"The measures introduced would clearly have had a more beneficial effect if they had been introduced sooner but it may be that the effects of the lockdown will greater in those parts of the country that were behind on the curve."

All sounding overall quite positive. Flowers

Floofyy · 15/04/2020 09:45

Can I join you please?

Really struggling. After 2 years of miscarriages (11 in total) I was due to start IVF next month which has now been delayed for 6-8 months at least. It's understandable of course but it's sent me right back down in terms of my depression.

I'm back on (or supposed to be) my ADs but I'm scared to start them again as they made me so ill for the first week when I started them last year. My counselling has been cancelled, the hobby I was doing weekly which was helping has been cancelled. I can't see my mum who's my rock. I feel completely at rock bottom again and the horrible thoughts are slowly coming back, hoping I don't wake up in the mornings etc...

I feel awful Sad

Pinkarsedfly · 15/04/2020 09:50

Oh Floofyy I’m sorry, that all sounds unbelievably tough, and so unfair.

Big hugs and Flowers Cake and Brew for you.

From what you’ve written you sound very strong, though - so you will get through this.

Blerg · 15/04/2020 09:57

I read the news constantly but am careful to stick to less sensationalist sources. I also find the stats at Worldometers quite useful. Seeing hope in the gradual easing of lockdown in Europe, and hoping we will be no more than I month behind doing the same. Or less.

The fact the Nightingale hospitals are not yet needed everywhere and are well under capacity is also good to see.

@Floofyy sorry to hear about your situation that’s a lot on top of everything 💐

Bunnyflop · 15/04/2020 10:03

@Floofyy I’m so sorry. Do you know about ieso? It’s online counselling. They are really, really good and can help with every kind of situation. You can get set up with an assessment and therapy super quick normally and you speak to the same level of therapist as you’d normally see face to face.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 10:03

What news are you reading @Blerg?

Blerg · 15/04/2020 10:16

@Arcadia The Guardian seems to cover the stories without too much drama and their daily summary at a glance is good without being overwhelming. I’ve found some of The New York Times stuff on recovery from CV useful too. Scientific American is interesting but I am not a scientist so not sure how reliable they are. Also a thread on CV on Reddit which can be scary but also has some people who are good at unpacking research papers.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/04/2020 12:20

I had a longish telephone conversation yesterday with one of my Dear Daughters, which was great fun.

She lives in a small town of about 15,000 inhabitants, and tells me that her Mums Network doesn't know of a single case of covid19 in the entire town. She reckons they'd know if there had been one, because between them they know everyone, what with working for doctors and so on. I do wonder how may other small towns and villages there may be with not a single case; it does seem quite likely that there are at least a few, as well as there being some places which are centres of infection. In a population of about 6.5 million we have 93,873 cases, which when you look at it isn't that high a percentage.

And I did like the man who is sailing single-handed round the world and says he is safest of anyone apart from the occasional typhoon! Puts it all into perspective, that sort of thing.

Alsohuman · 15/04/2020 13:00

Oh @Floofyy, that’s desperate, I’m so very sorry. 💐

This is the nicest, most supportive and kindest corner of MN, I hope we can help.

In other news, they think our girl had a false negative so we’re back where we started. We both spoke to her last night in a marathon phone call and she’s holding her own. We’re less worried now we’ve spoken to her.

And, yes, that old boy has raised £4 million now. They don’t make them like him any more, he’s wonderful.

chrissieone · 15/04/2020 13:10

I've just dared Mail Online (yes, I know!) only to check Captain Tom's total and he has now passed £6 million. Apparently, The JustGiving site keeps crashing because so many people are trying to donate.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 16:16

Seem to be able to get the Telegraph positive news again -although this is yesterday's

Ok need opinions- would I be nuts to do a click and collect from the garden centre? They said they’d leave everything in a trolley in their dinky car park for me.
