My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

I was *having a heart attack

TheWooisStrong · 19/03/2020 18:01

6pm and I had a not bath, came over a bit faint and had to get out. Feel very tired and headachey. Chest a little tight but not as bad as last night.
I’m riding this all out without any paracetamol or other drugs (inc alcohol), hoping my immune system will get on with things.
Rest. Fluids. Chicken Soup.

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 18:03

Why are people not self isolating.

The virus can enter via the eye. That is why itchy eyes can be a sign. Just google corona virus entry eyes!

Mydogdoesntlisten · 19/03/2020 18:05

I've found the link to the article I mentioned earlier:
www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-environment/article/3075170/i-was-stupidly-overconfident-south-korean-coronavirus

screamer1 · 19/03/2020 18:05

I've had a headache for 3 days and sore throat for over a week, now swollen gland and sore throat, but no temp or cough.

No likely to be corona?

Orangeblossom78 · 19/03/2020 18:06

Interesting how many of us don't meet the criteria of continuous new cough and high temp but have lots of other symptoms

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 18:10

Some other symptoms

tempestterra · 19/03/2020 18:11

I'm sure the NHS111 guidelines are not right. Also I'm sure this is CV. I wish some health experts would pick up on this, because I'm sure people aren't self-isolating because they haven't got the 'typical' symptoms. We are isolating. But it's thanks to this thread, that I recognised my vice like chest and lungs on fire fitted with many peoples accounts on here.

I find this thread really positive, especially when people post of getting better. Thank you to all who update with positive stories Thanks

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 18:13

@mydog that's scary as I currently have virus and thinking I could just get worse suddenly

tangledyarn · 19/03/2020 18:17

I think I'm on day 12/14 ish (hard to know exactly because i just had a sore throat for a few days then nothing then flu type symptoms for a couple of days then the chest/lung stuff started) I keep thinking I'm on the mend but then having episodes of feeling really awful, really breathless, high heart rate, more wheezy so am not sure where I am with it. I have basically just been in bed for a week now. Tommorow is another day I guess!

Mydogdoesntlisten · 19/03/2020 18:21

Casino- try not to think about that.
I am about three weeks down the line from initial symptoms and back to normal now.
People will overwhelmingly get better from this and not end up in hospital- I have other health issues but had no complications (assuming it was CV).
I hope you feel better soon.

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 18:26

Try to not stay in bed. Pneumonia is the difference between recovery and critical illness. Therefore get up frequently, walk around, deep breaths, expand lungs.

longshot · 19/03/2020 18:28

@Mydogdoesntlisten - We need more stories like yours! Even though I do feel quite a bit better today I have still spent much of the day in bed and I am concerned I may well get worse again....day 8...

Casiocalc · 19/03/2020 18:29

I’d posted further up the thread when I originally started with strange symptoms but I’ve changed my username since,

DD (17) had a very heavy cold over the weekend before last. Her illness lasted around 5 days and was a typical cold, running nose, congestion, slight cough but no temperature.

A day or so after that I started to feel like I was coming down with the same cold, the worst part was the backache, right in the middle of my back. I felt chills now and again and then developed a sore throat. I also had an ulcer at the back of my tongue. I felt tired and drained, slight headache and slight cough.

The symptoms seemed to wax and wane over the week, sore throat would come and go, backache would come and go cough on and off, occasionally I’d feel strange and my face would go hot or I’d feel chilly.

One night, I woke in bed and my whole lungs felt like they were burning - I felt it bloom in my chest and then fade away. Yesterday I felt a bit better but today again I had the chills and backache. Today, a week after the original symptoms started my windpipe feels itchy and irritated and I’m coughing more. I felt wheezy and out of breath this afternoon but It faded after an hour and I felt ok again, the overwhelming feeling now is irritation through my chest and that dry cough - like I’ve been out in the cold or over exerted myself.

It’s really strange - no fever, only the occasional chill. No real fatigue, I wonder if it’s anxiety which is then affecting my breathing and tension where I’m holding my back tight. Really odd how we all seem to be having very similar symptoms.

SchrodingersKitty · 19/03/2020 18:30

On the subject of expanding lungs, one curious thing I'm finding, having dug out my peak flow metre (I'm asthmatic) is that my lung capacity seems to be getting better rather than worse. It might be that my technique at using it is improving, but I think it is partly that I have the window open in the room where I am spending my days. I would not normally do so at this time of year, but breathing cool fresh air is helping calm me down and may be soothing my chest (similar to current advice for small children with croup). Still have the lung pain, though.

Rowan8 · 19/03/2020 18:35

I think I’ve been in denial, I’ve had a terrible sore throat since last Saturday, and reckless BIL has symptoms which he’s only admitted to, only dropped a few things to me for seconds, last Thu, but by Sat, it kicked off, throat feels swollen and hard to swallow. Even my med, had a heart attack last year so on all the meds for that plus HBP.
Feels like tonsillitis, scratchy, but yes the pain in my breast bone, never had anything like it, it’s burny, felt a bit bubbly yesterday, and another flutter of it today happens.

No temperature, have had the sudden sharp headache which goes after a minute or two... no cough at all..

So it’s been 6 days the same, not lessened or worsened.

How has it spread so fast. I think I have it.. 🥺🥺🥺. Is it one of those things we’re all going to get it no matter what..?

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 18:35

I chatted to my respiratory nurse specialist friend and she said avoid stale air. So I've put my air purifier on.

Cailleach · 19/03/2020 18:58

Day 8-ish for me. Went for a walk this morning and felt the cool air did me good. Felt ok for a while but have been on and off with chills and breathlessness all day. Was quite dizzy this evening at one point.

Have lost four pounds in five days despite trying to eat plenty.

All very odd.

Tisahardlife · 19/03/2020 18:58

I'm wondering if I could be on day 1 (or if I'm worrying unnecessarily, though I believe I was exposed to CV a week ago today) and wondered if anyone has experienced the following:

Last night I was quite happy at my laptop (not feeling stressed or anxious) and suddenly my throat felt strange, it felt numb like a dentists numbing injection had been administered and it felt like it was closing up a bit. My lungs and breathing capacity was fine but I did feel a little faint and like getting air through my throat was harder than usual. This feeling eased but the numb feeling hung around and gradually wore off this morning.

This morning I had 2 boughts of coughing as if I'd been exercising in the cold outdoors, a dry involuntary cough, but no coughing since.

I am now feeling lethargic and breathless from walking up the stairs and have a headache that feels a bit like a hangover or like I'm a bit woolly.

Has anyone experienced anything similar in the early days or am I putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5?

Stay safe and well everyone Smile

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 19:03

@Tisahardlife you have it. Isolate.

SchrodingersKitty · 19/03/2020 19:14

@Casino218: Just wondering if you've had a test to confirm that you have it and what your symptoms are - I'm sure you said upthread but I went back a few pages and couldn't find anything. It would be very useful to know who has had confirmation and with what symptoms. (I am definitely isolating, on day 8/9 I think).

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 19:16

No you don't get tested so very few people have absolute confirmation but this virus is extremely infectious and given I have new dry cough, ache, blocked nose, tiredness, slight shortness of breath - talking to friend who are respiratory nurses. I'm going to safely assume it is the virus.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 19:20

If we have dry cough, tiredness, the sore throat, and breathlessness thats managea le..
. How long can you have that for before it "turns downhill" as in is there a day you jnow you're "safe?" Im terrified of needing ventilation as im morbidly obese/asthmatic...

UtterTwaddle · 19/03/2020 19:20

I’m on day 7 of the awful chest pain thing. Saw the doctor today and apparently it’s costochondritis. It really hurts!

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/03/2020 19:29

So does thwt mean ite not cv? Or a side effevt of it?
