My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

@SchrodingersKitty yes I agree. I wouldn’t call 999 for these symptoms; I only called 111 because I have an underlying health condition and it said to call it have chest pains. I went though two lots of triage before they pronounced me a priority and got a doctor to call me back. They said to call 999 if shortness of breath gets to the point I can’t say a few sentences without stopping or I develop a really bad fever.

My sore throat was the first system although two days before that I was feeling fatigued and getting exhausted, sweaty, and very flushed from 10 mins walking. I thought I was coming down with something but didn’t think it was this until I got the dry cough and shortness of breath.

onlinelinda · 21/03/2020 01:12

I'm getting antibiotics even though. Because of the need to treat the respiratory issue.

TheWooisStrong · 21/03/2020 02:34

Anyone else struggling to sleep? I’ve had two hours and I’m wide awake again. Feeling very stressed.
Pain in between shoulders had gone today, now it’s back.
DH sleeping well at least and he’s got the same as me, so maybe I’m just worried.

Theredjellybean · 21/03/2020 02:51

Fever sweats and chest pain woken me up

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/03/2020 05:16

For anyone with anxiety, the symptom checker is alarming. However out of curiosity, I put my age in (late 40’s), ticked cough on one page and chest tightness on the next and it still told me to call 999.

ShastaBeast · 21/03/2020 06:26

I found this reassuring- “More than 90% of all pediatric patients were asymptomatic, showing mild or common forms of illness.”

10yr old has been coughing but is fine, desperate to go to school & spent the day in school uniform. 8yr old a bit wheezy as she’s asthmatic but no cough and loving no school.

It feels like coughing makes breathing worse and only sometimes is productive so it’s best to not cough as much as possible.

findingschools4myboys · 21/03/2020 06:52

Thoughts on taking antihistamine? I have woken up still very dizzy and heavy - almost vertigo like. Wondering if linked to sinuses, my ears are so blocked too. I know antihistamines clear that but worried it’s not good to take if I have the virus.

Cailleach · 21/03/2020 08:01

Is anyone else sleeping like the dead with this? I am a light and restless sleeper normally but from 9.30pm - 5am I am deeply asleep since my symptoms first started. This is unheard of for me as I am usually awake at least twice a night.

tangledyarn · 21/03/2020 08:03

@dandypanic Snap. That's exactly what happened to me yesterday. Called 111 as been Ill for 12 days, am v short of breath and asthmatic..but I'm fine..just feel terrible. They were set on calling a medicar but I knew it wasnt necessary (because chest pain + high heart rate+ shortness of breath =cardiac red flag) in the end agreed I could speak to a dr instead who said almost certainly covid + pleurisy x

onlinelinda · 21/03/2020 08:28

Not sure those help @Finding . Poor you.

@Cailleach I'm sleeping v badly-5 hours last night 2-7 so far.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 21/03/2020 08:39

@callieach I’ve been sleeping so heavily. I go from 10pm - 6:30am without waking up at all. I usually wake up at least 3 times as I’m the lightest sleeper. I Can’t remember the last time I slept so heavily, and then I ruddy wake up feeling exhausted needing to go back to bed!

KayakingOnDown · 21/03/2020 08:48

So many similarities here.

My GP diagnosed Covid and possible pleurisy and prescribed me antibiotics.

Chest pain and laboured breathing now day 5. Pain seems to have gone down lower in my chest today.

I'm sleeping really soundly.

Update from me on day 10/11 (not exactly sure): feeling a bit better, not getting my hopes up but no fever and no crippling fatigue so this is an improvement. I still feel worn out but sitting quietly reading to my children is fine! Have been up since 7am so hoping the day continues this way.

Interestingly cough slightly more annoying today, still throat clearing but just more often. Maybe just as moving more.

So glad to feel even slightly better!

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 21/03/2020 10:38

Day 10 for me - cough more chesty & sore. Throat & tongue still burning & I sound like Marge Simpson when I talk. I feel washed out. Technically I can come out of self isolation as I've passed 7 days but as I feel so yuck still I'm sceptical that I'm not infectious. What do others that have passed 7 days think?

Littleninja1 · 21/03/2020 10:49

Update from me. I went to A&E last night after my chest tightness and breathing got worse. They listened to my symptoms as I've detailed on this thread. Tested oxygen, did ecg and took blood. My results for all were good and I felt so relieved.

However, the doctor said "it's certainly viral and it's almost certainly Covid". I asked about lack of cough and fever and he said that didn't matter. The symptoms all point to Covid.

He said my chest is working well so the pain is just pain and when I get it I have to remember I am breathing and it's just tightness but I'm getting good air in. He said my body is fighting it and I will be fine as long as I rest at home. This was re-assuring. It was a very frightening few hours as I felt so unwell.

Every other night I have slept like a log but last night couldn't sleep.

Hope everyone is feeling better.

treedragon · 21/03/2020 10:49

My dad and brother have had something or other. Like an irritated throat with something stuck in it. Occasional non productive cough. A type of cough if you were to breathe dust in. They have to clear their throats. But it’s intermittent. The feeling comes and goes.

Can anyone relate?

treedragon · 21/03/2020 10:50

@Littleninja1

Blessings that you were sorted by our lovely NHS

tempestterra · 21/03/2020 10:54

Day 4 for me, still low grade fever, banging headache my upset stomach is better than it was, but that might be because I haven't eaten anything since Wednesday evening, keeping up fluids though.
Pain between shoulder blades, tight band around rib cage comes and goes. Slept well last night which surprised me, as over the last week me sleep has been really poor.
Just want to get next few days over as I think days 7-10 are meant to be the most serious?
Thank you to all of you who are posting with positive updates, it really helps.

tempestterra · 21/03/2020 10:55

littleninja thank you for update, it's really helpful. Hope you make a speedy recovery Daffodil

Littleninja1 · 21/03/2020 10:57

@treedragon I saw three different docs/nurses and they were incredible. I felt so safe. They are angels and when I am well again I'd love to help in some way, volunteer or something. I've been very angry at the NHS in the past due to mental health treatment for years and try to avoid doctors as much as possible. Last night I saw I had been wrong. They did care and they were so kind.

Also, in case it helps anyone, I was at a major London hospital and there was barely any patients waiting. Maybe 4 or 5 others in the one-two hours I was there. We were all seen quickly. Everyone wore masks and there was anti bac gel all over. For sitting in a room full of C19, I felt as safe as I could. I was even able to sit far across the room from other patients.

tempestterra · 21/03/2020 10:58

littleninja can I ask what day you are on?

notangelinajolie · 21/03/2020 10:59

Day 10/11 ish. I feel fine. Chest was bad last night but it doesn't feel tight and I'm not breathlessness this morning yet. But bloody temp again - it's annoying me now. I really want a nice soak in a hot bath. Sorry, I woke up grumpy today. It's not a first world problem when all around are dying.

Take care all Flowers and look forward to the day when we can share Wine

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 11:03

Littleninja thank you for the update and for describing how the hospital is running at the moment. I was going to ask you if it seemed as though they were over stretched and struggling but then I saw your second post. That is all very positive and I'm glad you are feeling reassured. Rest up and do look after yourself Smile

notangelinajolie · 21/03/2020 11:06

@Littleninja1 thank you for the update. Glad you are ok. And it's quite reasuring to read that the waiting room wasn't wall to ceiling with patients.

longshot · 21/03/2020 11:07

@Littleninja1 I think you are where I was a few days ago when I also went in and Dr said same thing, you'll be OK but it is probably Covid so stay home, rest etc

Today I am starting to improve, day 11 but finally feel I could go out if I wanted to but probably won't do as don't need to and want to recover.

DH and DCs isolating until Wed as DCs showing mild symptoms and got to restart the 7 days when that happens! I will have to go out at some point but will avoid shops etc as long as I can do just in case. We live rurally so I am excited by the prospect of a walk up the road!
