My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Day 7 and I just tried to ring the GP for advice but they said I had to ring 111. I am very unclear as to when, if I have it, I am longer infectious. My DH is in an at risk group so need some advice.

user34254356 · 20/03/2020 09:37

@longshot from reading a variety of stories, i think a turn for the worse is normally around days 10-12, if you can ride those out then fingers crossed you are on the path to recovery and can stop worrying.

This is what I have been telling myself!!

Weepingwillows12 · 20/03/2020 09:37

I have had a tight chest and breathlessness for a week which has got very gradually worse. Feeling generally yuk but only slightly raised temp no fever. Last night I found the chest tightness quite scary and was convinced I was I'll not just anxious but was a bit bette this morning though still feel lightheaded. Have young kids so still up and about but would prefer to be resting so still in the totally manageable range but uncomfortable. Am isolating anyway as 3 year old has a fever.

Does anyone else tightness worsen in the evenings? Is that more likely to be anxious or a bug?

hollytom · 20/03/2020 09:42

Yes my chest feels worse in the evening definitely

DandyPenguin · 20/03/2020 09:45

Yes me too to chest pain worse in the evenings!

Really glad to see others saying this as I was googling it last night but couldn’t see anything.

clairethewitch70 · 20/03/2020 09:50

Day 16. Yesterday was the first day without breathless moments. Finally feel I am beating this thing.

KayakingOnDown · 20/03/2020 09:53

Oh good Claire. 16 days is long though.
I'm only on day 5 - if counting from first day of chest pain? Do you have underlying conditions?

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 09:59

I think day 10 for me. Felt so much better overnight. Still woke with some anxiety but chest tightness as lightened so much and I have actually
Been able to go downstairs and help out a bit with kids this morning. Think I got a bit excited though and got a little bit out of breath but I of course shouldn’t feel 100% better yet! No more diarrhoea!
Some coughing up a bit of mucous but genuinely feel much better.
Still waiting for that stupid test!

@longshot

This is from a respiratory doc

”Just want to say – I’ve seen quite a few people with Covid 19 since Sunday. The vast majority are fine. They seem to have one week of fever, a few days of dry cough and then sometimes breathlessness on day 8 or 9. Most people are fine to stay at home and recover in about 10 days. If it is going to be bad it is around day 9 or 10 and the breathlessness gets rapidly worse at that point. We have had five patients who needed ITU but they all have heart or lung disease, and are quite elderly. Thankfully children seem to be invincible.”

stayathomegardener · 20/03/2020 10:21

@Moknicker please look at the research that shows Elderberry should not be used with CV.

stayathomegardener · 20/03/2020 10:24

@goingoverground please look at the research that say not to use elderberry/sambucol with CV.

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 10:35

NHS dietician I know said Zinc m, vit c, e, a, d folate, vitb12, and 6 are all important for a healthy immune system. They are in most normal diets. Zinc is found in whole grains, dairy, meat and nuts.

Excuse varying fonts etc.

We must remember that 80% won't get to the 10 -12 day breathless stage.

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 10:37

What region are you in Findingschools?

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 10:39

Guardian says a hotspot developing in West Midlands UK now. I bet that's because of the amount of commuting from across that region to London.

stayathomegardener · 20/03/2020 10:39

Burning sensation is easing today, day 9. Actually slept on my front last night for the first time, not putting my bra back on yet though!

Interestingly when I was talking to DH about all the symptoms this morning he told me he was exactly the same after Christmas. Hmm
Usual cold but including throat, breathlessness, fatigue and the lung pain was so bad he considered at one point he had broken a rib. He's pretty fit and rarely ill.

He thought it took him to late February to feel recovered.

I assume a January infection would not be CV. He thinks he picked it up in London.

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 10:40

@onlinelinda
London

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 10:41

Slightly embarrassing question, is a slightly burny anus area for no reason a symptom?

longshot · 20/03/2020 10:42

I am finding this thread so reassuring.

I feel quite bad again now, chest not terrible but exhausted and a bit sort of shaky. My kids were being quite annoying this morning and I just couldn’t cope with it at all, made me feel faint (the stress?)

Anyway DH on a conference call so I’ve turned the TV on and he can take over later. I am too ill to look after them and allow myself to recover, I know that. Just need to rest a couple more days and get through that day 10-12 bit that everyone talks about and hope that I will then he more able to function as a parent!

onlinelinda · 20/03/2020 10:54

Right in the thick of it @Finding.

Let him take over and go to bed for a rest @Longshot, as soon as. You can't look after kids with this.

I'm sympathise-I have 2 Dc at uni who all wanted info yesterday about when to return, where to stay, etc etc. Halls practically empty except for them. DD here and various meltdowns all week. DH away. Frankly it's too much with illness too.

I'm finding the thread more reassuring that I expected. I'm still too nervous to read back from the beginning.

Aurea · 20/03/2020 10:58

@stayathomegardener

I have been taking Sambucol for some days for symptoms of pressure, heat and tightness in chest and difficulty breathing.

I have googled Sambucol, but all the links I have found say it is recommended for Coronavirus.

I would be very grateful if you could point me to where I should be looking. I feel a little worried now. Thanks!

findingschools4myboys · 20/03/2020 11:00

@onlinelinda
Promise you the thread isn’t scary at all. Actually reassuring to see how many people are coping with similar symptoms. I specially breathlessness which I find scary.
I have stopped watching news and definitely don’t look at daily mail!!

I am suddenly not feeling great again. Think I got too excited this morning!

Aurea · 20/03/2020 11:02

This is the herbal tea I have been taking. It seems to help a little....don't be put off by the web address, it is for humans, not pets!

Kahlua4me · 20/03/2020 11:23

onlinelinda I too have a slightly sore, burning anus!

stayathomegardener I have been taking sambucol but all info I can find online says it’s a good thing to take as long as in liquid form not the gummies.

Aurea · 20/03/2020 11:26

Oh dear. Why not the gummies?

Kahlua4me · 20/03/2020 11:45

Have just found some info on sambucol and covid19, some research has found that it can over produce cytokines within our immune system which then attack themselves. Obviously that is very rough translation!

Feeling slightly scared now as I have been taking it regularly over last few weeks but stopped a day or so ago. Not taking it again!

ShastaBeast · 20/03/2020 11:50

I don’t know which day I’m on. I recall having the weird sore throat which felt like my throat was closing up but not sure when. I was snotty with saw throat, headache and sleeping more (which I put down to post exam exhaustion and trying melatonin but it’s not helping me sleep this week).

I guess day 1 was around Wednesday last week so now day 9. Otherwise I started the chest sensation and slight cough on Sunday. So day 5.

I can hear the builders working next door and one has started coughing. They’ve been working three weeks and only heard the cough this week. Either another cough virus is around or London must have loads more cases than the tested times 10.
