The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

not even the tourism argument is working now that the planes have stopped flying.... 🤔

Mamamia456 · 27/03/2020 17:39

Wolfgirrl - I doubt a photographer was asked to go into Windsor Castle just to take a photo, it would more likely be a member of staff. Whether you like it or not they will not put Prince William, as a future king, at any risk. I'm not saying I think his life is worth more than anyone else's, where did I say that? But being royal of course they're not going to put him at risk, why would anyone think otherwise?

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 17:42

lots of people volunteer. why don't you think the royals should not? It's a crisis. they are hiding... who cares if Will will be king?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/03/2020 17:42

Rhetorical or not, that's something you'll struggle to get an answer to, Lifeisabeach

Now the "check on government", "example to us all" and "earners of tourist millions" are out of the water, the best I've seen is that they're some sort of encouragement for us to join together in national pride

Personally I'd expect a bit more than that ...

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 17:43

@mamamia456

You have basically said due to the fact he is royal (which is meaningless when you think about it), despite being a fit young male who is supposed to be in training as a future king, he can hide away at a stately home until this is over, leaving recently retired (and therefore fairly elderly) doctors and unpaid members of the public to put their own safety at risk to help the sick.

To think Kings used to be on the battlefield and actually take personal risks all the time.

And no, I dont like it - it is pathetic and anyone that can recognise such as a person as 'king' has severe integrity problems in my opinion.

Fuck off with the ridiculous biscuit.

These are legitimate complaints. This antediluvian system has had its day long since.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 17:44

All those are out of the water it’s true and we’re left with they can upload an Instagram post. No thanks.

Alsohuman · 27/03/2020 17:44

lots of people volunteer. why don't you think the royals should not?

How do you know they haven’t? 500,000 people have signed up, how do you know they’re not amongst them?

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/03/2020 17:45

I agree with you, Puzzled. I, too, expect more.

chocoholico · 27/03/2020 17:46

lol, the spin machines run by the RF would be in overdrive.

yesterdayhasgone · 27/03/2020 17:46

We used to get brainwashed to think the queen mother was wonderful, everyone’s favourite granny, when in fact she was an extremely racist bigot. This is what the royal family are, I have no reason in believing they don’t all have similar views. It’s entrenched in them.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 17:48

If they had we’d never hear the end of it. Like the clapping. So I don’t reckon so. Someone might give them a PR boot up the jacksy though.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 17:48

@Alsohuman

We dont know they havent. But it's a reasonable assumption seeing as they have all fled and there is no mention of them anywhere.

It really is clutching at straws to say their silence means they're moonlighting in a soup kitchen.

The far more plausible and logical answer is that they're doing nothing.

Agree but I feel Harry was different in this for obvious reasons.

Alsohuman · 27/03/2020 17:50

I didn’t say that, you did. They could very easily have signed up as phone support volunteers.

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/03/2020 17:52

They could very easily have signed up as phone support volunteers.

Lol. Now I know why the queen was on the phone.

Mamamia456 · 27/03/2020 17:53

Chocoholic - You obviously don't care whether he will be our future king, but plenty of people do, the royal family are still very popular, you only have to look at the thousands who turn out for a royal wedding.

BurneyFanny · 27/03/2020 17:53

Lol. «And how is one feeling today»? Pull the other one.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 17:55

So now the list of excuses why they cannot possibly do anything of real use has stretched to:

  1. We havent heard anything from them so they are probably on covert secret charity missions (BS)
  2. You cant expect the queen to have a cameraman in her house (althiugh she had a photographer in a few days ago)
  3. They're damned if they do and damned if they dont (they wont be damned if they do. They just prefer dont)
  4. They are royals, they cant put themselves in danger (video message would be no danger to the queen, do you think she has sent all her servants home?! William being an air ambulance pilot was totally safe for years, but overnight it isn't now apparently)
  5. They did a video message and william asked for support for the homeless from his vast stately home (give me strength)
  6. They dont want to detract from the pandemic (because we aren't all on house arrest hearing about nothing else 😂)

No answer yet as to why they wont forfeit at least some of the sovereign grant as we face recession, or donate all food from the Duchy for food banks.

Probably because there isnt one.

FedUpWithThisToday · 27/03/2020 17:55

My hope is Harry.

He fought in Afghanistan. If he would Don some gloves and volunteer to support the NHS, I'd gain back a little respect for him (though looks like he's turned into one of them, by swanning off to a Malibu mansion to hide)

Mamamia456 · 27/03/2020 17:56

Wolfgirrl - They also used to have their wives beheaded, we've come a long way since then, thankfully. Why do you hate Prince William so much?

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 17:59

@mamamia465

Again, no answer to my questions... yawn..

Your desperation to change the subject is so relentless, it just gets boring.

OP posts:
Mamamia456 · 27/03/2020 18:00

Wolfgirrl - Like I said I doubt very much a photographer was allowed in to Windsor Castle, most likely a servant.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 18:03

@mamamia465

So this jack of many trades servant can point a camera but not a video recorder?

I see.

Hmm

I've answered your questions apart from 2. Have just googled the Duchy. Although it was set up by Prince Charles it is now a subsidiary so he doesn't get any money from it. If you feel that strongly why don't you write to them, you never know they might do it.
