The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

As well as the divs telling them they'd have to leave the new washing machine outside for however long in case it has CV on it 🙄

Is this off of sound medical advice? Unpackage outside. Wash hands. Clean off with soapy water and then bring in house. 72 hours on plastic?

I am more than happy to not be a hero. I’m hunkered down at home doing non heroic things. Watching telly, spending far too long on my phone and not doing wholesome things. I do my food shopping online and don’t plan to see another human for 3-6 months. No heroism here.

STAY HOME SAVE LIVES

If people are following the guidelines they ARE saving lives. I don’t GAF if they want to be smug about it,as long as they’re doing it!

Save your ire for those meeting up with friends, popping to the shop every day, letting their kids play out with friends etc.

Yet another reason to be happy I don’t use Facebook. Try it. Its a far nicer world when you don’t see the twattery!!

@Krazykitty I am in the same position. I am used to people thinking that they are an expert on my health and offering useless and unasked for advice. Fortunately due to social distancing I don’t get any of it face to face now 😂
I go out for my walk everyday - we even drive to the park because where I live is so hilly that I can’t manage it with my heart condition. I ignore all of the frothing on here because I know that those people have very little knowledge or understanding of my situation.
So enjoy your walk 🙂

My bil is in the middle of cutting trees along a railway line. He has to continue with this work.

He has people shouting STAY HOME SAVE LIVES at him while he works as well as abuse from passer bys, people shouting from cars and now threats to report him posted on his company website.

It's fucking ridiculous.

My MIL sent me this via Facebook messenger the other night. She's a lovely woman, but she reads this, panics, hits send all and doesn't stop to think that it may be bollocks.

I’ve just had this from my colleague Jill at work who used to be a nurse...
..........
This is a text from an NHS worker
As of tomorrow, do not leave home for bread for anything! Because the worst begins tomorrow as the incubation date is met and many people that are positive with the virus start to peak!! It’s at this time other people are most vulnerable! so it is very important to stay home and not to be in contact with anybody, even members of your family if possible!! Being very careful is very important and very crucial at this time!!

As from tomorrow we are going to see the start of the peak of those that are positive, then there will be two weeks of calm and then two weeks where it decreases.

What happened in Italy is that they neglected the contagion period and that is why all the cases turned out together and so badly, plus they didn’t know what they were dealing with .

And finally, please do not receive visits from anyone, not even from the same family. This is all for the good of all.

WE WILL BE IN THE MAXIMUM STAGE OF INFECTION.

DO NOT HOLD ON TO THIS MESSAGE, PASS IT ON TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS

They absolutely do not! It's nesting season, it's fucking illegal to cut down trees when the birds nest.

I always find it suspicious if "Jill" or anyone else passing on such vital information clearly has an addiction to exclamation marks.Grin

DeadButDelicious

I saw than on facebook about 3 or 4 days ago. So 'tomorrow' has already been gone.

But you are right. Too many people see these things and panic.

They absolutely do not! It's nesting season, it's fucking illegal to cut down trees when the birds nest.

That's not true. You have to carry out surveys before, you do it and can not disturb nesting birds.

Before any work is carried out within this season a thorough visual survey needs to be carried out to ensure there are no nesting birds present or that the intended work will not disturb any birds nesting near to the work site. During this season it should be assumed that nesting birds will be present and therefore it is the duty of the client and contractor to prove otherwise.

A quick google gave me the above from a website explaining the laws around tree surgery.

The tree cutting is all approved and the protection of birds is considered. Trees have been storm damaged and are jeopardising the safety of the railway tracks.

It's not "fucking illegal". Sorry but you'd be outraged if one of your family was killed on train derailed by a fallen tee on the track.

If it's not on Facebook it didn't happen though, so they need to post so everyone knows it happened.

Amelie If you are not on Facebook you really are being spared the twattery, it's out of this world at the moment. I feel constantly preached at, and I am following guidelines.

I commented on one of these FB posts where there’s an old man standing looking sad in the supermarket with a list with just one word written on it “eggs in spidery writing “ and the poster had gone home and cried
I questioned why he would have a list with one word on it and apparently I am an old person hater with no compassion for others and I’m probably one of these hoarders who had all the eggs and one day I will be old and people will treat me badly too and as I’m young and nayeeve (sic) I don’t know anything and maybe he had dementia so his housebound wife had sent him with the list because she was self isolating due to symptoms so she would probably die soon and then so would he and their bodies would never be found and the poor man would never get his eggs!!
Or some other shite

Mmmm.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 29/03/2020 09:01

@CaMePlaitPas it was shared in a parenting group. Not someone I know who wrote it.

Unfortunately, I have seen plenty of 'my child is the second coming' posts for years. Obviously not around Corona. But about other things. Plenty of them have comments from the person who wrote insisting it's true and people who dont agree are just jealous.

@Shitsgettingcrazy

That hurt my brain and made sick in my throat.

Luckily I am brutal with my Facebook friends. Mine are all normal, mildly alcoholic, women who share the odd funny video and meme and that’s it. My eyes are still bleeding from that. You need a cull.

Rail companies are getting away with cutting trees because they want to improve the phone signal.

They also started clearing the woodlands for HS2.

My SIL has continued to put others at risk, she was in the pub on that final Friday even though I asked her not to go, she pops to Tesco in the car every day for bits, and out a couple of times a day for non essential stuff and to visit friends.

She'll post on the family Whatsapp a selfie when out saying 'social distancing' and an angel smiley.

I'm hoping they'll run out of money and kick HS2 into the long grass and divert funding to improve the current infrastructure.
