Just that really. Noticed on the update that they referenced how China lowered the curve & slowed down the rate of infections & deaths... but I don’t think I’m buying it Confused. What do you think?

Just the general attitude towards the keeping and killing of animals in general. Wet markets, wildlife or the festivals, the onus isn’t on hygiene and humane methods, and that will never end well. As has been shown time and time again. I saw that having grown up in China - I loved it and all the people I met there but that side of things? I turned vegetarian at the age of 10 after a school trip to a market.

Tardigrade001 · 31/03/2020 19:51

Has anyone on this thread actually watched the report of the independent international experts?

Probably not. It's a fascinating illustration of why people prefer fake news which confirm their own biases over facts that don't. Plus it takes effort and offers no emotional gratification.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 31/03/2020 19:54

Of course, we don't DARE point a finger at anyone these days, do we?

KayakingOnDown · 31/03/2020 19:55

All that medical equipment that China sent to European countries, tests, masks etc, has been revealed to be faulty.

KayakingOnDown · 31/03/2020 19:56

The Netherlands had to recall 600,000 face masks, to take one example.

PinkiOcelot · 31/03/2020 20:03

I don’t believe them.

heartsonacake · 31/03/2020 20:03

Of course they’re lying about the data. The reason the world is in this mess is because of their cover up in the first place.

Sweetpea84 · 31/03/2020 20:04

Nope I don’t believe China either or their figures it’s all one big cover up to save face and their economy.

Tellmetruth4 · 31/03/2020 20:08

I don’t trust their data at all and I don’t like the way they’re trying to push the blame on to and are discriminating against foreigners. This article made my blood boil.

The WHO were either mugs or incompetent - they spent most of January saying quarantine wasn't necessary and there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission.

Of course they are. It's China. If they were to announce the sky is blue I'd go outside and check.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/03/2020 20:16

I don’t think they are pushing the blame on foreigners, rather than they are scared of a second wave of infections coming from people returning.

mochajoes · 31/03/2020 20:17

Singapore & Taiwan I believe stopped travel from China against the advice of the WHO & came in for criticism from China so that was speedy action that stopped an influx of cases.

I don't believe the China figures, yes I think they will be lower than Europe as they can use more draconian measures to enforce lockdown & they could contain it better in areas however why build a new hospital with 1000 beds in 10 days?

tegucigalpa13 · 31/03/2020 20:17

@Tellmetruth4..

And let’s not forget the ridiculous claims by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian that the US military brought the COVID-19 virus to Wuhan.

Chinese Government Spokesmen only parrot the party line. So this was a deliberate attempt by the Chinese regime to shift the blame for the outbreak to the US - in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

But obviously they assess that there enough idiots out there that this blatant lie will be picked up and resonate on social media in the west.

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 31/03/2020 20:18

Hang on, since when is calling out a country for lying classed as racism?!

Sweetpea84 · 31/03/2020 20:19

Yes close their borders, we’re alright Jack now you can get on with it. Hopefully if they close their borders we won’t have to buy their plastic crap anymore.

DarkPassenger · 31/03/2020 20:19

I'm not sure if I believe the figures to be honest.

I saw something maybe a week ago saying that circa 50,000 mobile contacts or signals? had been dropped. Apparently everyone in China has a mobile phone linking their identity to the government and this figure had dropped off some kind of published stats.

I remember thinking that's disturbingly interesting I'll come back to it, but then ended up somewhere else and had forgotten about it until I saw this post. I don't do FB or Twitter or anything like that, mostly forums, discussion groups and articles. I can't remember if it was a comment on a scientific/medical article or in a group so can't track back to it unfortunately.

KayakingOnDown · 31/03/2020 20:21

Don't forget the poor Doctor who blew the whistle (and subsequently died of the virus) - they threatened him, intimidated him, shut him up. They covered it up for weeks.

DarkPassenger · 31/03/2020 20:21

It should be Contracts not contacts in my post above.

midgebabe · 31/03/2020 20:22

In a population the size of China people will die, and people will buy new phones and so the phones will drop off

TulipsInAJug · 31/03/2020 20:24

China will now recover from this more quickly than any other country, (due to shutting borders), having given the virus to the world. They will emerge as the economic superpower of the 21st century with massive political influence.

It is bad news for liberal democracies.

I hope parliament will stop the Huawei 5g contract, at least.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/03/2020 20:26

@DarkPassenger
I am a China resident and don’t have my identity linked to my phone linked to the govt.

TulipsInAJug · 31/03/2020 20:28

You must be an expat then Shanghaidiva
