My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

I have had this exact feeling all week (7 days now), and it has been getting progressively worse. Today I have a temperature too, so I don't think there is much doubt that I have it. I've been self-isolating anyway so I'm ok there, but for some stupid reason I'm now scared, whereas I wasn't before?

PatsyStone39 · 17/03/2020 15:50

i have exactly the same thing going on. It started last week with a feeling of glass in my throat that went away rather quickly. The following day my 17month old started coughing, had a temp then a runny nose.

With the latter presenting, i thought, great, we both have a cold. But now i have the tightest feeling chest, constant stabbing pains in my lungs/ribs. Last Wednesday night about 3am i woke suddenly feeling like I couldn't breath. It shook me so much that I stayed up. Today I went for a short walk in the park and my lungs are burning, like i've been running a marathon. But I don't feel ill, as such. Not like I have a flu or cold. It's all so odd.

I am 38, healthy, fit, and never really had anything like this. The best i can liken it to is when i once had pleurisy.

Elephantgrey · 17/03/2020 15:51

orangeblossom when I first started feeling ill last week I genuinely thought I had been poisoned.

The 2 phases is interesting as I had a day of feeling better then feeling poorly again. I also have a (metaphorical) elephant sitting on my chest. DS and I have noticeably red cheeks. I am on day 9.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 15:56

Yes it is quite similar to the one time in the past the GP said I had pleurisy also.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 16:13

Oh, just to mention I found those 'for flu' type tablets quite helpful, and mice did not get worse it has just stayed the same.

Oh also fatigue, really bad tiredness, at the same time as not sleeping much. but very zombie like

somewheretom · 17/03/2020 16:22

I have had chest burning since last Thursday, not any other symptom! It feels like heartburn just higher- mine comes and goes!

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2020 16:51

My chest is heavy again. Bugger.

I would feel less stressed if I could have the test. Mainly because if I felt like an elephant was sat on my chest on a normal day I would have booked a GP appointment. It feels so wrong to not seek medical advice. I mean how can anyone know they've not got something else that needs treating? Can we pay for it somewhere?

And bless her my DD has hunted for hours to get me some soluble Co-codamol and finally found some in a little chemist about 5 miles away.

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2020 16:56

I am finding the pursed lip breathing mentioned upthread helpful. (or google) staying calm helps also

Me too @Orangeblossom78

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 17/03/2020 17:05

Mine feels heavier today as if Im struggling to take abreath. oximeter is okay and bizarely peak flow. It feels like Im not breathing though.

I'm getting so scared this is it. I keep thinking if this is it what ought I to do to make it less stressful for my kids. Im so scared

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 17:15

The thing is getting scared just make us breathe faster / panicky. Breathing slowly can help with staying calm. Not easy I know.

Of course if really breathless should call a doctor I guess

Maybe staying calm and trying some of the techniques above might help. I do know what you mean though it is making me anxious as well, along with the not knowing.

hollytom · 17/03/2020 17:37

I have also got this symptom and it is really unpleasant especially as normally you could go to your GP.
It makes me feel a bit better that other people have this symptom. Feeling fed up and I’m only on day 4.

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 19:05

Can I ask those of you who have it, in how short a period of time did you realise you have it. was it like a cough and then you forgot about it for a while until later?
what's the time span

hollieberrie · 17/03/2020 19:13

Chest pain started on Fri. And some nausea and diahorrea over the weekend. Dry cough started yest and thats when i realised.

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 19:18

Oh wow, so it took two days after symptoms to even piece together that you had 'it'.

hollieberrie · 17/03/2020 19:19

Yes, I intially thought it was an accidental pregnancy Grin
Are you feeling poorly?

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 19:21

Well, I have coughed a few times and I realised, I'm sitting here reading a thread about corona virus and I have coughed a few times (tickly) and it didn't occur to me that I might have it. I have just made a cup of tea. I feel fine. I think it was just a tickly cough from sitting inside. House getting a bit airless with 3 of us not opening and closing the front door at all.

Hope you're ok.

FromEden · 17/03/2020 19:31

Mine feels heavier today as if Im struggling to take abreath. oximeter is okay and bizarely peak flow. It feels like Im not breathing though.

This could also be anxiety. If your blood oxygen is at peak then you're fine.

An update here, I spoke to my GP today, he said based on my symptoms and age and health it sounds very likely to be coronavirus. I was quite surprised because I was wondering if it might be a chest infection but he said not with the way I’m describing it.

He also said the town I’m near have a few confirmed cases, I live in a rural village and there are also cases there. He also there are thousands of suspected cases in the area now. This makes me think it’s definitely likely. Last week I travelled a bit and met various people in meetings etc.

The advice is rest, isolate (whole family), call 111 if breathing becomes laboured. Don’t take ibuprofen.

Getting this advice has relieved me in a way, I’ve probably got it but I will hopefully recover.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 19:39

My DH also had a call back form the GP in having it a couple of weeks ago. They rang back within 15 mins. Anyway they weren't sure, but gave some antibiotics (as DH said he felt it was like a past chest infection) as sometimes these can help if a chest infection follows a viral one. Anyway I picked up the prescription form the chemists.

Just to say yes, it is possible to speak to the GP not just 111. If you call them and ask for a phone back, rather than go in.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 19:39

Oh god I think I have it.

Diorah but not not excessive. Now feel very tired and jittery.

Had a hot wave going over me.

Felt a bit dizzy is this the start?

I spent all day chopping food for the freeze will it have to be thrown away

ANuggetOfTheFinestGreen · 17/03/2020 19:41

Bollocking bollocks. I have a tickly cough and a permanent urge to cough and a heavy chest. I've got it, haven't I? No temperature however.

Sunshine1239 · 17/03/2020 19:43

My chest burning and cough started a week ago and was lingering for 8 days (noticeable yes but not too sore/cough not regular - could still work ) til today when it’s really ramped up. My temp is only just starting now

I’ve had minor - not persistent cough and chest burn for 8 days before temp and so I’ve only just isolated 😩

RoseLalique · 17/03/2020 19:51

Is it possible that I have it?

Symptoms are mild:
Cough
Chesty feel
Itchy, sore eyes
Sinus pain
Tired and more out of breath than usual
Sleeping heavily
Pains in joints
Slightly sore throat
Earache
Mild diarrhoea and felt nauseous earlier

But...
No high temp, just a low temp last night
None of the symptoms above are severe
I’m able to keep going all day although I did sleep heavily yesterday afternoon for an hour or so.

I think it’s just a run-of-the-mill cold, but it kind of reminds me of an illness I had three years ago that actually presented Coronavirus-like symptoms, and culminated in pneumonia.

Flowers for all those suffering on this thread.

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 19:52

Oh no @sunshine1239, do your colleagues know? Have any of them mentioned having it?

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 19:53

I'd say you do @RoseLalique
Not I'm a doctor, or a covid-19 expert, but from the outside, it looks like it.
