We aren't going to lockdown tonight.

Stop scaremongering.

Maybe at the end of the week or next week. I reckon 10 days. But not tonight.

Even still, you can still go to the supermarket, pharmacy and walk the dog.

Stop scaremongering!!!! You're sending people's anxiety through the roof!

Apparently tonight’s announcement is to hold a nationwide raffle to see who gets the dubious pleasure of looking after Ann Widecombe.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/03/2020 20:15

I'm really hoping the reason BJ's doing it at 8.30 tonight is because it's lockdown from midnight and that will give the fuckwits less time to fuck about.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 23/03/2020 20:16

I think its scarier if we don't lock down. I live opposite a park The amount of parents who have taken their kids over today is shocking.
The amount if people still queuing closely in shops is shocking!
Mcdonoalds says it is going to close, people run out to buy one! We are not being sensible, we need to lock down. People are forcing Boris's hand!

lilmishap · 23/03/2020 20:16

I reckon 10 days

At that point we're all going to have voluntarily self isolated because everything, everywhere, will be closed on account of all the sick people.
Lockdown is not the pavement turns into lava, Police shooting people dead on sight or the same as living in North Korea (whatever that is like).
It's still life in the UK, it's boring and the sun will be out for the first few days..so we can all have a bloody good moan about that being unfair. It's a PITA and for some may cost a shit ton. But it's happening and not in Ten fucking days.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/03/2020 20:16

It's scary if you don't. I'm in France, we had over 3000 new cases confirmed today - and note, they only test the risk groups, even if you show up with full blown symptoms. The real number is probably way, way higher. We are exactly following Italy's curve. You are as well. Every day you wait you will kill hundreds of more people in 2 weeks.

midwestspring · 23/03/2020 20:17

@XingMing I think there are a couple of levels of lockdown and essential movement is allowed on all but the most extreme.
Statistically it isn't the odd person moving house causing issues but the thousands hanging out in beaches, parks, high streets, hairdressers etc, etc.
Cutting it down to essential movement only helps a huge amount.

Wheresthebeach · 23/03/2020 20:17

Until the announcement is made you can’t say there won’t be a lockdown! I think there will be - his soft approach has been ignored by too big a section of the population so he now has to do more. He didn’t want to but the percentage of the Uk that are twats was higher than expected so he’s got to act.

BuzzingtheBee · 23/03/2020 20:17

People should be scared

endofthelinefinally · 23/03/2020 20:17

Sorry, posted too soon, I meant to add that we should be doing the same for incoming travellers.

Moomin8 · 23/03/2020 20:18

I hear from someone who works for the Met that lockdown will be announced.

They're asking people to fly home. I think they'll wait two days or so till people get back

Then they will lock down

They can and should quarantine such people even during lockdown. But hey, keep telling yourself that your personal plans are more important that national safety and peoples' lives.

BuyingaHome · 23/03/2020 20:19

@lockthebottle when are you moving?!

Of course, I want people to be safe. I just don't know why we need a formal lock down and people can't stay at home

Tootletum · 23/03/2020 20:19

@FreierFall I would quite like to sleep the next three months. And wake up when people return to a veneer of not wanting to punch/kick/brand/wish death upon people who do something or other they deem unacceptable.

Leithwalk · 23/03/2020 20:20

Some Army personnel on 2 hour standby.

theThreeofWeevils · 23/03/2020 20:21

it scares me how much the majority seems to like authoritarian approaches

Quite. They have been wetting themselves a little bit with excitement for weeks each time they said "lockdown", because it sounds well 'ard; and it is going to be a grand season for that popular mumsnet sport of 'Should I REPORT (slaver, slaver) this?'

endofthelinefinally · 23/03/2020 20:21

Anyone flying here should be isolating for 2 weeks.
They shouldn't need to be told.

grandmasterstitch · 23/03/2020 20:22

@BuyingaHome because people are idiots, that's been made crystal clear over the last 48 hours. Yes in theory we shouldn't need a lock down but people are far too entitled and selfish to follow advice so there's no alternative

BuyingaHome · 23/03/2020 20:22

@Daisiest oh right.... sorry, who told you that that announcement was to lockdown the UK?!

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 23/03/2020 20:22

how little they are interested in differing points of view

None of the 'points of view' of any the fuckwits who decended on tourist attractions, beaches etc by the thousand at the weekend are of any concern to me. They wouldnt know an original opinion if it bit them on the arse. If they need it explained to them in words of one sylable then thats tough cheese. It didnt need to come to this at all. People brought it on themselves.

midwestspring · 23/03/2020 20:23

OP I can only buy groceries, petrol or pharmacy stuff.
I must social distance if out walking the dog.
All non essential businesses are closed.

I could still move house.
I could travel to care for a relative
I can walk my dog outside
I can run by myself outside

The quicker you get to lockdown the lighter the lockdown is going to be.

BuyingaHome · 23/03/2020 20:23

@thethreeofweevils

Agreed. I feel the lockdown excites some people!!! It's lockdown, it's happening, blah blah... !!!! Calm down and stop getting excited.

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 23/03/2020 20:23

I just don't know why we need a formal lock down and people can't stay at home

Well its patently obvious from the weekend that they cant!

LeaveTheBottle · 23/03/2020 20:24

Well who knows? We're at the stage where we should be agreeing on a completion date in the next week or so, but I just can't see it happening.

People haven't been listening to the advice, so that's why a lockdown is the only way.

Oaksquarebox · 23/03/2020 20:24

Nicola Sturgeon is on at 8.45. She’s already spoken today. There must be significant news for her to be speaking again.
