Totally out of his fucking depth

OP posts:
LondonLass61 · 21/03/2020 19:34

Did I miss a press conference update today?

gamerchick · 21/03/2020 21:26

Well if you did, I did. All I got was a very very old football match.

It was twilight zone music territory.

Leeah · 21/03/2020 21:33

Jesus! Give the man a break. Look what’s been achieved so far. He’s probably knackered, he’s still a human being.

But then saying that people were complaining schools were open then complaining they were closing.

The Measures he’s asking people to take still aren’t being done.

Everyone just wants to take a pop at him, I very much doubt many people could do his job without criticism right now.

boobingtonsmythe · 21/03/2020 21:35

All I keep seeing on my FB feed is people posting the meme about BJ being the PM we all needed at this time, authoritative, reassuring, statesmanlike. Hardly fucking Churchill, is he? Blundering fool. Worst speaker I've ever heard. I despair. Probably need different FB friends...

gamerchick · 21/03/2020 21:45

NO, I won't give the man a break. HE WANTED the job. He thought it his destiny. He can suck it the fuck up.

I wanted reassurance and I got a load of Kevin keegans running about kicking a fucking ball.

Hmm

Give him a break indeed!

Leeah · 21/03/2020 21:50

The man looks totally knackered. He’s got a lot to sort out, just give him time to do this.

What exactly do people want?

StormzyinaTCup · 21/03/2020 22:08

He may be a bumbling fool (to some) but it's also very unfortunate for him that he is PM in a country where a large proportion of the population can't understand a simple instruction and are therefore a bunch of bumbling f**king idiots.

Oakmaiden · 21/03/2020 22:13

just give him time to do this

We don;t really have a lot of time....

jasjas1973 · 21/03/2020 22:17

What exactly do people want?

Leadership? Clear decision making?
www.buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/10-days-that-changed-britains-coronavirus-approach

The UK had a head start on this and have squandered it... on the herd immunity idea and BJ's reluctance to act quickly and assemble a competent team around him.
Personally, i'd like to have seen some labour MPs bought in, Starmer, Cooper perhaps.

Leeah · 21/03/2020 22:19

Maybe people should start to listen to the guidance he’s already given before jumping on that high horse!

Alsohuman · 21/03/2020 22:20

What exactly do people want?

Clear instructions, sanctions if they’re not obeyed, leadership, inspiration. Rishi Sunak was a million times more statesmanlike yesterday. He shone a blinding light on Johnson’s ineptitude.

alloutoffucks · 21/03/2020 22:51

People don't understand what they need to do. Social distancing, social isolation - who can go for a walk and who has to stay in the house.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 23:01

George Eustice took the press conference today. His inevitable nickname is well-deserved. He repeated the totally lame 'advice' to panic buyers to be more considerate. So that's all sorted then, ffs

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 21/03/2020 23:04

@boobingtonsmythe that’s the best post I’ve read so far on MN

Leeah · 21/03/2020 23:05

From what I understand he’s asking people to

  1. Wash your hands regularly
  2. Practice social distancing (if you can take a step back whilst queuing etc. Do so)
  3. Elderly/vulnerable to isolate (I admit is hard as online orders are not being completed, or waiting too long due to selfish panic buyers)
  4. Schools are off apart from key workers ( this has been published on the gov website) at least my childminder has this it appears everyone is a key worker apart from the unemployed though
  5. You can exercise/leave your home but keeping your distance
  6. No large groups/gatherings
  7. Limit contact with people

I expect Monday or soon after he will close non essential retailers

StarbucksSmarterSister · 21/03/2020 23:13

Give the man a break. Look what’s been achieved so far.

What has he achieved? Wasting time because he and Cummings went for the theory of herd immunity. If we'd stuck with that, it is estimated 250,000 would die.

I'm sure he's stressed, etc but so is every other PM in Europe and they all seem far more competent. Also he can hardly be under the amount of pressure the Italians are where 800 people died in the last 24 hours.

This is not an anti Tory thing because if Margaret Thatcher was PM I'd feel happier although I loathed her, because she was competent. Johnson is dithering.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 23:13

Leeah the list you posted only emphasises how weak the 'advice' is

Leeah · 21/03/2020 23:15

People can’t even manage to do this though can they?

As far as I can see now the only difference between us & Europe is lockdown. Other countries have the same list but also lockdown. Unless I’ve missed something. Happy to be corrected

Oakmaiden · 21/03/2020 23:17

I missed the press conference today - didn't realise it was earlier than normal. I understand BJ was conspicuous in his absence?

Has anyone ever seen him at a weekend? It is bizarre.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 23:18

He is more stressed than other leaders because he is incompetent, lazy and stupid. Also his personal life is a mess and he's being investigated for possible misconduct in public office so that doesn't help.

People who knew him warned repeatedly during the leadership campaign and the GE that he was not fit to hold the office of PM and he has proved them right ever since.

alloutoffucks · 21/03/2020 23:19

@leeah No advice is different if you have cough or temperature. Do not go out house at all. People think they can go walks with social distancing when no. They need to live in different room to family. i am in one room. That is it. No one to come in at all.

nopointinstaying · 21/03/2020 23:21

Looks like the contributors to this thread... have a serious dose of sour grapes

alloutoffucks · 21/03/2020 23:21

We are supposed to pretend they have not done a u turn.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 23:21

People can’t even manage to do this though can they?

That's what I was trying to say - they aren't doing it because the 'advice' is so weakly disseminated. Other leaders speak clearly. They speak with authority, they communicate the seriousness of the situation, the urgency to take action. Johnson has proved incapable of doing that.
