My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Thing is we can share these chest pains symptoms as much as we like but not one of us has been tested so no idea if any of us are actually positive

I'd go with how many of us.

Testing would bring a lot of general peace of mind. It would also allow many to take up the slack in a range of fields from later sufferers with little fear. I want to get stuck in not bounce off the walls.

It's after midnight so I'm on day 6 of symptoms. It's getting better. My guess is that it will be all but gone by day 8 or 9 at this rate. My fever is not much above normal, coughing is less, foul mouth is just nasty mouth taste and the upper chest discomfort is less, but like nothing I have ever had before.

BinkyandBunty · 19/03/2020 00:41

Checking in from the other side of the world (Australia) with the same burning chest and upper back, and shortness of breath after a brief walk.

My other symptoms have been the mildest of temperatures, headaches, cough and sore throat.

I managed to convince the powers that be to swab me for covid 19 today - will report back with the results in a few days. My GP won't examine me for other potential causes until I'm officially clear of the virus.

I’ve been waiting most of the day for a doctor from 111 to call me as my teenage dd has been ill since last Friday evening but deteriorated today. It’s really scary to watch how poorly she’s been. Her symptoms fluctuate in terms of temperature but the dry cough is constant and she’s completely exhausted. Today she started to have lots of pain in her chest and it hurts to breathe in. Doctor advised her to increase her asthma inhaler (reliever) by significant amount, to sleep propped up, only take paracetamol and to seek further advice if she worsens. Likely cause is CV but cannot obviously confirm without going to hospital. The whole household has also been told that we must self isolate for 14 days after her symptoms have gone. It’s been a horrible day, watching my darling girl so weak, coughing so hard and having little respite. My heart goes out to anyone who’s feeling poorly or worried tonight.

notangelinajolie · 19/03/2020 02:02

Yes to the chest pain, back pain and not being able to breath.

But this is really wierd, it's all gone away Shock

I felt really rubbish this afternoon. Temp hit 38.5 and I felt really rubbish. So I rang 111. I was on hold for 1 hour 55 mins before getting a message to say there was a system failure and to call back later. I was literally on my knees crying and considering asking DH to take me to A&E.

I decided to go back to bed and I've just woken up and I feel like nothing ever happened.

Is that it? Am I better or is this is the lull before the storm?

nachthexe · 19/03/2020 02:06

Ah binky, good skills. Did they say how long for results? It’s about four days here.

nachthexe · 19/03/2020 02:07

Oh sky, that’s so worrying. Poor kid.

BinkyandBunty · 19/03/2020 02:18

@nachthexe about the same I think, 3-5 days.

BTW a swab test is NOT a fun procedure, so I'm taking one for the Mumsnet team here Grin

Nightwriter2017 · 19/03/2020 02:21

Hello. Sad to be joining this thread as am in same situation as lots of you. Had heavy chest for a few days and v v sore throat. No cough. Thought I was ok and then an hour ago woke up shivering and sweating and temp and feel horrific. Can't believe how bad I feel. Hope this will ease soon. Hugs to all.

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 03:36

@longshot I started with a cough some time ago. Maybe 2 weeks ago.Really itchy eyes so I started my eye drops, felt so tired, no temp though. Then DH got diarrhoea, and minor temp, he stayed off work for 2 days. We didn't think it was CV as diarrhoea never mentioned as a symptom then. My cough has just persisted but now temp cough seems to get worse the odd time through day, plus a feeling of little fires in my lungs. I've self isolated now but suspect it's been with me since cough started. How are you now?

clairethewitch70 · 19/03/2020 03:40

Day 15 here. Just come off the phone to 111 and one-off the questions she asked me was my lungs burning. I had phoned due to bouts of breathlessness and the length of time I have had it. The length may be due to my fibromyalgia making the recovery longer. Two doctors had now said that it sounds very much like CV. She said it was a good indication that I have stopped having temperature spikes after the first few days. I had got myself very anxious as the recovery is taking so long and I keep relapsing and looking at all the day by day accounts on line

clairethewitch70 · 19/03/2020 03:41

Casino. I have had bouts of diarrhoea too.

Skybluepink123 · 19/03/2020 04:33

My dd has had bouts of diarrhoea too. She’s just woken me to say how much she’s struggling to breathe properly and her chest feels sore. It’s so worrying. I know she’s really scared, the temporary mortuaries being set up was shown on the news and she saw. My heart breaks for her. All I can do is sit by her bed for reassurance and follow the medical advice which the 111 doctor gave us at 11pm last night. It’s so hard to know when to press the panic button and seek further advice/go to hospital. This is now day 6 for her.

EricaNernie · 19/03/2020 04:59

not sure if i am having a fever or hot flushes!
have shortness of breath,
could barely sleep
woke up shivering, but it is cold

Orangeblossom78 · 19/03/2020 05:30

Mine comes and goes also, yesterday thought had gone but seems back now. and shivery feeling. after about 2 weeks..

I too would very much like to be tested. however I wondered maybe about sharing anything which helped the symptoms as a start

i wondered about a sore throat spray but not sure. has anything like that helped people with the sore throat? or gargling with TCP. Seems so little advice.

clairethewitch70 · 19/03/2020 05:43

Anxiety is fuelling my breathlessness. Bloody media scaring us all with the talk of ventalitors and temporary morgues. I am also worried about my mum who lives in an annex to our house. She has symptoms. The night before my symptoms appeared she was fitting my handfasting dress on me she is making. That is cancelled too. Mum is 82 and has bronchiactasis and diabetes and is immune suppressed for rheumatoid arthritis. I feel so guilty infecting her.

Orangeblossom78 · 19/03/2020 05:49

Anxiety can make this feel worse I agree. I'm trying calm breathing to try and help it, not easy though

Skybluepink123 · 19/03/2020 06:04

The anxiety is definitely a factor for my dd. She watched the news earlier and saw the temporary morgues being set up in London. It’s horrific and this, together with feeling so breathless and weak, is making her feel so scared. I’ve just called 111 for further advice as the previous doctor had said to use her asthma inhaler 4 times the usual dose to hopefully help with breathlessness. It hasn’t hence the call back to 111. Is it fair to say that this illness fluctuates? My dd has felt slightly stronger, no fever and less breathless and then suddenly her temperature spikes, pain in chest and slightest exertion causes real breathlessness.

HRH2020 · 19/03/2020 06:18

I've also had mild symptoms
Chills and temp (hot face)
Minor sore throat on and off
Aches and pains
Nausea no appetite
Yesterday chest pains and heavy chest breathless for about 30 mins
Today is day 4 I wish I knew what it was as one of my kids is high risk

EricaNernie · 19/03/2020 06:23

i barely slept, i kept waking up forgetting to breath.
i guess it is anxiety?

Orangeblossom78 · 19/03/2020 06:23

I took some of the stronger co-codomol and it has helped, not ideal I guess feel quite floaty now. I have it for another health condition.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 19/03/2020 06:29

Those of you with breathlessness - do any of you feel short of breath even though you aren’t struggling to breathe? It’s odd - there is certainly no issue for me with air flow but it feels like I am short of breath nonetheless. It’s worse when I move around but even lying down it’s still noticeable.

hopefulhalf · 19/03/2020 06:40

Both DC have had snotty nose/ sore throat for a few days. No temp although no thermometer so how would you know ? But didn't feel hot no persistant cough.

Last night I started to get fevery chills. Thought I was imagining, it but DH said I felt hot and overnight the feel your back/ chest thing was definately positve.

Does that sound like CV, have had a very mild sore throat this week as well.

Flipreverseit · 19/03/2020 06:43

I’ve had the slightest of ‘thick’ throats since the weekend.
Chest feels like I’ve done a hill sprint but nothing that would usually bother or scare me
Glands in neck very slightly up.
Wat the end of last week I felt complexly drained and out of it.
Bit of a headache
No cough or temperature

Does this sound familiar? I keep thinking it’s psychosomatic but I’m pretty sure I would have registered these symptoms at any other time (although they wouldn’t concern me)

In many ways I’m really hoping that this is it, especially if it doesn’t get any worse.

The waiting to get it is one of the worst parts.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/03/2020 06:53

Skyblue
How is your dd this morning? Have you heard from 111?

Binky
Thank you. We really appreciate you taking one for the team over here!

Fliprevisit
Mine started with a bit of a cold and sore throat for a few days. I’m always wiped out with that sort of thing due to poor health. Didn’t check my temperature. A few days later I felt better. Then my glands came up when I was just coughing occasionally more because of the scratchy throat. I don’t remember my lungs feeling tight at that point. But I have chronic fatigue, chronic pain and fibromyalgia so new pain doesn’t really register unless it’s bad tbh because I’m so used to it. That evening is when my lungs started burning like crazy. Obviously I’m just one person. But hth.
