Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

OP posts:
Fairineouf · 18/03/2020 22:50

SoupDragon - Indeed. Then I wouldn't have to make a 5 hour round trip to fetch DS2. Straight down to J7 and bam! 45 mins tops.

But what if the virus gets in there with you - we all know what happened to Jeff Goldblum in The Fly Shock.

JaceLancs · 18/03/2020 22:52

I think London lock down this Friday
Rest of uk a week or so later

johnwayneisbigleggy · 18/03/2020 22:52

And what about people who have relatives that they care for - will we be able to go and see to them?

Laks0007 · 18/03/2020 22:52

I was living in Poland and lockdown became a reality very quickly. We heard rumours - then had 30 hours to stay rf go as everything began shutting down. A matter of hours not days.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 18/03/2020 22:52

It's a shame people haven't been sensible. We only need a lockdown because so many are still ignoring this.

This is so true. I had to go into work today. The company as a whole has gone into work from home mode but I was told I had to go in. I went into town to get some lunch and it was just as busy as a normal Saturday afternoon.

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 22:53

So what happens about seeing a partner? Call me blonde but if you see them at yours some of the week and theirs some of the week but not all the time because of shift work etc what happens? Do you have to just not see them?

I guess. Unless you move in together for the duration. Which would probably be a BAD idea...

BanningTheWordNaice · 18/03/2020 22:53

I was in Madrid and noticed police prowling Thursday night and the museums were shut but parks and theme parks were going to be open, (shockingly no the theme park wasn’t open Friday haha!)c Friday they said they would shut restaurants and bars but shut them that evening, Saturday they started to disperse people and shut parks and by Sunday you were stopped by police if out walking. But people survived. Stop stirring panic, if it happens, it happens.

johnwayneisbigleggy · 18/03/2020 22:56

Moving in isn't an option. I know it's pretty unimportant right now in the grand scheme of things but it just adds to the knot in my stomach. Not great when I have anxiety and chronic panic :(

Sky news just now:

Lockdown Rumours
Umberellaellaella · 18/03/2020 22:58

@Sharpandshineyteeth key workers children are the children of NHS and emergency services workers who will need to be working so wont be able to be off with their children, vulnerable children will be children under social services etc who will be worse off at home all day than in school or in some cases more than worse off 😥, most schools will only have a few children who fall into these categories so will likely be ran by skeleton staff.

kirinm · 18/03/2020 23:01

What will count as London? Do we think it'll be central London or zone 1, 2, 3 or how far out?

I'm in zone 2 so quite interested in the answer Grin

Nogoodnickname · 18/03/2020 23:01

It is logical to do a lockdown, but I do hope it doesn’t happen in the way the media has portrayed, i.e- London is to be in lockdown first. This will cause people to flee to second homes in other parts of the country, just like Italy did, that aren’t and therefore cause an even larger spread of the virus. and we end up in a worse position than Italy. I think if a lockdown is to be proposed, then it needs to be the whole of the U.K. rather than one area to prevent people fleeing that place, and to also try and avoid a crisis that is going on in Italy-although I fear it’s already too late with the govt dawdling along and not taking this pandemic seriously.

Kraejka · 18/03/2020 23:01

I'm in Austria. Last Wednesday we were told the schools would shut this Monday.
Then on Thursday or Friday we were told ski resorts closing on Sunday and all hotels on Monday and all tourists to leave the country. Then we were told all shops/restaurants bars etc would be shutting from Monday. Restaurants could open until 3 pm but that was quickly changed.
On Saturday the Chancellor made a sort of statement saying there are only three reasons to leave the house 1) work that can't be done from home 2) purchase of food/medicines 3) helping those who can't help themselves.
On Sunday we were told this again but this time officially and that it would be enforced by the police. We are allowed out for a walk but only alone or with the people you live with.
Since then individual villages and valleys with the most cases have been quarantined.
It all happened very fast and there was an announcement each day with tougher measures each time.
Borders also closed but I can't remember now when that happened.

20000 troops on standby Daily Mail

DDayDoris · 18/03/2020 23:02

In the Daily Mail now.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8128303/Britain-ready-deploy-20-000-troops-streets-hospitals-tackle-coronavirus-pandemic.html?ito=push-notification&ci=10760&si=3153423

It's a rag, but it's reporting on this pandemic has been pretty accurate.

DDayDoris · 18/03/2020 23:04

Army deployed "to assist" ...

To assist people in not going to the pub, coffee shop, gym etc, no doubt. Because some seem unable to understand this.

Plantlover101 · 18/03/2020 23:05

That pic upload didn't work so here is the info on Sky News: Reporter Kate McCann: "Whitehall sources: Most shops could close in London by the weekend under plans being considered in Govt. Transport restricted to key workers such as nurses, police etc. Pharmacies and supermarkets to remain open. No fines for people outside their homes. But aim is to slow down spread of virus in London. Nothing definite as yet but this conversation is taking place in Whitehall."

That's why other countries shut all of these places. If the places are open then people aren't going to understand why they shouldn't go to them.
But I do think people will need assistance to "understand" what lockdown means when it eventually comes and that they can't go out and congregate in large groups.

QueenofDestruction · 18/03/2020 23:07

AutumnRose, nobody in Spain can go for a walk alone let alone in a pair. You can only walk somewhere alone for 1 of the allowed reasons e.g going to the food shop. Walking for exercise of for leisure is not allowed. You can also only walk your dog out for his toilet no actual dog walk for exercise is allowed.

IDSNeighbour · 18/03/2020 23:08

How would they achieve this outside of the towns and cities? I live in a tiny village. 2 minutes walk from my house I can start walking and not meet another human for miles. How would I be prevented from doing that?

Lockdown scares me far more than coronavirus does. I can imagine coping if you have family but I don't. I live on my own and have mental health problems. I am relatively introverted and have social anxiety but I do at least need some human contact and reasons to get up in the morning. I have friends in the same position and we had planned to meet up in pairs occasionally for walks and visits. That was the one mildly bright spot in a world where everything has started to feel pointless and hopeless. The loneliness is going to be crippling.

OldQueen1969 · 18/03/2020 23:08

Anyone else sick of the governmental drip feed via the media and just wishing they'd bloody get on with it?? Watching Sky news now, and yes, have heard from someone with a relative in the military who has intimated this Is real. Not a gossiper nor sensationalist by any means, so have no reason to doubt them........

I’ve heard from a reliable source (my sisters friends brothers cousins uncle twice removed’s dads granny’s friend’s brothers housekeepers dog walkers sisters auntie works for parliament) that from 1400hrs tomorrow we will all be given our very own army man to stand outside your house and not let you leave without patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time for 42 second while doing a carefully selected covid-19 dance. They’ve swapped their guns and grenades for thermometers and paracetamols.

WTF0ver · 18/03/2020 23:11

I really hope not. My husband is due to immigrate here this weekend, we're trying to find out what happens should his flights be cancelled or anything. Stress.

MinkowskisButterfly · 18/03/2020 23:13

I thought this weekend was when the 70+ and vulnerable categories had to isolate for 12 weeks, not an actual lockdown?
