We aren't going to lockdown tonight.

Stop scaremongering.

Maybe at the end of the week or next week. I reckon 10 days. But not tonight.

Even still, you can still go to the supermarket, pharmacy and walk the dog.

Stop scaremongering!!!! You're sending people's anxiety through the roof!

BuyingaHome · 24/03/2020 19:59

@RufustheLanglovingreindeer I nearly left MN all together. People can be quite mean 😥. My own fault I guess... invited it in and all that!

Flowers to @BuyingaHome

The thread did really make me laugh, which lightened the mood a bit I have to say...

Wish you well!

Barracker · 24/03/2020 20:18

Welcome back, buying, and well done for being resilient. Hope you aren't too stressed by the lockdown. Obviously some people were taken more by surprise than others!

You may have inadvertently done everyone a favour. You've somewhat taken the sting out of the word 'scaremongering' which is no bad thing, since it was being flung around so irresponsibly at anyone informed stating factual information.

It's important, I think, for facts to be allowed to stand and for people to have access to them without having their confidence in fact undermined. Especially now.

Anyway, props to you for showing up again.

ssd · 24/03/2020 20:20

This is just what I needed, a thread that's made me laugh. Grin

Sostenueto · 25/03/2020 05:02

We had an Apache gunship flying and hovering above our town yesterday. I thought wtf!? Turns out a school in town 10 miles away is now home for Army troops and an old WW2 airfield is now home for RAF helicopters!!! What's next I wonder!

Mimishimi · 25/03/2020 05:16

Actually that reminds me - a few days before news of all this broke we had army helicopters hovering over our city too.

MyOtherProfile · 25/03/2020 05:24

OP well done. You took the responses on here on the chin and you were brave to come back.

I'm still not asking you for the lottery numbers though Grin

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 06:02

I got it wrong

My respect goes to anybody who can say this openly, OP. And you're very brave to say it on MN!

majesticallyawkward · 25/03/2020 07:26

What's next I wonder!

It's been pretty widely known that the army will be helping with distribution, PPE to hospitals, supplies to vulnerable etc. It's not a conspiracy with martial law sneaking up. well, not yet anyway... who knows what's coming long term if people can't just stay TF home.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 25/03/2020 07:29

Some complete twats in Coventry were caught by the police having a barbecue last night. Over 20 people apparently. 🤬🤬 Makes me rage. My little boy is lonely as hell without his schoolmates and the longer people behave like muppets, the worse the pandemic will be, the longer we will all be stuck in lockdown.

TealWater · 25/03/2020 08:43

No one should threaten the OP, but I think what the OP and some others can't grasp is that people's lives are at stake here. It literally is a matter of life and death. Healthy, strapping, robust men in their 20s and 30s with no underlying illnesses are dying from this. Let that sink in for a moment. I think those like the OP who genuinely thought there would be no lockdown, did not understand how serious this truly is. Those of us who took this seriously were not at all surprised by the lockdown, and expected it. If anything, many of us expected it a lot sooner. The ones who didn't, were ignorant of and in denial of just how serious this is. Maybe now they might take it seriously. But if they took it seriously in the first place, then we wouldn't have needed to get to lockdown stage. All because they simply did not grasp the seriousness of the situation.

When you have family relatives like me who's mother have COPD and almost died from Pneumonia (was going to be put on a ventilator then let to pass away until I said no), and we are told they will be denied a ventilator and only the young people will get one (despite my mother never having took any risks in her entire life and always being very careful, always doing the right thing), and your mother stuck inside will be told tough, well it makes one very, very scared. Very terrified. I am genuinely shit scared. I really am. Not for me, but for my mother. She could die because of someone who just didn't think.

I think as many people as possible need to read these threads, to help them understand what we are up against:

Well done OP for coming back. You're more brave than me. I'd have name-changed and never been heard of again.Grin

eaglejulesk · 26/03/2020 09:34

I have friends who walk so infrequently they'll need to staple their SatNav to their heads to avoid getting lost. But no, they must walk....

Absolutely

A poster on another thread said ‘its only been 24 hours’ in exasperation

Which was a fair comment, but a lot of my friends and i were doing self distancing since the tuesday before, and mostly not going out unless absolutely necessary
