I'll need to start drinking if schools are closed until the next academic year 🤪

peridito · 18/03/2020 15:51

They need to be v careful about making statements and then not fulfilling them.

Jenny Harries ( dep chief med officer ) is on record in the Select Committee investigation on 5 March saying we're currently doing 2,000 tests per day and by 13 March will be up to 10,000.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 15:51

Tg it’s summer

AvocadoOwl · 18/03/2020 15:53

@Avocadoowl actually she said open before the summer holidays which are different in Scotland they go back in August

Ah, apologies. That is what I meant... too used to September denoting the start of the school year! Our English LA actually go back in August this year too!

SansaSnark · 18/03/2020 15:53

I agree- I think a lot of time is being spent saying what they think people want to hear, when actually we just want truth and clarity (as far as possible)

AvocadoOwl · 18/03/2020 15:54

Bold fail there, now I look like a crazy tagging myself GrinBlushGrin

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 15:54

Take this with a bucket of salt, but I know someone who works in the government and they're suggesting we're heading towards a lockdown within the next 10 days.

Hmm yes.

I don't think anyone needs a crystal ball to work that out.

Now the government finally admits the need to go from 5,000 >25,000 tests a day.

Well at least the penny is dropping...

... Its better than them burying head in sand and trying to spin their way out of things or blame someone else for a change.

At this point as long as the take action as opposed to just defending the indefensible I'll take it.

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 15:55

I'll need to start drinking if schools are closed until the next academic year

That'll explain the alleged start of panic buying alcohol...

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 16:01

I didn't drink any of the wine I've accumulate in the last year so I've no need to buy any Smile I bet people are stocking up though.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 18/03/2020 16:03

Interested in the bit from Kirsty Williams about those who get FSM - as my two do. Anyone got any idea what that means?

Sunshinesky1981 · 18/03/2020 16:03

If they announce mass school closures then they are going to have to put in place some kind of update for a benefit payment for working parents.

Currently only single parents with a child under 5 can claim income support so they don't have to look for work.

Anyone with a child over 5 needs to claim JSA which you need to prove you are looking for work and take it where it is offered.

HOW can parents do this if they have to be at home to look after children as the schools are shut? Or are the government planning on finding a few million childcare providers in the next few days? Angry

Cheeseismylife · 18/03/2020 16:03

I bought paint today. In preparation for lockdown decorating. OH is a teacher and they are closed to half the year groups now as no staff.
Kids are still in school but I am assuming Friday is last day.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 18/03/2020 16:04

I bloody drank my entire house-stock of alcohol two weeks back for DPs birthday 🙄

Cheeseismylife · 18/03/2020 16:05

On my drive to pick up paint (preordered so just in and out) there were people everywhere. On the streets, in the cafés, loads of people walking about in groups.
And in my town there were loads of elderly people in all the shops.

Cheeseismylife · 18/03/2020 16:06

@BeyondMymymymyCorona my OH asked me to stock up beer for him. But everything limited to 4 max so he's only got 4. He's going to be narked, that's one evenings worth Grin

defthand · 18/03/2020 16:15

I get the feeling people are more out and about than normal because they’re anticipating a lockdown.

Really daft — this is why you don’t give people massive advance notice.

Chance12 · 18/03/2020 16:15

Are we going to hear from Boris today?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 18/03/2020 16:16
