Lockdown Rumours

Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

No need to be snippy.

No need to lose your sense of humour.

Youngatheart00 · 18/03/2020 22:29

The teleportation chamber bit actually made me laugh!! Smile

Marieo · 18/03/2020 22:29

@ACertainSupermarket can you take a baby out if limited to one person? DH is deployed and neighbours are largely elderly and poorly so I won't be able to leave even for essentials.

rumandbiscuits · 18/03/2020 22:30

I have heard this. A friend of a friend is a reserve for the army and this is the rumour. Apparently they will be announcing it tomorrow but it's rumoured London will go into lock down first.

ACertainSupermarket · 18/03/2020 22:32

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Except for trains, if you wish to get past the M25, can you do it without going onto/under/over it?
I might be wrong of course, but I don't think that enclosing people within the M25 is quite what a London lockdown means! I think it would be the same principles of lockdown as will happen elsewhere but it's more urgent there due to the higher population density and the reliance on public transport and tourism element - all vectors for quicker disease spread.

Maybe I just need to give myself a grip. It's been a frazzled day. A teleportation chamber would be canny right about now that's for sure.

MulticolourMophead · 18/03/2020 22:33

why do those who don't think there'll be a lockdown think that?

My stupid brother thinks it's all a storm in a teacup, and just media scaremongering. Twat

Snorkelface · 18/03/2020 22:33

I have friends in France - they have a form to fill out and have to pick one of the allowed options to explain where they're going in case they get stopped by police. All the supermarkets are fully stocked so there's no panic, just boredom (and friends are all safe and well)

This is a link about the form they're using in France......

We're in lockdown here.supermarkets are still open, there are just restrictions. No Army presence, just people being sensible. If you have to go to work, you still can. If you are an essential worker your kids can go to school to be looked after.

Roussette · 18/03/2020 22:33

@AutumnRose1

Do you mean here? I don't know how they will handle lockdown here. But I do know about Spain. And I'm sorry if you mean Spain, you can't walk with your Mum. They are stringent not allowing 2 people out together and dishing out fines.

Here... it might be different.
Sorry...

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 22:34

Maybe a long piece of stripy police tape will go up round the M25

Plantlover101 · 18/03/2020 22:34

Just watching Sky news now - military being enlisted for a special Covid-19 Force. Switch on the TV now and watch it!

SoupDragon · 18/03/2020 22:35

A teleportation chamber would be canny right about now that's for sure.

Indeed. Then I wouldn't have to make a 5 hour round trip to fetch DS2. Straight down to J7 and bam! 45 mins tops.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 18/03/2020 22:36

@liberoncolours Thank you, yes we could but he has care responsibilities so I can't see how it could happen Sad
But! Blitz spirit and all that. We will get through it. There are so many ways of staying in contact, I'll just miss his hugs.

Plantlover101 · 18/03/2020 22:37

Sky reporter says military being drafted in to free up police.

Excited101 · 18/03/2020 22:39

I’m a nanny, I think I’m still expected to go in, in lockdown. Statutory sick pay will cover about a third of my rent and the family I work for seem to think my house and theirs counts and ‘lock down’. Am I an ‘essential worker’?

KoalasandRabbit · 18/03/2020 22:41

Thought the North-South Circular was closer to London area the M25 though not a London road expert. Closing either would probably prove quite effective combined with blockades to stop people leaving via the other routes. You could probably just allow essential deliveries and emergency services. Hope it's not M25 tomorrow night as we need to get back to other house to turn water off if not allowed there for a few months and supposed to be working tomorrow.

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 22:43

I’ve got a friend in Spain
this guy is giving good updates on Spain (imo)

JudyCoolibar · 18/03/2020 22:45

Why would they go to the trouble of talking about schooling key workers children and vulnerable children if they are planning a lockdown. It doesn’t make sense

Why? There is no reason why a lockdown shouldn't comprise arrangements for key workers' children to be taken to and from school. How else are we supposed to free up key workers from childcare responsibilities?

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 22:46

London lockdown next week.

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 22:46

certain groups of people living in London will try to escape to their 2nd homes in the country before the lockdown....and then we'll be Italy:(

StormBaby · 18/03/2020 22:47

My eldest stepson, (from my first marriage, is he still a stepchild?) is an economist at a global city bank in London, and he told me a few days ago they'd been advised it would be Friday.

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 22:48

I thought a lot were already at their 2nd homes as there was a rumour last weekend

squiglet111 · 18/03/2020 22:49

I assume it will mean restaurant, bars, public transport, jobs unless essential close? Ban on gatherings etc

We live in South London but will be moving out of London in under 2 weeks time. Very worried now that we won't be able to leave!just want to go from one home to the other! Hope we still can!

johnwayneisbigleggy · 18/03/2020 22:50

So what happens about seeing a partner? Call me blonde but if you see them at yours some of the week and theirs some of the week but not all the time because of shift work etc what happens? Do you have to just not see them?
