My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Is this what you mean?

ShastaBeast · 20/03/2020 11:54

Oh and I felt a cold sensation moving down and into my left side across the lower ribs. DH felt similar in both sides. DH and our eldest are 3 days behind me.

Kahlua4me · 20/03/2020 12:01

Aurea thank you so much for finding that. So much easier to read than the info I found 😊

TackyTriceratops · 20/03/2020 12:01

I was involved in a discussion re elder berry, many practitioners were involved. General consensus was not enough evidence but maybe take prophylactically and stop when ill. Most didn't think it's an issue there's just no research or evidence either way.

BiBiBirdie · 20/03/2020 12:09

Mine were like that at the end of December. It was, as you say, like nothing I have ever felt in my life. I kept expecting to start coughing something up but no matter how much I coughed nothing came up.
My throat felt like I had swallowed glass, I couldn't stomach solid food, but I was so thirsty, but when I drank even water the pain was unreal. It felt like my whole throat and lungs where closed off and my chest felt heavy, like concrete was being dropped on it.
I had the shakes too. I had white lumps on my throat at the back of my mouth.

I am almost convinced that was it then before it became widely known. DP had it but to a lesser extent than me, as did DD (she had the cough and throat).

I felt better in the sense of the headache and shakes went after a fortnight, but the cough lingered until the start of February just not to the degree of it feeling on fire. I actually, for the first time ever, lost weight over Christmas due to not being able to eat properly, which is unheard of.

Since then, I have had a wheeze, when ever I exercise or walk upstairs. Never had that in my life and I am reasonably fit. But I get worn out very easily now.

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 12:11

@kahlua4me thank good for that!! Read about it nowhere!

@Finding that reassuring. Yes that's the scary bit but honestly I'm sure it won't get too bad at this stage of your illness.
I'm not too breathless just mild so far (day 5) . COPD and reduced lung function so that's the scariest bit for me. Although keep telling myself I'm fit , well, no other comorbidities, not overweight, eat properly and exercise. Under 60. So praying that makes a difference as copd stats not great for this.

If it reassures you, I had one big copd flareup a few years ago and really badly breathless, and still here I am and you'd never know.

user34254356 · 20/03/2020 12:13

Day 7 and markedly better since yesterday. Getting worried as a lot of stories I have read seem to suggest people getting better and then taking a turn for the worse. Feel slightly breathless though, chest feels bit heavy and so trying not to over exert myself.

SchrodingersKitty · 20/03/2020 12:23

Day 10, I think (it started as far as I remember with the sore throat on the evening of Wed 11th). My throat is back to how it felt at the start - like it is swollen and closing up, and sensation of roughness as if something is stuck there. Lungs hurting, especially at back. Breathing ok but more coughing fits than for the last few days.

Emotionally feeling a bit less stable. Had a row with DS this morning (and DH who kept joining in from the floor above) as he was loitering in kitchen and not getting out of the way so I could make my food (I'm trying to avoid being in same room as them). He was moaning about how he couldn't get down to uni work and insisting it was 'impossible' to organise himself because of his dyspraxia. My pep talk about how he'd managed in the past (got literally top marks in all his A levels and got into Oxford) segued into getting angry with him about how this level of issue was really not top of anyone's agenda right now. It was unfair as I know he must be worrying about the situation too (though not much sign of it!), but I've reached my limit with not being able to touch anything without kitchen roll/wipes, and scuttling out of rooms anyone is in. And I still need to keep going with all the marking and making online lectures for my own students.

Basically feeling sorry for myself and annoyed that it didn't seem to occur to either of them that the simple solution was for one of them to offer to get my breakfast for me (though to be fair DH is cooking all the other meals).

Anyone else reaching their limits of calm acceptance?

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 12:23

Anyone else have a bit of mucous/phlegm that needs cleansing from the throat or coughing up occasionally?

Moknicker · 20/03/2020 12:48

You know - I think i might have given myself some zinc poisoning :) with all the supplements i have been taking

@stayathomegardener. Thank you so much! I will cut those out and see if i feel better

@BinkyandBunty - good to hear you tested negative. Very reassuring but part of me is a bit gutted because i thought i was one of the "mild CV category" on the basis that I am on Day 9.

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 12:55

@findingschools4myboys
Yes that exactly

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 13:12

@Moknicker
I am very lucky and have my doctor who I have known for over 20 years who is at the forefront of this at a large London hospital answering my every message or call.
I asked him exact same thing, would he not expect me to be more poorly than I am if I were to deteriorate much more and he said yes. So I took a lot of comfort from that.
And I know some people get worried about breathless meaning it’s serious- the amount of messages I have had that they are saying oh wow that’s considered dangerous and serious you should be checked.
After speaking to my doc and a respiratory doc yesterday they both confirmed that a lot of people even in mild conditions are getting this chest tightness and breathlessness.
The respiratory doctor said it was even good that I was able to have a shower and that I could hold a conversation. So I think we have to keep this in mind. The fact we are all able to come on to mumsnet and update etc, we must be doing relatively ok even if uncomfortable.

Xx

I am still sick - lungs on fire - my tongue is green!

Day 7 for me

I haven't been religious in ages. I prayed to God to get me through it

Does anyone else still have a fever on day 10? Mine is 38.8 currently and I just feel rough.

Chest is less tight but have a strong sense of anxiety in it (I think) I feel sort of stressed and edgy. Only other symptoms now are exhaustion and slight phlegm / throat clearing.

I just want someone to tell me I am going to get better

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 13:29

Longshot
The fact your chest is better is a great sign.
If it makes you feel better I had a big anxiety attack earlier, made me more breathless, hands and lips went numb. This is a very anxious time for all of us. And I am constantly clearing my throat today! I just had a sneezing fit and had mucous come up from chest!
Do you have paracetamol you can take for your temp. Having that high of a temp will make you feel rubbish.

user34254356 · 20/03/2020 13:40

i saw this on another thread. I haven't had a headache as described below, does that mean it's not Covid?

A London hospital doctor gave a vivid description of what it is like to suffer from Covid-19, which he said even in a mild form caused “days of banging headaches and feeling like death”.

goingoverground · 20/03/2020 14:01

@Moknicker @Mummyoflittledragon @longshot @stayathomegardener @Aurea @Kahlua4me @Countrygirl38

I asked about the supplements because they can cause acid reflux as a side effect at normal dosage, which could cause a dry cough, sore throat and burning/pressure feeling in the chest. An overdose of zinc, can also cause flu like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, headache. It can even impair immune function. Some of the Sambucol range contains zinc and vitamin C as well as black elderberry so if you are taking zinc supplements too, you are doubling up.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms you MUST assume it is COVID-19 and self isolate, obviously, but you might want to check whether you are overdosing on the supplements too.

Not in my case. The sambucus nigra is homeopathic so small quantities. Although I actually haven’t taken it since the symptoms came out, before because I forgot - prioritising NAC etc. And the other supplements such as vit c are since after the burning started... and am still taking, burning has subsided.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2020 14:07

Forgot to say Zinc. Same thing there...

Aurea · 20/03/2020 14:07

Thanks @goingunderground

That's interesting. I am only taking about 25mg of zinc a day which is under the recommended maximum does of 40 mg and I still have the symptoms.

Good to know though.....x

screamer1 · 20/03/2020 14:16

If i have her sore throat, swollen glands and headache, BUT NO temp or cough is it unlikely corona?

Mydogdoesntlisten · 20/03/2020 14:23

goingoverground- I had the acid reflux/ indigestion but I don't think I was taking any supplements at the time over and above my normal vitamin D supplement (10 micrograms) and possibly a half dose of a multivitamin supplement for vegans which I remember periodically. (Half dose as the amounts of b vitamins seem quite large and I'm sure zinc levels even with the full dose are within acceptable limits-also had been taking this for months with no side effects and continue to now, again with no side effects).

coronade · 20/03/2020 14:45

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what does NAC stand for?
My 96yr old aunt is in hospital with pneumonia and suspected CV. She had the test Wednesday but no result yet. She was ill last Thursday and gp diagnosed a bad urine infection. Friday she said she was dying, bit brighter Saturday, Sunday they actually thought she was dying, perked up mon a bit but fell Wednesday and taken to hospital where they found out she had pneumonia. She also has leukaemia so not great if it is CV. She lives in SE London and I’m assuming she’s caught it off a carer or family member, although no one else has any symptoms.

coronade · 20/03/2020 14:56

My cousin just messaged she does have CV.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/03/2020 14:56

Nearly 3 weeks here and feeling distinctly 'better', still tired and a bit achey though. Headaches and chest pain much better. Just to mention in case it helps others. Flowers to all those ill and hope you feel better soon
