Coffee syrups from a small company.

new0rules · 29/03/2020 20:58

An iPad Air- been coveting for ages and I got paid last week Grin

KipperTheFrog · 29/03/2020 20:58

I ordered clothes for DD1 yesterday. She lives in dresses and the age 5-6 are getting indecently short. Had planned to take her shopping but then Coronavirus put a stop to that, so I’ve had to order online. I know we’re stuck at home, but she’s nearly 6, she wants clothes that fit! Other than that we’re cutting back on spending as DH has taken furlough from work.

SpeedofaSloth · 29/03/2020 20:59

There is a little haberdashery by me who run a lovely, helpful shop and usually run a mobile service to care homes too, which they can't do at the moment. They are now doing bits online. TBH I plan to order some yarn not because I need it, but because I want their business to survive.

A bottle of champagne 🍾

This is such a depressing thread. So much for the hope that once this is over, when we had a chance to consider the repercussions of this, we could start again. Consume less. Be wiser. But no- just the same race to the bottom.

The amount of plastic shite coming in from China that I have to handle. You can see the contents of the small parcel as it is clearly stated on the back!

Aye, the 'stay the fuck home' brigade continue with their endless consumerism. Makes me laugh. My workplace is heavily unionised. We all try and maintain social distancing but it is sometimes impossible to hear instructions from managers over the roar of machinery. As for those moving the large parcels - many are a two man job as JustStayAtHome has previously clarified.

Fuck the workers - as long as they get their bottle of artisan gin or Easter Tree decorations! I ain't complaining. The overtime money will come in handy.

JustStayAtHome · 29/03/2020 21:02

@Merename i'm feeling pretty deflated to be honest

our company listened to our concerns and we closed....only click and collect now for essential items, given in the car park! working well but we have to have contact with the public and we are getting test purchases from the police to make sure we comply!!

customers are rocking up,4 in a car, complete families....ask what they want...'oh just some paint/compost/curtains!!'

i tell them to go home, its not essential....police are fining people, they are putting us at risk, but they dont care. they are genuinely shocked we are closed

our online delivery operation means driver and drivers mate are in close contact. theres no escape. 50% of our workforce are now off...so we need to work harder and for longer to meet the demand.

the 2 18 year olds out in the car park today manning the click/collect were freezing. and abused by the public verbally. I despair of the British public i really do

JamesNesbittsBrows · 29/03/2020 21:03

I thought we weren't supposed to be buying non essential items

I'm confused by this. I'm concerned about workers being made to work instead of furloughed.

Anyone directly involved explain?

JustStayAtHome · 29/03/2020 21:05

yes, silver lining is we are in a secure job, no chance of furlough....and as much overtime as we want

if we survive that is!

JustStayAtHome · 29/03/2020 21:07

shops like b&m sell items from the essentials list.....they sell a mix of hardware/pet supplies/food etc so can remain open fully......and they also sell paint/home decor non essentials which people seem to freely be able to buy too

the government set the rules but dont seem to be policing them

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/03/2020 21:09

Crikey - well done to those of you thinking ahead to wine.
I've just tried to order a case online and everywhere I can think of is sold out / not accepting new orders. I need more red wine Shock

BellatrixLestat · 29/03/2020 21:10

Some paint for my kitchen (lockdown project)

heidbuttsupper · 29/03/2020 21:12

Dominos pizza Grin

HigherFinish · 29/03/2020 21:12

@TiddleTaddleTat check independent local wine shops

SospanFrangipan · 29/03/2020 21:15

Woody from Toy Story, trampoline & a slide as it's DS 3rd birthday on Wednesday and our trip away is obviously not happening now. At least the trampoline and slide will keep him busy during lockdown!

Merename · 29/03/2020 21:18

@JustStayAtHome, I’m not surprised you are feeling deflated - me too and I’m not in your position - the tone of many of these threads suggests that people are really just not prepared to consider others to the extent that they have to make some sacrifices to their consumerism.

@MissGuernsey, it is ironic that many of the Chinese plastic tat buyers will be the ones on here piously judging everyone else on their lockdown behaviour. I’m happy for you if you’re happy and it makes you extra money but I’d prefer that the govt had better options than this to keep you safe.

Sending sanitised well wishes to you both Smile

ElsasSalamander · 29/03/2020 21:18

Nothing ordered today but couple of days ago - a new computer mouse (essential for wfh) & some craft stuff to keep the kids busy whilst I wfh!

RingPiece · 29/03/2020 21:20

Footner. Perfect opportunity to shed foot skin.

ohcarriemathison · 29/03/2020 21:22

A new trampoline for DD and DS, DS broke the old one last summer and we were hoping time get house on the market last year / this year but can't see it happening img now so thought fuck it.
Outdoor sand and chalks for DD. A scooter ramp for DS, it's his favourite thing to do and he's so sad not to go to the skate park and see his friend.
Definitely doing my bit for the economy !
I'll be out working as a curse in the community so at least they'll have some things to do.

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 29/03/2020 21:25

Some cloth nappies and wipes for our impending new arrival.
Some card and board games to entertain the child while stuck at home.

ohcarriemathison · 29/03/2020 21:25

Oh no not curse !! Nurse !!

Haworthia · 29/03/2020 21:30

I bought a dress last week. But it’s OK because it’s from a one woman small business who still relies on orders to keep afloat, right?

I’m sure if it was from Boohoo the MN capitalism police would be DEFCON1 frothing.

FizzyPink · 29/03/2020 21:40

Footner is a great shout! I normally always struggle to time it right with having to get my feet out at the gym or something

hairyxmasturkey · 29/03/2020 21:43

Aren't we putting delivery drivers/ warehouse workers etc at more risk by ordering non essential items? Genuine q...
