To think Tom Hanks is insensitive

Talking about having "blah" days after his quick recovery. I'm pleased he and his wife are on the mend but not all of us will have the luxury of lazing around in £ million plus beach front multi room houses. The reality for most who get the virus will be nothing like.

OP posts:

Marie Antoinette !

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2020 09:25

I think you’re a bit over sensitive.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/03/2020 09:27

YABU
He is in his 60’s so was at higher risk. It’s good if some actual experiences of what having this virus means get out.

I am coming to the conclusion that many of these Covid-19 threads are people externalising their understandable worry about the virus. People are finding something to be Angry or upset about because they are scared.

Worriedmum54321 · 18/03/2020 09:28

What is a blah day?

Mrsjayy · 18/03/2020 09:30

Just because he has a lovely beach front house doesn't mean he wasn't ill yes we live in gloomier times but try and not be bitter his money and lifestyle didn't give a guaranteed recovery.

AgentPrentiss · 18/03/2020 09:30

YABU.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/03/2020 09:31

YABU, just because he is a well known weathly guy does not mean he can't have blah days, whatever they are. He's a person like you or I, it must have been pretty scary for him and his wife, where he gets to "laze around" is irrelevant.

YangShanPo · 18/03/2020 09:31

It's great news some people in the high risk category are recovering so well, but hopefully their high profile won't lead people to assume everyone will be the same and start taking unnecessary risks or ignoring advice.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 18/03/2020 09:31

And out come the professionally offended...

maa1992 · 18/03/2020 09:32

He might not want to induce panic, a lot of people follow him so he might want to reassure people that he's okay, just feeling blah (which I took as feeling a bit crappy)

Darcydashwood · 18/03/2020 09:33

He also has diabetes so is doubley at risk.

IntermittentParps · 18/03/2020 09:33

He is in his 60’s so was at higher risk.

This exactly. So he's got a nice house. So what?
People can be really fucking bitter.

saoirse31 · 18/03/2020 09:34

How can that possibly offend you? I really dont get it...

Cheeseandwin5 · 18/03/2020 09:34

I never understand comments like the OP's
Yes you may feel he is being sensitive, but there are many ppl who would love to be in your position, are you not being insensitive to them?
We can all just speak about our own experiences and beliefs. This is Tom Hank's so let him get on with it.

thepeopleversuswork · 18/03/2020 09:35

YABU. He was the first seriously high profile person to be confirmed as having it and has a huge fan base. He's also in a high-risk category.

For him and his wife to provide updates indicating they are on the mend is just a way to reassure people which I think is how they are approaching it.

He is vastly wealthy and can't really be expected to pretend he's worried about his financial future.

goldpartyhat · 18/03/2020 09:35

Tom hanks is a nice guy and has given millions of people pleasure with his films over the years. He's entitled to feel blah after a scary illness.

Everanewbie · 18/03/2020 09:35

Yes YABU. We have very little to be positive about at the moment, and the story of a likeable man who we all know contracting, identifying, and hopefully by the looks of things recovering from the virus, will be helpful to many.

We hear a lot, and rightly so, about the most serious cases. But for a fair chunk of people, recovering from this illness will be mundane, and somewhat of an anti-climax. We need those people to follow the advice, not panic by calling 999/111 and not storming into A&E.

Cheers Hanx, I appreciate your updates. I hope you and your wife continue to do well.

WorraLiberty · 18/03/2020 09:37

YABU, people are allowed to have 'blah' days no matter what sort of property they live in.

Ponoka7 · 18/03/2020 09:37

Very little seemed to be made of them spending five days in hospital, before isolation. Him, as a multi millionaire, his stay in the private hospital won't compare in anyway to the stay the rest of us will have, that's even if we get the luxury of seeing a health professional. He also has regular, thorough check ups, so no unknown heart etc issues, as well a private ambulance with back up medical staff, on call.

People in his age group were just being found at home, dead. We don't need people to become complacent, by listening to these accounts.

saoirse31 · 18/03/2020 09:39

So no one who wants to say anything positive should speak monika?.....

saoirse31 · 18/03/2020 09:40

Poneeka7 even

ittakes2 · 18/03/2020 09:40

I have also taken comfort knowing that someone in a high risk group is ok. Of course his fans want to know he is ok.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 18/03/2020 09:40

He's also diabetic. Yes, he's been lucky enough to receive excellent health care but I think it's nice to have a first hand account of what it was like. I'm glad he and his wife are recovering.

HillAreas · 18/03/2020 09:41

Tom Hanks is a global treasure.

YABU.

Mrsjayy · 18/03/2020 09:41

Well yes he was in a private hospital because well he is a rich actor nobody is going to be going skipping down the streets because they saw tom hanks on facebook. A little bit of good news will never hurt anybody.
