To think Tom Hanks is insensitive

Talking about having "blah" days after his quick recovery. I'm pleased he and his wife are on the mend but not all of us will have the luxury of lazing around in £ million plus beach front multi room houses. The reality for most who get the virus will be nothing like.

OP posts:
MeganBacon · 18/03/2020 11:19

YABU. I think he is probably only trying to reassure people, given the levels of worry, that you can get through it okay, and why not?

AudacityOfHope · 18/03/2020 11:19

The next sentence is about how even a small task makes him really tired.

Really wasting your energy making shit up out of context.

To think Tom Hanks is insensitive
Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 11:20

Tom hanks is a nice guy and has given millions of people pleasure with his films over the years. He's entitled to feel blah after a scary illness

This. Some people really need to let go of all the bitterness in their lives.

Yogawoogie · 18/03/2020 11:22

So if your house is nicer than mine I should feel bad towards you?
I’m ok. I’m happy being me.

MorganKitten · 18/03/2020 11:22

So someone posted that not hearing updates from people with it is annoying... so now hearing people are getting better is annoying?

LellyMcKelly · 18/03/2020 11:23

I’m really glad he’s on the mend and able to share his story even if he is feeling blah. It is really important that we see people getting better. It gives us all a bit of hope that we’re not doomed if we get it.

PennyNotSoWise · 18/03/2020 11:23

So much bitterness about what he can afford. The man's fucking earned it Hmm

He was just updating his followers. Tom Hanks is literally the least offensive person I can think of in the world, I can't believe the shit people get offended by.

KaptenKrusty · 18/03/2020 11:26

fucking hell! hahahaha LOLZ

bringincrazyback · 18/03/2020 11:27

The guy's entitled to tell his story and share his feelings just like the rest of us are. YABU.

tempester28 · 18/03/2020 11:28

Never say anything bad about Tom Hanks! It is good to here other people's experience regardless of wealth.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 18/03/2020 11:28

I don't care about Tom Hanks as an individual; I am glad to hear of every recovery there is because, well, don't we all want recovery rates to be high?

PennyNotSoWise · 18/03/2020 11:29

So what if a huge ego with more money than sense in a sickly unequal world got the flu and got better?
Ha, thanks for the laugh. If it's only "the flu", why are you worried about your REAL PEOPLE?

Damn, it must be horrible being that fucking bitter inside.

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2020 11:30

I personally find it reassuring to hear from a relatively trustworthy source that they’re recovering ‘normally’.

Blah could be anything from feeling run down to sick of the sight of their own walls. It doesn’t matter how fancy your walls are they’re still walls. Never heard of a gilded cage?

1forsorrow · 18/03/2020 11:35

This might be shocking to some but I have to say it. Tom Hanks is a real person.

MLMsuperfan · 18/03/2020 11:41

I adore Tom Hanks and won't hear a word against him.

His kind and cheerful message is exactly what I would expect from him.

TellMeWhoTheVilliansAre · 18/03/2020 11:45

So what if a huge ego with more money than sense in a sickly unequal world got the flu and got better?

I don't know much about him, except that I've never not enjoyed a film that he's been in (except maybe "Road to Perdition" - I fell asleep so can't comment with certainty).

But from what I've seen of him in interviews, he comes across as "normal". As normal as someone who is very very good at a job that is in the public eye can be.

Have you examples of him being a huge ego? And examples of times he has shown himself to have more money than sense?

I'm genuinely interested, as I said other than occasional interviews that I see him doing I wouldn't know a whole lot about him and don't see him as one who usually courts the media.

Peachbubble · 18/03/2020 11:46

Hardly boasting though, is he? How could you get so worked up about this?

Everanewbie · 18/03/2020 11:50

PeninsulaPanic you are very hateful. Hanx is his sign off on social media. I am not crawling up his arse, as you so delightfully wrote, I am just pleased that someone who is known to many (apologies if you did not like my grammar, actually screw you, it was good enough to be understood) was sharing their experiences that may help to eleviate fear and panic to some degree. Especially as he is generally well liked and seen to many as a voice of decency, even if you don't like him.

CamillaBeauchamp · 18/03/2020 11:51

YABU

Frenchw1fe · 18/03/2020 11:52

@paintedsmile77 you can’t call Tom Hanks smug.
His voice just melts my heart.

Tootletum · 18/03/2020 11:52

Oh great so now we've arrived at criticising sick people for their subjective experience of sickness. Wow.

Willow2017 · 18/03/2020 11:54

People are offended that people with health problems already are recovering from this?
"Blah days" could mean pretty crappy days but he doesnt need to go into details of his health! He still has the same health problems, fears and emotions as the rest of us. The fact he isnt weeping and wailing and ranting at the world for making him ill is pissing people off??
Threads on here asking where all the sick people are and why arent they on SM all day updating 'me' on thier condition and when they do they are doing it wrong!

Christ people are going from one extreme to the other. Some "its the end of the world because all over 60s will die and the rest of us will have to rebuild society. Its all too horrible, no good news at all."
To.
"Someone in a vulnerable group is recovering without needing life saving intensive care. Thats not what i want to hear how dare he?!"

Theres just no pleasing people.

countrygirl99 · 18/03/2020 11:55

There are some very bitter people on this thread. They might do well to remember they aren't the only ones with frail family members or who are losing their income due to this. That's not the reason they are bitter and some of us are pleased to see other people recovering.

AnneOfCloves · 18/03/2020 11:55

Jeez, Tom Hanks is lovely, Rita Wilson is lovely and why on earth would you find his tweet insensitive?

Who do you want to criticise next, David Atternborough?

Chloemol · 18/03/2020 11:57

YABU. He has had the virus and is now recovering and he saying how he feels. The fact he is doing it from a large house is irrelevant
