To think Tom Hanks is insensitive

Talking about having "blah" days after his quick recovery. I'm pleased he and his wife are on the mend but not all of us will have the luxury of lazing around in £ million plus beach front multi room houses. The reality for most who get the virus will be nothing like.

OP, you're nuts. I'm interested in hearing about how people are coping with this novel virus, because we're all going to get it too. I don't think I'm alone.

MrKlaw · 18/03/2020 11:58

The more people that can share relatively normal stories about mild symptoms and recovery, the better. Yes this is a dangerous virus but its being hugely demonised right now and a bit of reassurance for many us can help

NewBrideToBe · 18/03/2020 12:01

YABU

Illness and disease is a leveller and TH could have been mortally affected. That he wasn’t is excellent news and a ray of hope for lots of people who are terrified of getting it.

This Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate between the rich and poor

WhatTheFronti · 18/03/2020 12:03

He was quarantined at Gold Coast university hospital - a public hospital. I believe he was quarantined by the gov. I don't think it was a voluntarily situation.
The only thing offensive about this situation is the absolute Insanity of his heavy handed Vegemite application!

Quit sucking on sour grapes...

I saw a guy in Dublin being interviewed and he was asked how people were coping and he said it is the same for everyone, we are all the same. I think one of the sad things about the British response is the "othering" of people, they are over 60, they are vulnerable and now they are rich. I suppose it isn't surprising divide and conquer was always a British tactic.

LaCherriesJubilee · 18/03/2020 12:10

What is a blah day?

He said something about needing to lie down after doing the dishes, so he and Rita are still probably quite weak.

PineappleDanish · 18/03/2020 12:13

I would really like to hear many many more of these positive recovery stories, particularly from ordinary people. I think that would be so reassuring.

A very good friend of mine and her family - DH, two uni student sons and 14 year old daughter - all have it at the moment. Well, we're assuming they have it as they are not ill enough to be tested. They are all at home, not feeling great but certainly not ill enough to be in hospital. Symptoms started over the weekend, texted her this morning and she thinks they're all on the mend today.

There will be THOUSANDS of stories like this from ordinary people living ordinary lives and just getting through it without fanfare or NHS intervention.

There have been a few threads on here asking if anyone has/has had the virus and what it is like, yet when someone who happens to be famous is kind enough to go public and let people know what its like the moaners come out. There really is no pleasing some people. I for one am glad to read accounts of people who are in recovery and doing well.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 18/03/2020 12:17

I agree that money can buy you the very best healthcare in the world so how dare rich people such as Tom Hanks feel anxiety over their own health. I mean, immense wealth worked well for Steve Jobs didn't it?

Hmm
nannybeach · 18/03/2020 12:37

Yes, its a comfort to know that people over 60 can get the virus and be pretty much OK. All the reports of people intervieing Tom Hanks, say, hes one of the nicest blokes on the planet. Hes never been associated with drugs, booze or cheating on his wife.

AudacityOfHope · 18/03/2020 16:09

Well he cheated on his first wife with his second though Grin

Alsohuman · 18/03/2020 16:27

Well he cheated on his first wife with his second though

What’s that got to do with the price of fish?

AudacityOfHope · 18/03/2020 17:03

It was a reply to the post above that says he's never cheated.

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 18/03/2020 18:27
Hmm

The reality for most of us who get the virus will be a few days of feeling rotten, drinking a lot of water, taking paracetamol or something like (not Ibuprofen), then getting better. No different for rich or poor and home surroundings are usually comfortable regardless of status. The only people who will have serious concerns are those who are immunocompromised, most will be ok before long.

Tom Hanks is the same as anyone else.

HappydaysArehere · 20/03/2020 09:57

I think he was trying to minimise the experience so as not to add to panic.
