My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Has anyone had a sore throat difficult to swallow after feeling better? I still have a cough that comes and goes but dont know if the sore throat is from same virus or I'm getting another virus... (I feel like crying today, 17th day)

Littleninja1 · 21/03/2020 11:14

Thanks everyone. I've been to A&E twice before - a broken toe one time and a suspected meningitis another time that thankfully wasn't in the end. This was by far the best experience! Sounds so crazy but it's true. It was so well organised and each patient had a lot of time spent on them.

I keep remembering things that may be helpful to report back. Another thing doc said was that the tests for C19 are only 75% accurate Confused I can't remember why he told me that but remember the stat.

ChiaraRimini · 21/03/2020 11:14

@findingschools don't take antihistamines or anything other then paracetamol if you think you may have COVID19. Call 111.

Littleninja1 · 21/03/2020 11:17

@longshot that sounds right. I'm on day 9 from when I first felt breathless and tight chest. Day 10 from first feeling of intense fatigue. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Do you find it comes and goes a lot? I can feel on the mend for a few hours then suddenly crash and have to go back to bed.

My DH is now isolating as well. It's hard for those around us isn't it. I'd hate to watch him go through this Sad

hollytom · 21/03/2020 11:24

Day 8 for me. My breathing feels easier. I have a peak flow that was my sons. I tried it on Sunday and it was 200 now up to 300. I believe 400 is normal for my age so it shows my lung capacity was low.

KayakingOnDown · 21/03/2020 11:27

Drat . I'm only day 5.

Weepingwillows12 · 21/03/2020 11:39

I think I am day 8 or o from when I felt tight chest, breathless from minimal exercise. Woke up in the night with banging headache and cant shift it with painkillers but my tight chest has just completely disappeared. Its bizarre. Wondering if mine was anxiety really. Have been coughing o bit the last 2 days and just feel I have a thickly throat. Definitely not as bad as some of you on here. I hope you all feel better soon and for me this is the getting better stage rather than calm before the storm. God bless the nhs too. Have lots of friends and family in the NHS and it is tough indeed for them at the moment.

treedragon · 21/03/2020 11:42

@weepingwillows12

It's the tickly throat and intermitted got something stuck in throat people in my family have got.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/03/2020 11:47

Update here. Headaches worse. Sore throst now scraty and painful. Now want to be in bed. Breathing okay but still heavy feeling in chest. Taking all asthma inhalers. And paracetamol. Was going to take antihistamine too but wont if not adviced.

Had plans to clean and make bedrooms dust free and to exercise (im obese) to lower risk but just want to be in bed and sleep. I feel ill now.

On the pkus side i dint normally sleep well and slept like the dead ladt night til 8am!

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/03/2020 11:48

Im not diagnosed btw. Inhalers increased where id normally have steroids because of risk of sterouds if it is.

findingschools4myboys · 21/03/2020 12:18

@ChiaraRimini
I already took antihistamine. Asked my doc and he said it’s safe. It seems to have helped every so slightly. I think my dizzy and heavy feeling is from my sinuses, head and ears suddenly now so blocked.

For anyone who thinks they have developed a sinus infection- they often come at the end of a viral infection or flu - just another straw to clutch on to!

I don’t feel great, am still stuck in bed - mainly for my heaviness. BUT for the first time since Monday I actually wanted to eat and asked for some food! (And I am usually a good eater!) so I hoping that is also a good sign.

findingschools4myboys · 21/03/2020 12:23

And just want to clarify I took a clarityn.

And also all hay fever sufferers (birch tree starting) are being recommmeded to stay on top of their medication.

In the letter we got from my son’s allergy doctor we were advised to treat hay fever aggressively.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/03/2020 12:28

That's interesting finding. I might take antihistamines daily then.

findingschools4myboys · 21/03/2020 12:46

@Squashed

Obviously don’t take my advice as medical advice. I am only sharing what I have been told. I asked my doc if it’s safe for me to take and he said yes. And then I also did a quick google and remembered the letter from my son’s allergy doc who is one of the allergy docs in London who I know has been getting lots of inside info from Italy.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/03/2020 12:53

I will ring my doctors monday.

GalOopNorth · 21/03/2020 12:55

I have read about the coming and going of symptoms in reports from China. That you start to feel better and then feel worse. I think it is one of the unusual things about the virus that has caught some medical staff out.

user34254356 · 21/03/2020 12:59

@findingschools4myboys v interesting as i have blocked sinuses this morning. Burning feeling in eyes still and got very tired after a trip to the garden.

Wish I knew what it was.

On day 8 now

SchrodingersKitty · 21/03/2020 13:05

@treedragon - that sore swollen throat feeling that there's something in it is exactly how mine started (though I have no official diagnosis, of course). Day 10/11 now and it is still there. I have taken antihistamines a few times (though I see someone up thread said we shouldn't) as I felt my throat was closing up and I have lots of allergies. I am asthmatic (though usually only an issue when I have a chest infection) and have been taking my relievers but not the preventers (perhaps wrongly, but there is a lot of confusing advice about this). My peak flow is better than it was three weeks ago when I was seen by gp and given antibiotics for chest infection. It is actually better than it usually is, which I put down to constantly open window making me take deeper breaths.

Other news - feeling not too bad today on getting up, but now a bit light-headed and dizzy. Very hard to distinguish symptoms of the virus from symptoms of anxiety / panic - i really should avoid reading the news.

Worst news is that DH says he is also feeling 'fluey', which for him means also lightheaded and woozy, as he never gets any of the other symptoms of flu. I'm worried, as all of my extraordinary distancing moves have been to try and avoid him getting it. He is 71, had lymphoma two years ago, and is currently under investigation for brain lesions (still undiagnosed since August). He has no current symptoms of the brain thing, other than an unclear previous scan. Other than this he has always had a really strong immune system, and got through his previous treatment really well. A far as we know his immune system is not currently reduced. Nonetheless, anxious times. If he's not better by tonight I think we have to start another 7 days of strict self-isolating from anyone outside the house?

DS (20) is home from uni and can in theory take over simple cooking (DH has been doing all up to now), but he has dyspraxia and finds physical tasks tricky, so it'll be a stressful few days until I can assume I am clear (after 14 days I think) and pick up the reins again.

clairethewitch70 · 21/03/2020 13:12

Day 17. Legs aching from knees down. Several small coughing bouts. One bout of breathlessness so far

treedragon · 21/03/2020 13:14

@schrodingerskitty

I am really starting to get anxiety with all this covid19.

shame there isn't drive through testing like there is in the USA.

firenze86 · 21/03/2020 15:26

Hi, hope everyone is feeling ok. I’ve read the whole thread with interest, as I have similar symptoms.

Last Sunday I felt feverish and achey, but of diarrhoea (sorry tmi) followed by a few days of slight sore throat and tickly cough on and off. Ive also had really bad sinus headaches, felt tired a lot and had the metallic taste a couple of times. Last night I woke up at 1 with an awful headache and temperature and was shivering really badly. Didn’t get back to sleep for hours and then woke up this morning still feeling rubbish, tired, groggy and achey with the headache still there.

We have been self isolating since last weekend as my husband was exposed to someone with the virus on saturday so haven’t been out to spread whatever I have! Dh has had a scratchy cough, slight fever and feels run down.

I’m confused because all the advice says a persistent cough which neither of us have had really...

longshot · 21/03/2020 16:00

@firenze - I think that is it 'I haven't had a persistent cough....really'. This is exactly how I was thinking of my cough however now on day 11 I realise I am coughing maybe 10-15 times a day (by that I mean one cough or a throat clear) and it has been like that throughout, somedays less some days a little more. It seems minor but it is consistent. When I was in hospital on the Covid section of A&E (!) nobody had one of those awful hacking coughs you imagine so I guess everyone potentially experiences it differently? My friend's son has been diagnosed today, he has a very bad cough, the mum has it mildly (not tested but it will be) and has hardly any cough and mild symptoms.

@superbrew - I have the throat thing now and my chest is sore again :-( feel sad as was feeling better but I am still better than I was so trying to stay positive.

clairethewitch70 · 21/03/2020 16:36

Chiara - is there a reason not to take antihistamines? I am on 4 times the recommended dose (Consultant prescribed) due to other issues?

angell84 · 21/03/2020 16:43

I feel a bit better. My STI is healing too
