The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

Wolfgirrl - I said before, the Queen would have been advised when the best time to do a televised broadcast would be.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 18:09

@mamamia465

The duchys own website says on the front page the profits go towards his and his sons private upkeep.

I wait with baited breath for the speech.

I might write to them actually that's a cracking idea. No doubt POW will fall over himself to take me up on it.

@Mamamia456

Why was it safe for Wills to fly a helicopter before but not now? You havent answered that one.

Or why Kate cant cook for a soup kitchen.

Or about why they cant forfeit the sovereign grant

What are you doing Wolfgirrl? Apart from posting obsessively about the royal family?

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/03/2020 18:16

Apart from posting obsessively about the royal family?

Eh, pot, kettle.

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 18:21

Chocoholic - You obviously don't care whether he will be our future king

I am not indifferent to this subject - rather the opposite. I very much hope that we will be a republic by the time his turn comes and that this discussion would be obsolete.

and yes, it's important to note how many people come to watch a royal wedding.

Mamamia456 · 27/03/2020 18:30

Wolfgirrl - Do you have a link for that website?

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 27/03/2020 18:34

How about we taxpayers say we've furloughed them and ask the govt to cover 80% of what we all pay? GrinGrin

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 18:35

Furloughed yes £2500 max

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 18:36

@Alsohuman I have said before what I am doing. Read the thread.

Throwing my point back at me doesnt refute it. You still havent answered the question.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 18:36

@Mamamia456

Google the duchy and it comes up immediately

Alsohuman · 27/03/2020 18:39

have said before what I am doing. Read the thread

If you think I’m ploughing through 24 pages you’re deluded. What’s the question again? You ask so many.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/03/2020 18:43

Although (the Duchy) was set up by Prince Charles it is now a subsidiary so he doesn't get any money from it

Do you have a link for this claim please?
I realise the Duchy's said to be almost unique in its financial opacity - to say nothing of its changing status according to whatever today's story is - but Charles "not getting any money from it" is a new one on me

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 18:43

@alsohuman

Why cant Wills go back to work as an air ambulance pilot for the duration of the pandemic?

Why cant they forfeit some of the sovereign grant to help out their nation which is headed for recession? All in it together and all that?

Why cant Kate cook for a soup kitchen?

Why cant the Duchy donate food and profit for food banks?

What are they actually doing, as head of state, to help the nation in its worst pandemic since ww2? (Aside from tweeting etc).

And if they are doing nothing - what is the point of them?

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 27/03/2020 18:50

They have an essential job to perform, they need to do it.

Please say this was meant ironically?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 18:52

I think we have finally understood what ‘essential’ means and it’s now with those who deserve it.

It’s this that highlights their main problem. Really not necessary nor useful.

yesterdayhasgone · 27/03/2020 18:53

This is what the royal family are, I have no reason in believing they don’t all have similar views. It’s entrenched in them.

Agree but I feel Harry was different in this for obvious reasons.

I think you can still be racist even if you marry someone of mixed race. After all Meghan didn’t even look mixed race. What about the disgusting remark “my little paki friend” he got called out on when he was in the army to someone in his platoon. It’s just in them. They disgust me.....

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 18:53

They have an essential job to perform

the point of this threat is to figure out what precisely this important job is if all they have to offer at a point of crisis is to go into hiding at their country homes.

Could you please enlighten us what this essential job entails?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 18:58

The whole idea of an essential job pretty much exposes the crux of the issue.

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/03/2020 18:59

I think you can still be racist even if you marry someone of mixed race.

Definitely but change has to start somewhere.

chalkiegirl · 27/03/2020 19:01

Such cynical views from some on here. I have always understood that members of the Royal Family have donated considerable amounts to various causes and disasters but they don't usually shout it from the rooftops. If they did then that would be perceived as wrong by many.

I don't think it right that the Royal Family seem to be taking the flak for a shortage of ventilators, protective equipment and medical staff when this is a government issue. The amount we pay to support their official duties is a drop in the ocean.

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 19:07

nobody blamed the royals. Confused

@chalkiegirl

I have always understood that members of the Royal Family have donated considerable amounts to various causes and disasters but they don't usually shout it from the rooftops

How do you know this as a fact?

If they did then that would be perceived as wrong by many.

The old damned if they do, damned if they dont. Seems to be the fallback for all inaction.

I don't think it right that the Royal Family seem to be taking the flak for a shortage of ventilators, protective equipment and medical staff when this is a government issue.

We havent criticised them for any of the above.

The amount we pay to support their official duties is a drop in the ocean.

This 'drop in the ocean' could pay for 2700 newly qualified nurses, teachers or police officers for a year. Which do we need most right now, nurses or royals? Which are we lacking?

Also; is it wrong to be cynical? Should we blindly accept anything?

Why cant Wills go back to work as an air ambulance pilot for the duration of the pandemic?

Maybe air ambulances aren’t part of the pandemic strategy with everyone being at home. They’re usually used to rescue people from hard to reach places or in heavy traffic. The roads are well nigh deserted in the East of England right now.

Why cant they forfeit some of the sovereign grant to help out their nation which is headed for recession? All in it together and all that? £65 million would be like pissing in the Pacific. Why aren’t you berating other multi millionaires?

Why cant Kate cook for a soup kitchen? I doubt if there are any. Social distancing and soup kitchens don’t seem particularly compatible.

Why cant the Duchy donate food and profit for food banks? We don’t know it doesn’t.

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 19:18

don't be daft, also, you know what the OP means. Hmm
