Today I've ordered some seeds and a new headset from amazon.

Anyone else?

@WhereverIMayRoam which wine company if you don't mind my asking ?

I have been searching high and low for a wine place that will send me a case but they've all closed orders...

juneybean · 30/03/2020 12:33

Just ordered 2 large tins of paint from Farrow & Ball for the hall and pantry, had already bought Dulux gloss before lockdown but hadn’t decided on colour for walls

TheGreatWave · 30/03/2020 13:25

What's non essential though? Especially over a long period of time.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 30/03/2020 13:29

The government is attempting a balancing act between slowing the virus, keeping the economy going and being realistic about what restrictions people can put up with and for how long. Those advocating for more draconian restrictions now are being arrogant in relation to this delicate balancing act. They seem to be assuming that people can put up with such measures for far longer than the Government think that they can. Whether the Government proves to be right or wrong in their calculations, I think it is beholden on us to comply with the letter and the spirit of the rules not to pre-empt what might happen next.

As for employers and their workers not implementing social distancing where they can, then they should be called out on that. Social distancing inevitably means that everything will happen more slowly, but some businesses seem to be reluctant to make their customers wait, at the expense of their staff.

PleaseSirMyGoat · 30/03/2020 13:55

@TheGreatWave exactly!! I would argue that some of the things mentioned on this thread are essential, or at least very important. Especially when we could be talking months here.

MinorArcana · 30/03/2020 16:39

@catscatscatseverywhere DH ordered a hair trimmer set from Amazon last week, and it was delivered 2 days later. DH was due a trip to the hairdressers, and he doesn’t trust me to have a go at trimming his hair with the kitchen scissors 🤷‍♀️

So Amazon are delivering some non-essential stuff - I think I read that they were stopping third party sellers from using their warehouses for non-essential products. Maybe their delivery times vary regionally?

We also ordered some soap last week. Fancy soap from a small business. Not immediately necessary, but soap has been hard to find at our local shops the past few weeks.

Motherofchickens1 · 30/03/2020 23:13

Some books for my grandaughters birthday and some really nice hand cream for my daughter who works for the NHS and her hands are raw with constant washing.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 30/03/2020 23:14

So far....

Molten Brown shower gel
New foundation
A couple of Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks
All from John Lewis
Five summer dresses from M&S plus some new socks for my dad
Gin, vodka and wine
Books for my mother in law
Piano music for my dad
Flea drops for the dogs
Various packets of seed for herbs which will probably not grow
Candles and soap from st eval candle company
Flowers

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 30/03/2020 23:15

Almost forgot - paint for the hall and living room from Farrow and Ball. Feel no guilt for any of it.

starrynight19 · 30/03/2020 23:16

The pictures from ASOS tonight are not acceptable at all. Staff being put on crowded buses to get into the warehouse.
Lack of wipes / sanitation/ being able to keep to the 2m rule.
It makes it hard to balance keeping ordering non essential stuff Sad

Galvantula · 31/03/2020 06:22

I don't feel great about someone having to pick my order, but I have ordered toys and books for my son's birthday which we've not been organised for before all this. (From Amazon).

Some coffee from a smaller company.

Small item from a local music shop.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 31/03/2020 09:48

Starry I agree that is unacceptable . We probably need regulations to require companies to observe social distancing where they can. I would not buy from a company that I know is not allowing their staff to observe social distancing where they could be.

flooredbored · 31/03/2020 10:15

Cashmere sleep mask

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 31/03/2020 13:07

Hamster wadding and henna as the hair dye I've been buying for years is now out of stock and no, have zero interest in 'embracing' grey hair.

everythingisginandroses · 31/03/2020 13:54

Been down with CV19 symptoms for last fortnight. Have ordered zinc and camomile tea, printer ink for DS's schoolwork and some gloves for when I can go back out into the world. After reading some really rude and sanctimonious stuff on here I also ordered a few books to cheer myself up (I don't use Amazon).

YDYtrue · 31/03/2020 14:02

Nothing.
Mainly because my partner is a delivery driver and is having to deliver more parcels than in the weeks before Christmas at the moment. He’s having to deliver to 140 odd addresses and handle upwards of 250 parcels a day.

SomethingOnce · 01/04/2020 10:46

Is the absence of traffic not making it easier than during the Xmas period, YDY?

YDYtrue · 01/04/2020 16:37

Not really as he delivers in a very small postcode area anyway (for example xx22 and xx23) so although the drive time is marginally reduced it’s not a huge difference. He still has to get in and out of the van 140 times! He is saving some time because more people are home so he’s not having to try neighbours and because he’s not getting people to sign just taking a picture. None of that is relevant to the risk though.

I just wonder how many of the people ordering non essentials are then leaving the item in the porch for three days to minimise the risk to themselves? But it’s ok for the drivers to have to handle over 200 a day?

I’ve had a couple of deliveries myself of stuff for the dc’s home learning and my regular nappy delivery for the baby and I also sent Mother’s Day presents for my mum and mil so I’m not saying people should stop ordering altogether, I just wish people would stop the mindless ordering of stuff as a hobby. Just for now.

YDYtrue · 01/04/2020 16:40

I think a lot of people think well they’re out there delivering anyway so I may as well order stuff. I suppose my take on it is that every parcel is an extra risk so the fewer the better at this time.

Grumpbum123 · 01/04/2020 16:42

32 bags of 32.5g bags of golden wonder salt and vinegar purchased under the influence of alcohol and whilst craving said crisps

BearBearBearBear · 01/04/2020 16:58

I went wild at the weekend. A wine order (def essential) a nice new tracksuit for all 3 of us. A Star Wars advent calendar for DS5, he's going to be allowed to open a window every morning after phonics/writing. An ant farm cos I'm not allowed a puppy. A sports bra and cashmere socks. Oh and a selection of 5 second hand Lego sets from eBay for general bribery.
If I'm not leaving the house I need to make it semi enjoyable Confused

Showmeyourhero · 01/04/2020 17:00

A motorised speed boat for my 4 Year olds bath Confused

RishiSunakFanClub · 01/04/2020 18:28

Loving the catsbum virtue signalling threads. Obviously they won't be ordering anything, they're too busy polishing their halos Grin

I've got a few things in the Amazon basket - haven't pressed 'buy' yet.
