Totally out of his fucking depth

OP posts:

I totally get that alloutoffucks but if people were doing the one or two simple things that were asked of them which was not to gather in groups in pubs, bars and not to panic buy then maybe many more families and vulnerable people would be better protected in their homes.

My DH is now having to self-isolate as he is on the ‘at risk’ list on medical grounds but if one of us bought it into the home (I still have to work) we only have one bathroom and I haven’t been able to get an antibacterial wipe or spray for at least two weeks so I guess we would have to just hope and pray.

Flowers hope you feel better soon alloutoffucks

I can't believe people are trying to say that leaders of Italy and Spain are doing a good job! Have you read accounts of those countries? The Spanish Prime Minister hosting a press conferences when his wife had tested positive. Italian mayor in Lombardy when restrictions came in toasting with an aperitif saying "let's not change our ways" The people too, sharing tapas in Spain. Kissing in the street under lockdown on Wednesday, all off to the beach house etc etc etc.

tobee · 22/03/2020 02:39

Stormz my Dh is one of those too!

tobee · 22/03/2020 02:39

I'm trying to work out what it will mean

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 02:47

Thanks. It does not have to say anti bacterial, any cleaning product for bathrooms is fine.

PotholeParadise · 22/03/2020 02:48

Stormzy, antibacterial doesn't necessarily kill viruses. But anyway, I've just found this site online. They have cleaning products. I have not used the site, so I have no idea if it's any good, but could be worth a try for bleach.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/03/2020 07:39

I know it doesn’t necessarily have to be anti bac (that’s just what I would normally use) but there are no cleaning products of any description, not even a J cloth, in the supermarkets near me.

Thanks for the link Pothole.

A classic example of what Johnson isn't doing.......

atm everyone is telling him that people will pour out of the cities and into our rural locations both for Mothers Day and the forthcoming easter holidays...... just as they have done in Italy & Spain, so we know what will happen IF we don't act!!!

Johnson's response is to "advise people not to travel" No one is going to take a blind bit of notice and the virus will spread into areas with almost zero NHS capacity.

Its not a question of whether other leaders are doing a better job or not, its about learning and sharing the experiences of others and Bojo isn't doing that, he has even refused to get involved in any EU initiatives.....

Had we reacted in the same way China has, we would now be seeing a decline in infections and within a month we'd be coming out of lock down but what did we do patted ourselves on the back that we are the worlds best at tracking infections and allowed anyone returning from china and Italy to wander about with impunity

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 07:52

Johnson has made mistakes but no Western country has done what China did. I doubt it’s possible we have different living situation and technology (we chat there).

This thread is very interesting.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 08:09

My SiL is Chinese, she cannot believe our complete lack of inaction.

Johnson is now shifting the blame to us!!! its our fault now!!!
Perhaps if he'd taken this threat a little more seriously instead of "its a mild illness, take it on the chin and its ok to shake hands" perhaps the population would of as well?

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 08:10

Of course she can’t.

More interesting are places like Taiwan and South Korea but they were more prepared after previous threats.

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 08:20

Yes decent leaders learn from others mistakes. Deaths are going to rise exponentially now. If I fear we are going to have more deaths than any european country, Boris will go after all this.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 08:21

I think Trump will and knows it. Going from hoax to where he is now.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 08:53

Marsha - we also had the knowledge and the diseases of Swine and Bird flu, the world has also had flu pandemics in 1957 and 1968 which killed millions.
Plus we had about 6 weeks head start on China and did SFA.

Added to this, we were also told we'd stockpiled medical equipment for Brexit.... apparently not as deliveries of PPE only done in last few days, even now NHS staff not being tested, just told to stay home for 14 days, its undefensible.

Agree, allout we will see huge increases in preventable deaths but Johnson did say he'd sort out adult social care!

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 09:01

It doesn’t matter. Taiwan put in central systems before it started, so that means we would have had to put money towards the same mid Brexit madness with no indication it was necessary.

The previous threat makes it real and makes people act. No Western country did.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 09:02

As for PPE yes put under glaring mistake.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 09:06

I’m not saying there weren’t and aren’t big fuck ups but expecting a Western country to be the same as China or Taiwan is unrealistic. We’re all in the same boat.

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 09:08

I am still amazed that only now are ex NHS staff being contacted.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 09:08

That guy from Brighton infected 5 or 6 people in early february, we did nothing, just a few billion would have got us more testing kits more PPE more ventilators.... instead we did nothing.

So we close the pubs but allowing full on queuing in supermarkets, parks, beaches...... BBC suggesting we go out for a walk but keep your distance... fuckin irresponsible.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 09:11

The measures in France and Italy are now the same as China had but weeks too late...... We will be the same too and history will wonder why we didn't act earlier.

tobee · 22/03/2020 09:14

I agree with Marsha re previous experience of SARS for Asian population. It's something they directly experienced not long ago.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 09:19

We had a swine flu outbreak in 2009. min 110k cases, did we learn nothing?

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 09:21

No we did not learn, because not enough died here for us to take it seriously. That will change after this.

millymae · 22/03/2020 09:26

The problem with Boris is that the persona he’s cultivated over many years starting at school when he changed his name is doing him no favours at all now. His ridiculous hair adds to his unconventional bumbling buffoon image as does his often loose tongue and his use of big words and catchphrases. When he stands at the podium he looks as though it’s the last place he wants to be.
What the country needs now is a Prime Minister with some gravitas who can cut the crap and speak concisely using words that everyone can understand. Most importantly he needs to look as though he means what he says.
A lot of people aren’t taking things seriously because what he says is not immediately clear and he looks as though he’s not taking it seriously himself. His jack the lad image may have suited him in the past but it’s doing him no favours at all now.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 09:31

Doctor on Marr show saying few or no beds, wards full of CV patients and despite govt reassurances, no PPE equipment and as public transport cut, staff being put at risk, ill patients going into taxis and no cleaning of these vehicles.......

Another Dr says 5000 doctors have written to PM to tell him they are being treated like Canon fodder and GPs have zero PPE....... and PPE provided is not up to standard.

...but Boris is doing a great job...... jeez!
