Tesco hour for nhs workers not going as planned!

This is my local Tesco this morning (I did not take the photo). They opened for the first hour for nhs staff and vulnerable. This is what it resulted in!

I am a key worker too, I am struggling to get
Essentials to feed my family. I just can't believe what is happening!

Agreed, this system just doesn't work. Too many non-NHS key workers doing just as many shifts, odd hours, longer hours etc. who also need food as pp have said.

Yes, many NHS workers are more at risk of contracting the virus and it's right that society is looking after those frontline people. But these hours have been set up so those doing the long shifts and odd hours have the chance to buy food and supplies and not worry so much about things being sold out once they get a chance to go to the supermarket. The same can be said for many other people, but we don't get offered the same chances. In fact, I now have less opportunity, because I can't go before work due to it being open for NHS and then elderly/vulnerable only, so have to take my chances after school closes or wait until Saturday and fight with the crowds.

Yes, we need a better system. (Rationing, anyone?)

I think it's very possible that most of those people do work for the NHS. It's the biggest employer. In some areas where there isn't much private sector employment almost everyone has a household member who works for the NHS

Maybe you’re right but imo, it should be for front line staff only. Those actually dealing with patients. I really can’t see why a consultant’s secretary, or anyone else who generally works straightforward office hours should get priority shopping.

@ClientQueen ffs they're just crazy no way would i queue like that all huddled together although I'm worried even more now as some supermarkets are only offering deliveries to elderly/vulnerable customers and not allowing new people to sign up. Its just going to cause more panic buying but I do i this is just temporary whilst they sort themselves out

NHS workers are being treated appallingly.
