My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

For about 10 days I haven't felt right. I have symptoms which home and go. I've had a very sore throat, sore ears and chest. Sometimes my chest feels tight, other times it just feels sore. Sometimes I feel noemal. I've been quite tired. No fever (in fact my temperature is lower than usual) and no cough so I suppose I don't self isolate as I don't have those 2 crucial symptoms.

hollieberrie · 17/03/2020 12:30

Yes it comes and goes doesn't it? Get well soon Sally, 10 days sucks.
Also have sore ears. And my cough is mild.

Sunshine1239 · 17/03/2020 12:32

Mine was like that - a week of coming and going but it’s much worse today and my cough is a proper cough

clairethewitch70 · 17/03/2020 12:38

Holle starting to feel better but my DM 82, with bronchiactasis who lives me has now got symptoms.. I am her caregiver but kept away once symptoms started but in a lot of contact before Sad

alloutoffucks · 17/03/2020 12:52

But anyone without a cough or temperature may have another virus. CV isn't the only thing going round.

HairyTesticles · 17/03/2020 12:55

I've been self isolating since Saturday, I have a bad cough, a headache, I'm tired, sore throat, burning chest, pressure on my chest, just feel really run down, and I feel cold, I haven't got a fever my temp is actually 35.4 at the moment Confused

My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else
clairethewitch70 · 17/03/2020 12:58

Hairy mine has been fluctuating between 35.6 & 38.2 Weird isn't it. Just be aware low temperature is also an indicator for sepsis

HairyTesticles · 17/03/2020 12:59

I also have to have the flu jab cause of coeliac disease and possible spleen issues due to Coeliac's. So I don't know if that effects my risk

HairyTesticles · 17/03/2020 13:00

@clairethewitch70 at least it isn't just me! Its all just very weird

clairethewitch70 · 17/03/2020 13:30

My cough has now gone from mucus to dry and my legs are now aching. Feel like I am starting all over again Day 13

hollieberrie · 17/03/2020 14:16

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Claire, I hope shes ok. And you too.

I feel weirdly up and down - the chest pressure is the only constant.

Wishing us all a speedy recovery.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 14:19

Mine has been going on ages for about two weeks.

ArthurMorgan · 17/03/2020 14:27

@Orangeblossom78

I can walk but my chest gets very tight and I'm out of breath very quickly, just on a normal flat walk.

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 17/03/2020 14:28

I have a really heavy feeling in my chest too as well as my back. This is day 3 of symptoms. I'm absolutely shattered too. Hows everyone else?

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 14:29

Feels a bit like being poisoned. Think it may very slowly be improving though. This is after 2 weeks at least

SchrodingersKitty · 17/03/2020 14:36

Joining in late in the day to say I have the same symptoms.

Had a hacking cough and chest infection in last week of Feb and doctor gave me antibiotics as she heard a crackle in lungs. I'm asthmatic so this is quite common. Last Wed evening, around the time chest infection was feeling a bit better I got a very strange sore throat - felt like something hard (like bread crust), was stuck to my soft palate. It progressed to being scratchy over next few days. On Friday I had a sudden hot facial flush that felt like a temperature and lasted for about an hour. I've been feeling low-level fluey. The tightness around the breastbone has been increasing over the last few days, with some spread to my back.

I've been self isolating and sanitising everything and trying to stay away from DH and DS. DH is under investigation for a brain lesion (a whole other story - found in August, keeps disappearing, no idea what it is) and was due to have a lumbar puncture this morning. He told them a few days ago that I was self-isolating and they said it didn't sound like corona virus and to come in. Then after the new advice last night they called and told him to self isolate and they will re-schedule for after 10 days. I can see their point of view given that they are dealing with immuno-compromised patients.

I described my symptoms over text to a friend, who said that a student medic daughter of a friend of hers had exactly the same symptoms and has tested positive. I am now about 7 days in if the cough was the start and the chest tightness is certainly worse, though not as bad as many of you are describing. I am sitting in my study with the window open, snuggled up with a hot water bottle, and constant hot drinks, which does help.

I'm thinking of you all. If this does turn out to be it, we may be glad we got it early.

SchrodingersKitty · 17/03/2020 14:36

Also breathless when I climb stairs, which is not usually the case.

Baaaahhhhh · 17/03/2020 14:46

Just a maybe for some........ tree pollen is a big issue in the South at the moment. I get a heavy wheezy chest every year, and I have it again now. Is it Coronavirus? I don't think so...... I also get GERD, so my throat and bronchial tubes are further irritated by this and the extra pollen, and I cough when I exert, BUT I have been doing this for years, got lung tested last year, but everything is fine except for the irritating cough. It's really difficult to not cough and give everyone a fright Grin.

If I do have Corona as well, it is passing me by, I haven't had any kind of temperature or tiredness though.

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2020 14:48

@angell84 I hope are feeling better today.

Since I have nothing better to do I am watching Patrick Vallance, Government Chief advisor talking to Jeremy Hunt in Parliament Select Committee.

He says we need to ramp up testing. Public sector workers will be tested once they have the capacity. But not for the wider community.

And there are
2 phases of illness
Most people will recover after first phase.
First phase gets better after 5-7 days
Second phase is the immune reaction which is characterised by shortness of breath.
Initial dose of exposure may be important (and why healthy young medical professionals have died, pre existing medical conditions and age all play a part.

And as for me. I did have the tight chest/indigestion pain last night and a fever yesterday afternoon. I'm pleased to report chest is a little better today but then again I'm braless again Smile

Not sure how these phases work for me because I got the tight chest before the sore throat which has just started this morning. On a scale of 1-10 it was about 1 this morning and is now a 2. I'm trying desperately not to let a cough develop because I was in hospital for a coughing related injury at Christmas (internal bleeding) and I do not want that to happen again.

I'm getting headachey again, my temperature is going up again and not quite over the limit but it is getting close so will take a couple of paracetamol and have a gargle with some salt water.

So Day 2 and I'm feeling fine.

Take care everyone.

ANuggetOfTheFinestGreen · 17/03/2020 14:50

Oh shit me, I'm the same! Not been isolating as no cough or fever Confused

TheYearOfTheDog · 17/03/2020 14:51

@angell84 hope you can get to talk to somebody who will be able to assess if you need to be taken in to hospital.

It sounds scary. I really hope you feel better soon.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 15:10

I am finding the pursed lip breathing mentioned upthread helpful. (or google) staying calm helps also. Or counting for 4 in and out.

It does make me think of the BBC video of the chinese woman talking about her episode where she could feel her lungs / breathing etc, sounds very similar.

brassbrass · 17/03/2020 15:29

I never get this chest feeling with hayfever. It's different. Hardly worth mentioning but definitely not my normal chest if that makes sense.

Sleeping well and dreaming a lot too.🤷

SchrodingersKitty · 17/03/2020 15:34

Me too with the heavy sleep and lots of dreams.

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 17/03/2020 15:38

Never get this with hay fever either and I've been suffering from it for years. it's a weird feeling.
