I'm just wondering because we have social media etc etc these days and as yet, I haven't seen any just regular people with the virus who can tell us exactly what it's like? I'm amazed there hasn't been hundreds of accounts

OP posts:

@wherestheotherone

If in doubt, sit it out ;)

wherestheotherone · 18/03/2020 03:41

I also have asthma and hayfever which can cause tight chest, shortness of breath, this could last months. I'm tired and anxious, not sleeping so I ache and feel weak. I have no cough or fever.

CV or just life?! Unless we're tested we don't know, it will spread like wildfire in the UK because people are moving, interacting but do not have the cough/fever or are symptom free.

I have dependants, I cannot isolate on a whim but I will if have a cough/fever.

Eesha · 18/03/2020 03:54

My friend and her kids believe they have it, ongoing cough, his temp. She did say it wasn't horrendous and manageable however they live with their parents who are now showing symptoms and are high risk.

OccasionalNachos · 18/03/2020 04:00

I read a BBC news article a couple of days ago about people who had recovered and were sharing their stories, both of whom had fairly mild cases.

smallgreyelephant · 18/03/2020 04:12

Hi 4am ish so wobbly.
DD2 had shortness of breath at ~3am. We got it under control by asthma inhaler and sitting in shower for 40 mins with the fan off. She's oK now. sitting in bed reading The Twits. I'm wobbly.
Symptoms match C19 v well (also 40'C and cough)
We not tested but would love to know if it is C19.

Also if it goes through the family are we then immune and ok to go about life as normal/ contribute to society etc?
Need more info on immunity!

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/03/2020 04:55

@smallgreyelephant
I’m sorry to hear you and your family are feeling bad. I hope your dd will be ok. Yes, I’d like to know more. No idea if I’ve got it. I have a cough, we are self isolating and I’m on the thread about my lungs being on fire. I also had something over Christmas, which possibly fits the Covid description better....

As for the immunity thing, I don’t think it lasts long, which is why the vaccine is needed ASAP! Stay safe.

peanut76 · 18/03/2020 05:44

I have a few on FB who probably have it ...but can't get tested.

One things they have all said is that they may be offline for a bit as even looking at a screen makes their heads much worse. Honestly, would you really want to be interviewed either whilst you are feeling like that or indeed, after when then you would probably be pointed at as a potential plague carrier / super spreader!!

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 18/03/2020 05:47

There is confirmed cv in my immediate family and they did not put it on Facebook.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 18/03/2020 06:24

I assume I have it. I live and work in Central London and have had contact with someone who has it. I have a mild cough (and it really is mild) and a fever, which goes up and down. I can get on with things - I don’t feel great (aching limbs, headache, tired) but if I take paracetamol I can carry on working (which I need to - on the phone to banks and landlords all day yesterday trying to save the business). Worst symptom is a weird kind of breathlessness. I am breathing fine but my chest and throat feel full and a little constricted. But I will probably never know because they won’t test me. So I don’t know how they will know when we hit herd immunity, if such a thing even exists.

Dk20 · 18/03/2020 06:27

Anyone that's had it, how long did the really bad days go on for?
(Wondering if I got it how long I would struggle to look after the kids Sad)

Greenpop21 · 18/03/2020 07:13

Thanks to those who have probably had it or know others, for sharing . I think we’re just hungry for information on what to expect as the classic symptoms don’t seem to always be there. The first cases were all tested and they will have recovered. I think the public would be reassured to know for example: 2000 have been diagnosed and so far 1500 have fully recovered. I know those aren’t the true figures and there are thousands more out there but of the tested patients.

Putapeonyinyourpocket · 18/03/2020 07:24

There's a confirmed case at a primary school near me, a parent. Word got out and the parent sent abuse via Facebook. That's why people are scared to say they have it. What is going on with us brits at the moment?!

Greenpop21 · 18/03/2020 07:27

Recovered people not those with it.

DogInATent · 18/03/2020 08:02

At the moment? Brits have always been like this. Give us half-a-chance in a crisis and we're stockpiling and trying to turn a bob or two on the black market. In twenty years we'll have forgotten the details of what it was actually like and will be singing happy songs about loo rolls over the white cliffs of Dover and recalling the "Covid-19 Spirit".

Cam77 · 18/03/2020 08:22

@doginatent
We are no better or worse than elsewhere. But many like to think we are special. I’m just glad that the experts advising the Monster Raving Loony Party have now swung toward following the international strategy of suppression. Though the British government is still struggling with the terms “advise” and “implement”. Now they just need to find a spokesman who can communicate with the public without downplaying or causing mass panic. Maybe ask if Leo Varadkar is available.

DogInATent · 18/03/2020 08:32

@Cam77
I've been pleasantly surprised at Jeremy Hunt and the parliamentary committee he's chairing. There's a lot of competence around the table. There's more to be learned watching the coverage of their sessions than the early evening press briefings. But I suppose the problem there is that not everyone will be able to understand what they're discussing and some of the detail could create anxiety in a world where social media is prone to placing the slightly anxious into anxiety reinforcing death spiral bubbles.

Mumsnet is a pretty good national barometer of reaction across the whole range of public understanding. I'd hope someone is paying attention to reactions.

adaline · 18/03/2020 08:43

Yes @TolstoyAteMyHamster I have exactly the same. It's really weird isn't it?! Not like anything I've ever experienced before.

I have no idea if I have it either as they won't test me. I feel relatively well in myself but I do cough a fair bit and my temperature goes up and down. If there wasn't a pandemic going on I'd just assume it was a cold.

MigginsMrs · 18/03/2020 08:44

It’s nuts. They need to test people so they know if they’ve had it!

Elephantgrey · 18/03/2020 08:45

I strongly suspect that I have it and DS does too. A work colleagues partner (nurse) has tested positive and other people at my work are in self isolation.

5 staff members at my friends work ( cancer ward) have it. He has been exposed but is not allowed to self isolate as so have all the staff and there would be no one to look after the patients.

Joyfulljenny · 18/03/2020 08:47

They are in bed.

My Dd is being treated for pneumonia and my niece is in bed sleeping it off.

Neither have had it confirmed but it’s very likely they have it. Don’t forget we’re behind Italy and in about ten days we will have an explosion of it

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/03/2020 08:51

I've had flu twice. It lasted for well over a week. I couldn't leave bed for days and when I did, didn't have enough energy to push my leg into joggy bottoms and mostly crawled rather than walked.

My experience so far is that it's a chest infection of sorts, added headaches for me and agree, can't look at a screen for extended periods. Much milder than actual flu and in some ways better than a cold as no stuffy and runny nose.

JustDanceAddict · 18/03/2020 08:52

They are only testing those in ICU
My friend was asked to go to hosp to be checked as she had breathing issues but they just told her it was a ‘mild case’ probably and didn’t test.
I’ve had possible symptoms since Sunday but it could just be a general bug - no cough just temperature and feeling crap.

Elephantgrey · 18/03/2020 09:00

Oh and NHS 111 were useless (not the staffs fault). Just a scared girl reading inaccurate information off a sheet.

There is no treatment or testing unless you have severe breathing difficulties by little one had a very high temperature and severe coughing fits. Normally I would have been able to access support for him. There is no advice at all in what to do about the under 5s.

RB68 · 18/03/2020 09:04

Personally I hope they are in isolation or hospital and likely to poorly to be fannying about on here.

I also think you will find people are keeping their gobshut if they have it due to fear of what/how people would react to other family members etc. We are in ISO but keeping it under my hat for the most part esp locally. Just doing our thing and getting on with it.

Geepipe · 18/03/2020 09:18

Dp met a man whos recovered from a confirmed case yesterday. He said he was sick as a dog with flu symptoms for 2 weeks now hes fully better.
