So BoJo has COVID-19!

The more high profile people get it though the more likely the idiots who think they are immune to Corona are to take it seriously

Hoppinggreen, I'm thinking the same.

Johnson could actually make a positive of this: say that he got it wrong in shaking hands and not social-distancing, and that people should learn from his mistake.

That would be something good he could do for the country.

(I should make it clear I don't think it's a positive thing he's actually got COVID-19.)

rabbitsnose · 27/03/2020 14:08

*The more high profile people get it though the more likely the idiots who think they are immune to Corona are to take it seriously

Totally disagree, the more high profile cases there are with mild symptoms, the more complacent the idiots will get. “See, told you it was nothing, Prince Charles/Boris barely sneezed”.*

It'll be a mixture of the two responses

To be fair, a number of native Brits are also surprisingly ignorant / confused about the succession order for the monarchy
and also the British Constitution

Because we don't care

PicturesOfCats · 27/03/2020 14:09

Our fatality figures should and could look like Germany's with the correct guidence and money put into the right places. But it dosent, as instead it highlights just how undervalued the NHS has been for 10 years, it has shown through the NICE guidelines how expandable disabled, disordered and chronically ill people really are considered.
Its truly embarrassing

Yep, I mean the first thing I though when I heard of the THOUSANDS of death in Spain and Italy was ‘how embarrassing for them’.

I don't understand why not a single person is comfortable engaging on the issues of Johnson's and the Queen's troubled successions.

What's troubled about them? From the Queen it's a straight line Charles-William-George-Charlotte-Louis. The chances of all of those succumbing to C19 and dying are pretty bloody tiny. For the Prime Minister, it's absolutely standard practice that a deputy stands in till a successor as leader of the party is appointed.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2020 14:10

1.5 m works for brief, casual encounters, like passing by someone on your daily exercise walk

However, when people are in close proximity for hours of meetings, deabtes, votes
then they'll be breathing in invisible droplets

The govt and PHE need to be video-conferencing etc as much as poss - but it is not always practical or convenient
I bet it's being rmped up more now, though

At least if Parliament is shut down, that removes an obvious increased risk of infection

Alsohuman · 27/03/2020 14:10

Because we don't care

Then you really should. If you don’t know anything about the British constitution you’re not fit to vote.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2020 14:11

Never have I felt more sympathy - for a virus!!

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 27/03/2020 14:13

I still want to know how or why Boris was out and about last night when he supposedly knew he was showing symptoms and how he's developed symptoms, had a test and got the results in 24 hours?

I thought they were saying it took a couple of days to get the results?

Either way, this morning he said he'd had the symptoms for 24 hours so should have been SI last night.

mynameiswah · 27/03/2020 14:13

*lets just wait for the conspiracy theorists on the net say that Charles and Boris havent REALLY got it - its a lie to make us think we are all in it together, and they are really all jetting off to Branson's island in the caribbean, where a 'No 10 backdrop' is ready and waiting for any future announcements.

Just to add that I DO NOT BELIEVE IT AT ALL*

I voted Tory, I think he’s been doing a stellar job at PM, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

However, I am intrigued people are showing their true colours. Wishing someone harm, really? Still, getting a nice cull of my Facebook.

PatioCandidate · 27/03/2020 14:14

That procedure generally follows a general election and supposes agreement on the appointment of a Prime Minister and a living Queen.

No, it doesn't. There have been numerous occasions when we have changed Prime Ministers between elections - it's not even as if you have to look that far back, it's happened three times this century.

And why does it depend on a "living queen"? If the queen dies, we immediately have a living king.

mynameiswah · 27/03/2020 14:14

I hope he hasn't passed it to all those journalists. And to Witty and Sunak.

adiposegirl2 · 27/03/2020 14:14

Chris Witty has not yet had CV

Professor Neil Ferguson the virus expert from imperial college is the one who has it. I think he is in recovery now?

Delatron · 27/03/2020 14:18

I was despairing at how close they were all stood together at the press conferences!

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2020 14:19

I live in Germany; we had over 6,000 new cases yesterday
and we are taking in cases from France & Italy, who are in desperate straits

If this goes on, imo even the expensive German health system - which I'm glad to pay for -
with more beds, staff & capacity than just about anywhere else,
will eventually be overloaded

... in which case deaths will rocket, like Italy

Hopefully lockdown measures in the various countries will give us all time to build up the capacity to cope,
extra equipment, more staff, more training for ICU

No health system in the world was designed to cope with a disaster on this scale

Maybe we do now need to build this in, as the cost in lives and longterm damage to the global economy is sufficiently horrendous to make it worthwhile ?

SapatSea · 27/03/2020 14:19

Matt Hancock has tested positive, he's been out and about and around all the TV stations of late.

I don't like the man, but now isn't the time for sarcasm and pisstaking. Have some decency!

Cam77 · 27/03/2020 14:20

(I'll get that bold thing to work properly one day)

PatioCandidate · 27/03/2020 14:21

You also have a delicate issue because, similarly to communist China, your forces belong to the Crown and not the country.

We seem to have coped with that issue for centuries without any problem. What makes you think it's suddenly delicate now?

Then you really should. If you don’t know anything about the British constitution you’re not fit to vote.

So only sheep who are prepared to kowtow to a rich and privileged family should be able to vote? Absolute bollocks! I know plenty about the British constitution, I just don't care which of the RF is in what position in the line of succession.

PatioCandidate · 27/03/2020 14:22

I don't really wish ill on anyone, but the teeniest evil bit of me wouldn't be entirely sorry if Cummings had caught it.

Writersblock2 · 27/03/2020 14:23

I quite deliberately didn’t mention the monarchy or its succession. I said the constitution which you said you didn’t care about.

PatioCandidate · 27/03/2020 14:25

I voted Tory, I think he’s been doing a stellar job at PM, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

He knew that CV was coming by late January, he and his cronies wasted several weeks before doing anything about the inevitable PPE shortage, resulting in hundreds of NHS staff literally having to put their lives in danger every day.

@Writersblock2, would you mind clarifying how that squares with doing a stellar job?
