@Angryrant55 honestly
So your neighbour whose husband doesn't even work in that role anymore USED to do a wee admin job and that's what they've come up with and that's what you believe? Utterly ridiculous.
I have family worker as managers in large stores but you don't even need to know anyone working in a shop to know that it's absolutely ludicrous what you've just said. Just absolutely stupid.

BeijingBikini · 18/03/2020 14:26

I've heard from my SIL's friend's mum who's a doctor that we are going into lockdown end of this week.

cocodomingo · 18/03/2020 14:27

Increase of 676 cases today in UK. Deaths to be announced later.

Carlislemumof4 · 18/03/2020 14:30

My DCs primary have given us this list asking parents to inform them if they're employed in one of these roles in the event of a staggered closure.

School staff
GPs, nurses, doctors
Other NHS staff – please advise as to what role
Food chain distribution
Care home staff
Emergency services – police, fire, ambulance or control room
Armed forces

DS secondary school has also emailed today to ask the same thing. X

Army presence in south west london, from my sister.

As my spanish boyfriend saw the army last weds in Madrid, i am putting two and two together

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 14:39

What about people who work in power industry infrastructure or pharmaceutical production? They are quite important too.

Whereabout in the country are you? Would be interesting to see which local authorities are going to shut for all but essential work force first.

danni0509 · 18/03/2020 14:39

Prisoner from hmp Manchester tests positive for coronavirus. Now being treated in hospital.

(BBC news)

Horehound · 18/03/2020 14:40

My husband is in big pharma and so far it's business as usual.

Carlislemumof4 · 18/03/2020 14:42

@RedToothBrush Carlisle, Cumbria

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 14:44

Horehound do they have production on site?

One of our best friends works for one of the major UK manufacturers and has said its business as usual but they are being very strict about anyone who is sick in anyway or had been to Italy when the virus was at the import stage.

Said they had to protect the plant from closure.

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 14:50

I think there was talk that Cumbria had an unusually high initial number of cases.

It's on 22 official cases now, which is higher than most authorities without taking into consideration the low density of population and low population full stop.

And I'm guessing it's hospital capacity is probably lower than other areas too.

Makes sense that there's talk of moving forward there earlier than elsewhere from the data.

Horehound · 18/03/2020 14:54

@Redtoothbrush yes big production on site of many things. Salbutamol is one and there's vaccines too. Yes they are bring very strict. Basically anyone who has travelled recently had to self isolate and my husband colleague is off because her bf's cousin displayed symptoms. (That aren't on site and she had no contact with!) DH said their office is out of bounds too and they were moved to a new office

ZenDay · 18/03/2020 15:28

@Angryrant55 Your posts about Trump's intention to start WW3 with China are ridiculously over the top. Is it for intention to scare some people?

SansaSnark · 18/03/2020 15:31

Self isolating as of today due to a cough. A lot of teacher friends in other schools have partial closures.

I've been working from home making the rumored "home learning packs" for Y7/8 today- officially they are only off until the end of the week, but the effort going into this suggests to me that they are not going to be back in school on Monday.

AvocadoOwl · 18/03/2020 15:34

London will NOT be shut down today or tomorrow

Very specific that its not Wednesday or Thurs. How about Fri or Saturday then?!

Indeed.

SansaSnark · 18/03/2020 15:38

SQA statement re exams here for anyone in Scotland: www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/93577.html

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 15:38

How long will schools close for? Our easter holidays aren't for 2/3 weeks yet.

tigerbear · 18/03/2020 15:38

@Calmonthesurfacebut totally agree.
How the hell are we supposed to KNOW if we have it, without testing??
DD arrived back from her dads house yesterday after 6 nights, and his wife messaged this morning to say they’re pretty certain he has it (came on suddenly during the night with high temp and cough), so they’re obviously self isolating.
Not sure if my household also needs to self isolate??
DD’s school closed yesterday anyway, and I work from home as self employed so we are in. But DP - also self employed as a tradesman - has work lined up for next two weeks. Does he need to stay in too, do you think?

Happy101 · 18/03/2020 15:40

Take this with a bucket of salt, but I know someone who works in the government and they're suggesting we're heading towards a lockdown within the next 10 days.

AvocadoOwl · 18/03/2020 15:40

How long will schools close for? Our easter holidays aren't for 2/3 weeks yet.

I believe the Scottish communication said it may be until September.

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 15:41

😱

TheCanterburyWhales · 18/03/2020 15:43

No shit Sherlock @ lockdown approaching.
Hmm

Cam77 · 18/03/2020 15:46

Now the government finally admits the need to go from 5,000 >25,000 tests a day. Seriously, the Minster Raving Loony Party could be no less incompetent than this government in their handling of this so far.

Quartz2208 · 18/03/2020 15:50

@Avocadoowl actually she said open before the summer holidays which are different in Scotland they go back in August
