Tesco hour for nhs workers not going as planned!

This is my local Tesco this morning (I did not take the photo). They opened for the first hour for nhs staff and vulnerable. This is what it resulted in!

I am a key worker too, I am struggling to get
Essentials to feed my family. I just can't believe what is happening!

Oh my goodness! That's far worse than anything I've seen yet in Tesco! Everyone so close to each other as well..

I’d give it a miss if you can. Though I appreciate in some places people have no choice, but we have a plethora of supermarkets and small shops here and it is possible to get things. Live with a key worker who I am aware will be exposed to a much higher viral load so why anyone would want to be crammed in like this is beyond me.

The big supermarkets need to move to a full click and collect service IMO. With their staff covering this they should be able to deal with hundreds, if not thousands, of orders a day. Plus they can apply strict limits to what can be bought.

DH just went out, thinking it might be easier today. Took one look at the car parks and came home, shopped in our local Coop, which had warned it was low on stocks but had had late scheduled delivery - it was nigh on empty of people and full of food, including elusive packets of spaghetti - he bought one and one only!

We'll probably stick to that and the other local shops now. All our older residents have been stocked up by the running club and Young Farmers. So we should be fine now.

Government should have put everyone into Lockdown Friday. Its been a disaster

They’re going to have to start putting the military in supermarkets soon.

I didn't go, I had no intention of going. I've been getting bare essentials from local shops. I was just so stunned when I saw this photo.

There were tailbacks on the motorway near ours - the police posted on FB to avoid! Queues also outside B&Q too

Nhs cards should of been checked on entry!

Oh. My. God. Recipe for disaster. And not one single person covering their face.

Ds works p/t in a local branch of Waitrose. I went to pick him up at 7pm last night and the place was almost empty, but they had just had a delivery - the first that afternoon - and were starting to put that onto shelves: I spotted pasta and eggs (which I haven't seen anywhere else this week). Might be worth finding out when your local shop has a delivery and trying to time your shopping with that, especially if later in the day. Agree that picture is insane: I had hoped the panic buying would start to dissipate by now - clearly not.

Are they not checking ? Don’t people have to show their Trust ID badge?

So they're mixing vulnerable and staff that are working with the infected, what bright spark thought of that !? They should do what we've done here, 1st hour for over 65, 2 items of any stock per person and 1 item of the likes of toilet roll, pasta etc per person. It's not 100% yet but we can go in any time and there is still food on the shelves, compared to last week when shelves were empty at 9am. Nearly all the supermarkets have taken this on board.

And this is the hour for NHS staff and vulnerable people! Excellent planning there, let's mix the most at risk when the people most likely to catch it!

Our retired neighbour’s children and grandchildren have all just turned up and gone in the house, four car loads of people. People are simply not getting it.

Ours was the same - DP works there so we were allowed to shop earlier along with NHS staff. I stupidly thought it would mean it would be quieter - it was the busiest I have EVER seen it.

Had to queue to get in the car park, queue to get in the store, hardly any stock - people STILL buying more than they needed, people pushing and shoving

I left after ten minutes - no way all those people were meant to be there

That photo just gave me a massive anxiety rush. Madness!

Mixing vulnerable people with NHS staff and a lot of chancers trying to get in at the same time is a recipe for disaster.

I took advantage of this kind offer and went today just for loo paper! Got some at last! Haven’t had any in two days and none ever left in any shops when I finish work late afternoons.

Ours was strictly for nhs staff though. Elderly and vulnerable are given priority on different days. Lots of upset elderly people getting turned away after queuing this morning. Perhaps the terms weren’t explained clearly enough.

Jesus are they stupid, all that spread right there!!!

As NHS staff , I went to my local Tesco this morning. It was very organised. Not at all like that photo.
The queue was single file, all kept appropriate distance between each other. Only allowed in one by one after showing NHS ID.
Staff were at the door with sanitiser and single use cloths for people to wipe the trolley handles.

I didn't see anyone buying vast quantities. Just normal, sensible amounts.

The atmosphere was awful though. So quiet and subdued.

Local Tesco here checked all NHS cards. My sister said they were well stocked and everyone only bought what they needed. Tesco gave all shoppers a bunch of flowers when they were leaving.
