My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Out of interest, how many people who have a tight/heavy/burning chest, dry cough, and/or sore throat but no other symptoms have been taking zinc and vitamin C supplements or black elderberry extract (Sambucol)?

Countrygirl38 · 20/03/2020 00:29

Going overground - I have been taking these and have some symptoms but not a fever

goingoverground · 20/03/2020 00:40

Are you in or near a COVID-19 hotspot or London, countrygirl?

goingoverground · 20/03/2020 00:43

Or have any other reason to think you might have coronavirus, eg been to Italy/Spain/China/South Korea etc, in contact with someone who has had symptoms, a positive test, or travelled recently?

DandyPenguin · 20/03/2020 00:57

Glad to have found this, I'm joining you all unfortunately!

Got 'diagnosed' over phone by NHS Direct doctor today.

My main symptom is a very deep pressure on and restrictiveness around my chest - it's constant but does get worse at times.
Shortness of breath, my lungs definitely feel they're working harder and are tired.
Very dry persistent cough.
Sore throat.
Swollen glands.
Very fatigued, I get tired very easily from any exertion, not that I'm doing much as I'm resting.

It all started yesterday and today is definitely worse. I'm still OK, but I can feel myself succumbing.

My family are all in self-isolation for 14 days starting from today, and I'm trying to keep out of the way from the rest of them and am using a different toilet.

One thing I don't have is a fever. I'm a little warm but not at fever point, and it's interesting that quite a few people on here don't have one either.

I really think the Govt need to make it clear that you don't need both a fever and a persistent cough to think you have it and to go into quarantine - one or the other is enough to signify you need to self-isolate.

DandyPenguin · 20/03/2020 00:58

Oh and I have an underlying health condition so have been told to keep an eye on my breathing and chest pain but I'm OK at home at the moment.

I also have the slightly burning eye thing.

Moknicker · 20/03/2020 01:06

Ive been doing zinc vit C, VitD and sambucol @goingoverground

goingoverground · 20/03/2020 01:11

Do you have a temperature, swollen glands, or any other symptoms, @Moknicker? Or just tight/heavy/burning chest, dry cough, and/or sore throat? Are you in London or another hotspot?

ShastaBeast · 20/03/2020 01:11

I have burning eye feeling when I close them. The symptoms do seem to come and go, aside from the pressure and burning sensation in my chest. No fever but chills earlier and flushed face a few times. Sore throat returned for a short time. Coughing makes it worse, really raw inside. I’m trying to not cough. Went for a drive and my chest was super tight in the car due to the position. Lying down or standing is better.

I read something about day 10-14 potentially being the point it could worsen or improve. Useful information on symptoms is hard to find, more so due to lack of testing.

Moknicker · 20/03/2020 01:40

Im in the US in a hotspot @goingoverground.
No temp or swollen glands. Sore throat, back pain, headache and burning chest (which resolves with antacid). No fever as well. Some coughing.
Im doing the steam inhalation, salt watergargle, plenty of liquids and ligh exercise. It also helps that im flat out at work analyzing covid response on my company so that keeps me busy (and mumsnet)

bandbsmummy · 20/03/2020 01:46

Both my DCs are coughing away and have been all week. Definitely worse today. DS keeps waking himself up and crying. He's only 11 months.

Both DH and I are ok at the moment but should I be calling 111 for him? He's very mucusy to the point of being sick, but that's not a symptom is it?

TheWooisStrong · 20/03/2020 02:59

Woke at 2am in a hot sweat. Wee, drink of water, and horrible chills next. Racing pulse (81)
Just typing in here to try and keep myself calm.

Kahlua4me · 20/03/2020 04:09

goingoverground I have been taking sambucol.

I currently have tight chest, intermittent cough and shivers. I woke up feeling very hot and clammy but thermometer says 36.3^ and oxymeter says oxygen is 98...

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2020 05:16

goingunderground
Yes. All of them.

I know a toxicologist. She advised me for Covid to take iodine, NAC, licorice extract (not for long term use, check the side effects), lipo C, zinc, keep my potassium levels up.

I also detailed my experience with the nebuliser and get tumbleweed.

It really pisses me off that NAC isn’t sold in chemists as a standard cough remedy and used in this country Gps. It is abroad. It’s as common as paracetamol in France. There is no appetite for pharma to get the licensing as it’s very cheap.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2020 05:18

Liposomal C.

AscotHat · 20/03/2020 05:53

Binkyandbunty - interesting reading. I've have convinced myself, and have scared my father in the process, that I have had a mild form of it. I woke up one morning to a scratchy/dry throat that went away before I'd got up or into the shower. Either way, it didn't last. I think it was the same time I woke up and my blanket was a bit wet, either I've been sweating or the dog peed on it! I also found myself a bit out of puff..... nothing major, not struggling, its just there. Thats still there and it's been nearly two weeks. Sore head on and off - that is pretty standard for me. The shoulder aches come with the headaches tho I can reguarly be found with a heatpack on my neck and shoulders.

I have convinced myself that I have had this CV and because I've been going to work I'm convinced I've spread it to everyone and they're all going to die. Last night was quite traumatic... I went into meltdown on my poor dad, crying that I'd infected him (I live with him) and everyone else. Being in his 70s with underlying conditions is not something he needs. I get that and I feel terrible at what I put him through last night. What he didn't see was me rolling on the bed, terrified, and thinking the only thing for me to do now would be to leave this earth.

I have been awake most of the night in a state of constant panic.

JollyHostess · 20/03/2020 05:56

I've been feeling increasingly unwell for a few days, it's crept up very very slowly.
I've been awake a few hours with chills and body aches.
I have an occasional weird sensation in my chest/lungs but no breathlessness, sore throat or cough.

The main symptoms I have are the aches and pains and lethargy.

Could it be CV? Or just some other virus?

Enough4me · 20/03/2020 05:56

I've been awake with a dry cough for an hour, but temperature went back to normal at end of day. I'm still doubting it is Covid19, but it's dry, I'm out of breath walking up and down stairs and feels like heartburn across my chest. Neither of my DC have symptoms.

Enough4me · 20/03/2020 06:03

Jolly I think without a test there is no way to know, as we can all get regular chest infections and flu. I'm assuming it is C19 and in for 14 days with my DC as better to be cautious, but really 50.50 this could be a regular chest infection for me. Made worse by stress!

Casino218 · 20/03/2020 06:57

Most viruses colds, flu make your nose run, you sneeze. They do not directly affect your lower respiratory tracts and lungs. So assume if coughing, short of breath etc that this is not a run of the mill cold. Isolate please.

Aurea · 20/03/2020 08:15

@goingunderground and @moknicker.

I have had pressure in my upper chest and between my shoulder blades and burning sensations since Tuesday. My glands are up, my throat a little lumpy and I feel a bit wobbly. No other typical symptoms. I live in an area where there have been a moderate number of cases.

I have been taking various things including:
Sambucol
Zinc
Vit C
VIt D
Colloidal silver
Herbal tea for respiratory system which includes Wild Thyme, Hibiscus, Marjoram, Wild sage, neem leaf and Fennel.

Why do you ask about the vit C, zinc and sambucol? Do you think there is a connection?

KayakingOnDown · 20/03/2020 08:36

Slept well by on waking my lungs feel constricted as ever. I'm conscious of every breath I take.

One thing my GP confirmed was that this is not just asthma as I'm not actually wheezing and the blue inhaler does nothing. He said to keep taking the preventer/brown inhaler though, morning and evening.

Busymummy16 · 20/03/2020 09:17

I’ve had very similar symptoms to all on here. Also very conscious of each breath. My toddler has been in a bad way but seems a little better today. My other two children have a slight cough now and my eldest also has aches and pains and lying on sofa washed out.
A friend has been told by the GP she probably has it too and very similar symptoms.
We are in London.

longshot · 20/03/2020 09:18

@goingoverground why did you ask about what people are taking out of interest? Sorry if you’ve already said this upthread, I just can’t find it.

I’ve not taken anything other than a few zinc and vit c lozenges when my throat was sore (it’s not now). I’ve been eating well, my DH is w health nut so he’s been making me but other than that not taken anything.

Oh I do take magnesium also but always take that.

Update from me on day 10: chest much less tight, much less breathless but still exhausted. When I woke I felt like I had been on a massive night out or something, really groggy but not so bad now.

Not planning to do anything today (again!!) but have managed to put my make up on and do some crafts with the kids. Hoping I’m over the worst but keep really worrying that a) this isn’t Covid 19 and I’ve been exposed to when I went to hospital and b) it is is I will take a turn for the worse and die.

Hopefully neither of these will happen!!!

Good wishes to all today Smile
