Where are all the people with Coronavirus?

I'm just wondering because we have social media etc etc these days and as yet, I haven't seen any just regular people with the virus who can tell us exactly what it's like? I'm amazed there hasn't been hundreds of accounts

Does it always present with a fever?

Mintjulia · 17/03/2020 23:48

Given the spectacular ignorance of some people, I’m not surprised sufferers are being discrete. They won’t want their kids bullied or their houses vandalised.

KoalasandRabbit · 17/03/2020 23:50

I've seen a few people on social media claiming to have it but not tested. One of them was told almost certain they have it by health professionals, the other was told it wouldn't be it but keep insisting it is. Annoyingly the latter one then keeps insisting it's just like a cold or flu. Grin

At DDs old school in London child at it told her 5 kids have tested positive and 2 teachers in isolation - school is still open. Don't personally know anyone with it. I've got a bad cough and fever but that's just the season for it. We are rural so probably less likely here as nowhere's very crowded.

KoalasandRabbit · 17/03/2020 23:52

The Abel's only got a fever very late on in it. First it was just like your average cough you wouldn't normally think twice about.

MigginsMrs · 17/03/2020 23:55

I am convinced I had it at the end of January/beginning of Feb. Dog rough, horrendous cough, fever, asthma exacerbated as a result. I was in bed for 2 days but felt ok after a week. If it wasnt CV it was pretty close

I have wondered this too, loads of us were ill at work. I have a history of sore throats and I had a sore throat like I have never had before, nothing soothed it, I couldn’t eat or drink much, all I could tolerate was warm water, anything else stung like crazy. I got a bit better then about 6 days later I had flu type symptoms for a week. But then my husband and kids didn’t get it so probably just wishful thinking

lljkk · 17/03/2020 23:58

There's a tool to look up cases in your area.

3 cases in my county (popn=900,000)

Where are all the people with Coronavirus?
mindproject · 17/03/2020 23:59

I'm convinced I had it 3 years ago. I had all the symptoms. I think that means I now have the herd immunity they wanted everyone to get last week, but don't this week - hence the talk of lockdown.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 17/03/2020 23:59

Anyone tested and confirmed is on a ventilator 🤷‍♀️

Bowerbird5 · 18/03/2020 00:01

I know someone whose child has it. Raging temperature and looks awful, they are very worried. I am now self isolating.

SavageBeauty73 · 18/03/2020 00:05

I was fine this morning and I have developed a painful dry persistent cough since 9pm. I've never had a cough come on so quickly. No fever yet.

I've been on the tube today 😰😷

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/03/2020 00:08

Does it always present with a fever?

No, some folk have no symptoms at all.

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 00:17

Adapt, I agree it seems excessive to go to these extreme measures based on predictions of 20000 deaths but maybe that's a best case scenario?
there appear to be significant cultural differences which could account for the high rates in Italy and and that being the case we seem to have a reasonable chance of not going the same way?

NellyGrace · 18/03/2020 00:32

Well, all the people who know they have coronavirus are either in hospital or are dead.

No one outside of hospital is allowed to be tested.

MorganKitten · 18/03/2020 00:34

A guy I’m friends with on Feb is updating about having it and recovery

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/03/2020 00:37

I had all the WHO symptoms. Every single one of them. But I don’t know if what I had was Covid or pneumonia or flu as all the symptoms are the same. The only guaranteed cases right now are the ones in A&E - a number of people have posted photos from there once off the ventilator but I wouldn’t expect detailed videos for obvious reasons

Bouledeneige · 18/03/2020 00:56

My DS's girlfriend and family are in isolation as they are ill - as yet untested. His school is on partial closure because a number of teachers are off sick. We are in London where its ahead of the rest of the country.

Why question it or be cynical its coming your way. Soon enough we will all know people who have got it - including some of us posting here now - and as it runs through its course we will all know someone who has lost someone. Think about that.

tricky29 · 18/03/2020 01:08

Think I have had it. Splitting headache for a full day (and I don’t get headaches) and a week later, very raw throat with a really annoying cough. Not tickly. But very forceful cough. Sounds chesty but no phlegm (weird). Worse at night. Temperature normal then a bit up (39) then down to normal then up again.

Been about 3/4 days and I can already tell I’m feeling back to normal. So ime not any worse than a really bad cold/chest thing you’d normally get but it may be deadly to immunosuppressed people. Just stay at home if you have a cough/temp. It’s just a few days of your life, no big deal but could harm others.

MummyPop00 · 18/03/2020 02:38

Former chair of Royal College of GP’s has had it. Bit of a credibility fail when she says it’s much worse than flu, because she only had flu for half a day. Really? Because the last time I had Flu I was in bed from Xmas Eve until New Years Day and felt weak for another full week after that.

What to conclude?

a) She doesn’t know what Flu is & I’d seriously reevaluate her chosen profession.

or

b) she’s hamming up being ‘a Coronavirus survivor’ purely for tabloid consumption

CloudyVanilla · 18/03/2020 02:44

Is anyone else wondering if they have already had it?

2 - 3 weeks after coming out of hospital after giving birth to DS I came down with an awful cough. Had chills and fever for a day or so and woke up gasping one night. Cough lasted way longer than it usually does.

However no one else seemed to get sit. Partner said a couple of times "Oh I think I'm getting what you have" but then never really got ill. Kids unaffected including newborn.

CloudyVanilla · 18/03/2020 02:47

@MummyPop00 to be fair I have had flu twice in my life and both times the actual illness was very short. Felt like dying when I had it, bone aching chills and raging fever, but once I sweated through the fever I was quite quickly symptomless, definitely not actively ill for more than a day. Some people respond differently to others

VenusOfWillendorf · 18/03/2020 02:52

My cousin with coronavirus is in a hospital bed in Spain.
She's lucky to have got a bed, being under 60 and normally very healthy helped with that.

CJsGoldfish · 18/03/2020 02:52

MN has plenty of (self diagnosed) cases. Every second man and his dog, it seems and they seem more than happy to stand in the spotlight and tell us all what it's like

MummyPop00 · 18/03/2020 03:10

@cloudyvanilla

1 day with flu. Amazing.

Is it a Cold or is it Flu? Reminds me of the old £20 test. If whilst ill, you look out the window and see a £20 note lying on the middle of your lawn you can go out to pick it up, you sure as hell ain’t got Flu.

wherestheotherone · 18/03/2020 03:20

WHO article suggests that only 88% have a cough, 68% fever. Stats were taken from chinese. We need to know from those who are being tested but not very ill did any of them not get the isolation symptoms. No wonder lockdown is the only way to stop it!

Without testing none of us can be certain we've had it. I might have it now BUT I only have a compulsion to cough and not frequently, I have no temp but chills. I ache, chest tight and burning front and back. Feel a bit off but it wouldn't keep me off work. It's not that bad.

I don't meet the isolating symptoms so do I or don't I? Im lucky I work from home so it's not really affecting me.
