I'm just wondering because we have social media etc etc these days and as yet, I haven't seen any just regular people with the virus who can tell us exactly what it's like? I'm amazed there hasn't been hundreds of accounts

I find it strange the way symptoms vary so much. Isn't Idris Elba completely asymptomatic? And an academic friend posted some studies of the early cases and one, about the cases on that cruise ship, said half the cases were asymptomatic - he was using to show how those who feel well can still infect others.

My dh works in Westminster and has been in meetings with others who have the classic symptoms. We now all have coughs but no one has a temp and I have a sore throat and runny nose.. so not sure really? Hard to know how it will affect you.

Helspopje · 21/03/2020 06:20

Well my hospital is stuffed to bursting with them, many young and previously fit
HTH

Casino218 · 21/03/2020 06:25

What's HTH?

Giganticshark · 21/03/2020 06:27

My friend, my boss, 1 colleague and all their families have it. One has been hospitalised and confirmed.

DoubleAction · 21/03/2020 06:27

I'm really scared I had it and didn't self isolate because the symptoms weren't what we've been told to look out for. It's all been about a cough and temperature (I had neither) but the mild cases people have described don't seem to have that either.

Thankfully for the first 4 days I was so ill I didn't go anywhere but I didn't isolate from family Sad

Terrible headache for 3 days, ridiculously painful aching limbs, did little but sleep. Once it "broke" regular cold symptoms but still no cough.

LefttoherownDevizes · 21/03/2020 06:31

DH and DD have our, I felt a bit ropey last night and am now coughing so much I have tears running down my face. I work in a uni with confirmed cases (including my office), DH works with another confirmed case and DD showing all the symptoms. I just hope the antibody tests are released soon as it would be such a blessing to know we've had it already. Although concerned for vulnerable DS

Greenpop21 · 21/03/2020 07:20

A friend is self isolating- high fever, very achy limbs but no cough.

alreadytaken · 21/03/2020 07:39

The confirmed cases are in hospital because only those ill enough to be admitted are being tested. Those who brought the virus to their community would be well advised not to say that.

Been awake too much of the night worrying about how my junior doctor child and their friends will cope emotionally and if they are all able to buy food. They are a resilient bunch - have to be to get through 6 years of medical school - but they are human, in their first year and know that medics elsewhere have died. This may be the first time they see patients die who could have been saved with more resources and they also dont have access to any of their normal coping methods.

Those who have seen the serious cases dont want to relive it for internet ghouls.

I copied this from another thread -symptoms...........
I have this, I posted earlier. I am also a bit scared. This is day 6 for me and I felt quite a lot better today but I seem to get worse through the day and now feeling bad again.

Symptoms started with sudden exhaustion, achey chest, painful joints, sore back. Low temp on day 2, chills and same as above, since then mainly sore / burning lungs feeling, like something sitting on chest or wearing super tight sports bra. Then today felt a bit better but tonight it’s all back again. Only a slight cough, very dry.

I’m 38, very fit, no health issues so not too worried but the longer it goes the more worried I get of course. Haven’t bothered calling anywhere as they wouldn’t do anything unless I can’t breathe and I’m not at that point.

Sending everyone healthy vibes

BikeRunSki · 21/03/2020 07:59

@Casino218 - HTH = Hope That Helps (said passive aggressively).

AdaHopper · 21/03/2020 08:13

I see lots of people talking about having immunity. There is however no evidence that people get long lasting immunity, is there? The common cold is also from the Corona family and people don't get lasting immunity from that. Did I miss something?

MedSchoolRat · 21/03/2020 08:51

CV19 is not a super bug, honest!!
People get long lasting immunity from most infections.
CV19 is not special. The epidemiologists expect almost everyone who survives it to have long-lasting immunity.
It's not amazing, it's physically fragile, it has a low mutation rate overall but passing thru millions++ of ppl will increase the risk of a mutation.
Mutation can make it more benign, too.

The common cold is from multiple virus families.
The 3-4 coronaviruses that cause the cold may never mutate.
The other common cold viruses DO mutate. And there are lots of them.
I work with virologists & they gossip across desks all day about this kind of thing.
One of them is help hospital with rtPCR tests & is very excited.
I haven't heart to tell him about frustratingly inefficient & underfunded NHS procedures are.
He's in for a shock.
He'll never complain about university inefficiency again.

LefttoherownDevizes · 21/03/2020 08:56

Thanks @MedSchoolRat that's how I understood it but couldn't explain!

Katkincake · 21/03/2020 14:22

@BikeRunSki - I’m sorry to hear about your family friend. Sending a virtual hug Sad

This is powerful

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 17:13

How it was explained to me, was think of it as chicken pox.
How many of us get chicken pox again? However there are some that get shingles (or is it the other way round).

Like seasonal flu (I know this isn’t flu) there are some who never get. I’ve had flu a few times, the worse one ever was the first time.

And yes this thing is weird as fuck. Like flu, but not. Like a cold, but not. That tired feeling after a hard day, but not.

But shh no one on my sm needs to know that my home is now on high alert cos I’m one of the unlucky fuckers who have to stay away from people for 12 weeks. If I didn’t have my action plan from my medical team, I’d already be in hospital.

Bloomburger · 21/03/2020 17:25

43 in our county but someone came out with the corker that there's a huge decontamination pod behind our biggest hospital with 100s of patients in all half dead!

It's totally untrue as one of my clients is on the management team there!

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 17:33

Mutation can make it more benign
and we should remember that reduced pathegenicity is the default for many infectious agents

Nononoandno · 22/03/2020 14:37

Just found out my sons father and wife has it, son hasn’t seen him in a week and we have been in isolation since then! No symptoms here... thank god but staying locked down for next 3 months anyway, just 7am walks in countryside on doorstep

alreadytaken · 24/03/2020 15:01

No-one knows about long term immunity because this has not been around long term. One study staying people were immune a month after recovery, there may be more since last time I checked.
