Today I've ordered some seeds and a new headset from amazon.

Anyone else?

OP posts:
nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 21:44

Yeah, but they don't care

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/03/2020 21:45

Yes, I have been averse to ordering non essentials for that reason ...
I've counted veg seeds and compost as essentials so I can produce some of our own food over spring / summer

Roweeeeena · 29/03/2020 21:45

Playmobil sets, a chess board, a zillion takeaways. To be honest I don't feel bad in any way whatsoever, especially when I have neighbours still letting their kids play out, people are bending the rules to walk their dogs multiple times a day and there's tons of posts on here with absolutely dumb justifications for "going for a drive" or "needing" to visit family. If I'm going to stay home as I'm told then I'm going to order some stuff to make it vaguely enjoyable for us all.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 29/03/2020 21:45

A few birthday presents just in case the situation deteriorates and I can't buy any

Iwouldbecomplex · 29/03/2020 21:45

A dart board!

littlebitwooway · 29/03/2020 21:47

A spring dress in m&s. I had to as I have it already in the wrong size and it was low in stock.

H1978 · 29/03/2020 21:48

Not today but I did order charades which came on Friday Grin

Stuckforthefourthtime · 29/03/2020 21:49

This really is horrible, and I'm generally more in favour of keeping things going than lots of people on here.

People working for Royal Mail and delivering and packing your shite are on low incomes and at risk. If people stopped ordering so much rubbish more could be furloughed, but instead demand is up so much that they all have to come in.

Support small business by buying vouchers for a few weeks, for goodness sake. And of you truly must, at least don't buy anything at all from Amazon, you're barely keeping the economy going given their miserable wages and tax avoidance.

Pigsnduvets · 29/03/2020 21:49

I despair of the British public i really do

Are you Father Christmas or do you personally know each & every person in Britain? Hmm

Jonb6 · 29/03/2020 21:54

There is a strong argument that stopping everything will result in huge insolvency issues and it's better for some companies to keep working. Sweden is interesting. The same mortality rate as the UK but no lockdown, so look forward to seeing their figures ongoing.

pinksauce · 29/03/2020 21:56

@JustStayAtHome @Merename - You seem to be thinking this is about changing society rather than overcoming the effects of a virus.

The entire government strategy is about keeping the economy going whilst keeping people isolated. All jobs remains being done - either at home or if not possible in the workplace. The only thing changed is that all retail services are done via delivery - outlets that were modernising were already able to do this. There would be no point paying people's wages from government if we were intending to reduce the size of the economy.

I do personally believe we will look to ensure we import less and have less reliance on other countries (i.e. ensuring all single market rules even if was in EU are removed to ensure industry/services in country are prioritised over cooperation), but I don't think there is any intention to change the size of the economy. This will mean that a lot of lower paid jobs abroad will be back in the UK unfortunately, and we will have to accept paying a premium for basics.

It could be the high street retail stores and cafes never re-open as they were. The high street continues to change... and without people returning full time to work in person (probable to some extent), less lunch-time cafe's will be needed... so probably quite a change the way towns work.

MissGuernsey · 29/03/2020 21:58

it is ironic that many of the Chinese plastic tat buyers will be the ones on here piously judging everyone else on their lockdown behaviour. I’m happy for you if you’re happy and it makes you extra money but I’d prefer that the govt had better options than this to keep you safe.

I think you can guess my employer from my reference to a heavily unionised workforce. I was absolutely slated on here pre-lockdown when I stated that I would continue going to the cinema, gym and library. Nobody could understand my argument. Although the aforementioned businesses are now closed my view hasn't. Sitting 'working from home' whilst they judge me. Mumsnetters must be incredibly naive if they think we can all practice social distancing at work. Obviously have never worked in a distribution centre. Or they don't give a fuck. Tis the demonisation of the working class and the 'I am alright Jack' attitude.

Mother87 · 29/03/2020 22:02

An unmumsnetty toilet brush🤦🏻‍♀️in the shape of a cherry on a stalk😳 Just WHY?!?!

Snowflakes1122 · 29/03/2020 22:02

I bought a digital download game for my DC.

Not purchased anything that needs physical delivery as it’s not fair on the postman or courier.

Aren't you lovely? Remember those workers may be visiting supermarkets daily and not following the rules on essential shopping trips. Maybe their work canteen has closed (although under the rules it could have remained open) so they see an opportunity to visit supermarkets late in the day before the night shift to buy a reduced 'lunch' and food reductions (I hear there are rich pickings now the panic-buying frenzy has subsided). Now think about that love or do I have to spell it out?

Merename · 29/03/2020 22:06

@pinksauce, I don’t know a lot about economics so am happy to hear clear information on the potential risks to life of the economic impact.

I do think this is about overcoming the effects of the virus, however - preventing unnecessary loss of life. As we all know, soon nhs staff are likely to be deciding who to to treat and who not to treat, due to lack of ventilators etc, and so I think currently any activity that increases the chances of spread in this way should be avoided.

Jonb6 · 29/03/2020 22:06

You do realise the only reason we are in lockdown isn't to stop people getting it per se, it's so the virus peaks at a point where the NHS can cope. So we will all either get it, or have natural immunity eventually. Keeping some businesses open means it still spreads, but at a slower rate so the NHS can deal with the onslaught.

FanSpamTastic · 29/03/2020 22:06

I ordered a bag from Mia Tui - they have had a big order cancelled that is already made and in the country Mia Tui. I can imagine that this could be a big problem for them as a small business if they cannot shift this extra stock.

MissGuernsey · 29/03/2020 22:09

Stuckforthefourthtime

We deliver medical supplies and medical test samples which are vital in the fight against the virus.

MamaWeasel · 29/03/2020 22:13

I, too, ordered from Mia Tui this weekend, because they are a small business. @fanspamtastic

Holothane · 29/03/2020 22:13

Later this week tokens for in-laws birthday, they live far away,

Stuckforthefourthtime · 29/03/2020 22:15

We deliver medical supplies and medical test samples which are vital in the fight against the virus.

Not sure how that means that anyone should be buying tat to add to the number of delivery workers needed, though?

Pigsnduvets · 29/03/2020 22:20

And how do you expect someone to stick a cannula in, help someone go to the toilet, give first aid to a child, checkout your groceries, collect your full bins etc

Some jobs are not compatible with social distancing. Get a grip or a new job!

Coronavirus has really bought out all the special snowflakes in this society. It’s bloody disappointing!

Pigsnduvets · 29/03/2020 22:21

( I work in a hospital )

Pigsnduvets · 29/03/2020 22:23

P.S I ordered some new clothes online Grin
