My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Costochondritis is inflammation of the ribcage, and can exist with other conditions as well...

I have been focusing on just dealing with the symptoms rather than worrying too much about what it is (not easy) and stuff that helps.

like painkillers / walks / distraction / heat like baths and hot water bottle

hollieberrie · 19/03/2020 19:34

I also thought it was costochondritis or early pregnancy symptoms, but as i felt worse i realised it was more likely the virus. Am pretty sure its CV, i honestly felt so bad at time. Very relieved to feel better now. Sending get well wishes to everyone.

rowyaboat · 19/03/2020 19:43

I'm not sure if I have the virus.

I cough every 2-3 hours, just to clear my throat though which is just a bit stuffy. I also find it harder to breathe. I can't take in much air and my chest feels heavy. I've never had breathing problems before.

Can someone reassure me that it's not covid-19?

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 19:44

Im just worried In going downhill ams dont know at what point to call someone and what they then do...

notangelinajolie · 19/03/2020 19:46

Day 9. I've felt much better today. I even has a spurt of energy and put some washing in. Still have a high temperature but my chest is not as tight. Got a bit of a headache this afternoon when my fever went up to 38.5.

I've probably overdone it a bit because now I'm feeling tired and a little breathless. My back and chest have started to ache again so I'm going to have an early night.

I think my DD has it. Her temperature was higher than mine. She's in denial and thinks there is nothing wrong with her. She is making plans to meet her boyfriend later - how on earth am I going to make her take this seriously and stay home.

notangelinajolie · 19/03/2020 19:50

Sounds like it @rowyaboat

@angell84 how are you feeling?

GinJeanie · 19/03/2020 19:54

notanjelinajolie - please please stop your daughter from meeting her boyfriend. This is exactly how it's spreading so quickly... 😪

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/03/2020 19:59

@fafffaffmorefaff
You asked about steam. The game changer for me is nebulising saline. This lubricates the airways and keeps things flowing.

Nebulisers, usually easy to get hold of are like hens teeth atm - I’ve bought 3 for people so I know... It’s a COPD protocol. If you get hold of a nebuliser (try eBay, prices are inflated..), the recipe is one cup (230ml) to half a tsp salt. Boil in pan for 15 mins. Store solution in fridge and discard after 24 hours. This is more than enough for 2 people to nebuliser 3 times a day for 15ish mins. Don’t exceed 3 x / day. This is an approx 1% salt solution. Nebuliser saline is sold in up to 6% salt so theoretically could do more if necessary to help things move but could cause irritation. I’m also taking supplements - notably NAC, an antioxidant, which I buy from amazon. This breaks down mucus. Used for chronic respiratory conditions, bronchitis, copd, cystic fibrosis.

Day 4 here. Doing the above and my cough is nearly gone. I feel so much better today. Kept on completely running out of energy the past couple of days. Will be continuing for 3 days after the cough has completely gone. Got my friend doing the same, who was a lot worse than me and 111 / the Gp was getting worried and she’s on the mend.

Been nebulising for 4 years now whenever ill No longer get bronchitis or sinusitis, which I got several times a year.

TheYearOfTheDog · 19/03/2020 20:00

@SquashedFlyBiscuit is your asthma viral exacerbated or not?

SchrodingersKitty · 19/03/2020 20:00

@SquashedFlyBiscuit: I'm really sorry you are feeling anxious and unwell. What day are you on? I think the best thing is to go through the 111online service, and perhaps the 111 phone service too and follow the advice there.

Panic can make breathing worse: have you tried opening a window and / / or sitting in a steamy bathroom, or putting a hot waterbottle to your back? I really hope you feel better soon: just remember that most people do recover from this without needing hospital treatment.

findingschools4myboys · 19/03/2020 20:02

Going to bed shortly. Suddenly perked up ever so slightly this evening but then suddenly felt nauseous and tired and chest playing up again. I think nauseous cause I am barely eating.

@SquashedFlyBiscuit don’t worry about that for now! Although easier said than done as I have been there for past few days. I think I am day 9 today. I spoke to my sons respiratory doctor earlier and asked advice on my behalf. He said if you feel breathless by just lying in bed or cannot finish a sentence then you should probably call 111 and be seen. I think it will be very noticeable if you are going downhill. Try not to think about it - my doc who is at one of the large London hospitals says that most people even on ventilators are doing well and will recover.

maryannesdale · 19/03/2020 20:02

Coronavirus question...I have been reading msgs about the heavy chest feeling high up in the middle and high end of chest. I have this feeling of congestion and tightness in that area. Other than that and being a little tired, I feel fine. Has anyone with these symptoms gotten tested? I would like to get tested but don't know how I can.

Radarred · 19/03/2020 20:03

Rowy I had very similar symptoms to you in December. It last 3 days. Hospital checked me and everything was ok. I hope it passes quickly for you.

goingoverground · 19/03/2020 20:07

Costochondritis is a sharp pain not the heaviness/tightness/burning that a lot of people have been describing.

tempestterra · 19/03/2020 20:09

findingschools. I know you directed your reply to squashedflies but can I also say thank you. That's made me feel a bit brighter. I'm finding it hard not to worry about my children if anything happens to me, or worrying if my children get ill with it. I know for children it's meant to be mild, but it's such an unknown. But thank you again for posting.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 20:11

Hi I think Im day 3 or 4. Mild cough monday. My asthma wasnt brilliantly controlled and I've just been given a stronger preventer inhaler I've started today. My asthma is worse with virusea and with anxiety but I hate it not feeling better after an i haler. Ive got a sats meter and thats okay. I just feel like im not getting a deep breath. Last year it was awful with a chest i fection. I normally get steroids but local gp on phone said she couldn't prescrive with covid but there were other inhaler options. Ive just had a lemsip. I dont like it. Im so scared it will go downhill fast and that because im v.obese the ventilotor wotn work. Or ill go jnto hosptial amd catch it. We've self isoalywd internationally witha plan to for the 12 weeks but that dependwd on me being well to start with 🙄. Is nhs overloaded yet. Im scared i wouldnt get treated once it is after reading obesity threas.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 20:13

Tempest. Im hapy my kids will probably be okag and husband is super healthy but terrified of saying "mums got to go to hosptial " and not coming back Sad

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 20:14

Let's not forget we have doctors and nurses with great expertise. Most people with virus will recover so try to keep it in perspective.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 20:17

Thanks casino x

Superbrew · 19/03/2020 20:17

Today, and its day 16 for me, I had burning eyes . Last 2 days I've had a sore throat and tongue that keeps coming and going.

DorsetCamping · 19/03/2020 20:17

DM had exact same symptoms and ended up in hospital last June.
She has convinced herself it was Coronovirus - is that even possible being that long ago??

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 20:19

No I doubt it. Too long ago.

Superbrew · 19/03/2020 20:24

I think it's too much of a coincidence reading all this, that it could be something else . Especially considering it seems to be world wide symptoms let alone uk. The chest thing is striking. When I had that pain I honestly thought it was heart related. I even made an appointment for the dr to check my heart- which is on monday now over phone. I am going to ask her.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 20:31

Ive gelt like elaphant is on my chest for a few weeks. I even went to the dr as it wasnt my usual asthma symptom and she said all my obs were fine maybe it was anxiety. But it was pre my crazy anxiety about this as it was a couple of weeks ago...

Superbrew · 19/03/2020 20:33

I got it as well couple of weeks ago squashedflybiscuit. I think they need to be much clearer with the symptoms as I'm sure we are all walking around spreading it. Especially they say the symptoms develop slowly. Took me 2 days from having chest pain to then start coughing.
