My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Also, in reply to why I haven’t been self isolating: the advice has been to do that if you have a high temperature or a cough. I have had neither (my weird too hot hour or two happened a few weeks ago before this was suggested). I have had a very mild sore throat, one evening of feeling achy and a bit shivery (but no fever) and then a tight burny chest but it’s mild and not causing breathing difficulties at all. Those are not the symptoms we’ve been told to self isolate for, not have I felt anywhere near ill enough to call in sick otherwise (although obviously if I’d had the two symptoms to look out for I’d have stayed off work even if I felt fine with them). DD has been a bit snotty so I assumed she’d given me a bit of a cold that was affecting me
differently.

Another point when I had this last month my glands were really swollen.

I think a lot of winter bugs are still atmroubd but this one is odd as I’d never felt the. Irving before. My gp hadn’t seen anyone else with it either.

alloutoffucks · 17/03/2020 07:22

My DP has a mild version of these symptoms but has gone to work today in a healthcare setting. He is adamant he does not have cv as he does not have a cough and does not feel hot (we don't have a thermometer, tried to get one but they had all sold out). He just thinks I am being over anxious by telling him he might have cv and should self isolate. He just thinks it is a very minor cold.

Luckystar777 · 17/03/2020 07:25

@broadwayb that is strange, mines was like that too but only for 3 minutes. It came on sudden. I could not cool down, I was splashing water from my kitchen tap on myself (and that tap water is like ICE at this time of year) - it was not working. I've never sweat like that in my life. I'm not menopausal either and was not pre or menstrual. I cannot even link it to bad food as my fridge is perfectly cold and hadn't eaten anything that could have caused that. It was a few hours after my dad had visited me but he was feeling fine with zero symptoms (but works in a very busy place). I had teeth out 5 days before it and had had headaches a few days that I couldn't shift which was odd. But the headaches were gone by the time I had the sweats.

Luckystar777 · 17/03/2020 07:27

Oh, you know what else? My chest was pounding, no pressure feeling, just pounding too fast. I considered calling ambulance but once I'd been to the loo I didn't as it all subsided.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/03/2020 07:55

"Last wek you were told to isolate with any flu like symptoms!!!!
"

No, cough or temperature. Tight chest is not a normal flu like symptom.

angel

I'm so sorry - what an awful thing to have to cope with.

I have this chest tightness too and intermittent wheezing but just assumed I’m a massive nervous wreck and it’s anxiety.

I don’t want to isolate my entire family if I’m just anxious! I might knock back n old Valium and see if that helps...

userxx · 17/03/2020 08:10

@TakeANote Do you suffer from hay fever? It fo pop an antihistamine and see if it helps.

TakeANote · 17/03/2020 08:11

Thanks userxx. Not hay fever but asthma. I also work in NHS. Wfm today.

longshot · 17/03/2020 08:24

I forgot to mention the reason I thought this might be CV was that before I started feeling ill I had diarrhoea, It was odd for me as it’s not something I usually have, had not been out to eat etc. Then a few hours later I started with the symptoms mentioned before (achey joints, shivers, exhaustion) which progressed to a slight cough, tight chest sometimes with sharp pains and headaches. I have at points felt less bad (still not well) and been able to walk about, work from home etc, and at other times been glued to sofa / bed. Seems to come in waves.

At no point have I felt as bad as with proper flu which I’ve had twice but it doesn’t feel anything like a cold.

I have self isolated anyway as too Ill to go out so that’s fine but now wondering if DCs should be off too, we’ve decided they should be even though my symptoms don’t ‘fit’. I have not isolated from them this week as it’s impossible in our house.

I don’t know whether to call GP or not, don’t want to hassle them at what must be a very busy time but equally in normal circumstances I would probably go in now because of the chest feeling.

longshot · 17/03/2020 08:25

Oh and I don’t have hay fever or asthma or anything else. Usually fit and healthy.

Katkincake · 17/03/2020 08:27

Gosh I've got the same symptoms. Started with scratchy (not sore) throat, feeling hot on and off but temp has stayed at 36c throughout. Sporadic shortness of breath on the weekend. Symptoms disappeared and then sore throat and an occasional tickly little cough (prob from the throat) have appeared this morning. DH insisted it's just a cold as I'm not coughing all the time and have no temp, so off he trotted to work.
Given the time of year when viruses and colds are prevalent I'm assuming it's something else, as guidance seems adamant that a high temp &/or cough are needed for it to be CV? I'm also in West Yorkshire

Sunshine1239 · 17/03/2020 09:06

I’ve woke up today and my cough is defo worse so we’ve all isolated

I have burning chest and very mild cough for week prior

My chest is way worse this morning

longshot · 17/03/2020 09:17

My cough is also worse today @sunshine1239, still infrequent but deeper and hurts when I cough. My DH has also started feeling ‘sniffly’ so we are all isolating. Him and DC1 have super strong immune systems so it would not surprise me at all if this is CV and I’m just affected more. Or even another virus that’s got me and not them.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 09:22

I'm the same with having the painful chest and breathing, sore throat and headache, but no temp (feeling hot and cold though) or cough..

Do others also have bad heartache, sore throat and aches and pains?

eeehbyegum · 17/03/2020 09:22

OP I’ve been self isolating my family to protect the other part of my family. Kids off school, home with me despite not being unwell. People like you make me feel like an over reactor, an idiot, etc, I hope you feel better soon.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 09:24

Also, i had the idea that mild opiates might help with breathlessness and have some (strong) co-codamol. Might help with pain also. I get these for something else so have hundred of them. However they have side effects like constipation so a bit wary of taking them too much. Any thoughts welcome

hollieberrie · 17/03/2020 09:34

Yes Orange I feel exactly like that.
I'm quite scared. Chest is worse today. Thank God for this thread. Sending get well vibes to everyone.

Zacharyezrarawlings · 17/03/2020 09:45

orangeblossom Opiates can cause respiratory depression so it would be a really, really bad idea to take them of you were feeling breathless.

ArthurMorgan · 17/03/2020 10:04

My mum (who thinks it's a hoax) is going to take my brother to A&E with pleurisy symptoms, he had it before when he was 11 so he thinks he has it now (he's 24). They rang the doctor and he said to self isolate but they're going anyway. I've texted her (she won't answer to me because I'm lying about being sick with it) and told her all of my symptoms and begged her not to go to hospital because they'll infect god knows who and could kill someone. I haven't heard anything back Sad

ShastaBeast · 17/03/2020 10:16

Codeine can suppress coughs but also breathing. Bad idea. Especially if you don’t take them regularly. Opiates also impair the immune system.

Snaptheirfingers · 17/03/2020 10:22

This is me! I returned from Italy a week a go when it went into lockdown. I have a feeling like I've smoked 10 cigarettes, raw chest and slight sore throat as if I've been shouting or talking all evening. The person I travelled back with has the same symptoms. Both of us are self isolating for 14 days according to the advice at the time. She is a medic so I'm hoping she will be tested before returning to work and we will know for sure if it is CV.

TakeANote · 17/03/2020 10:32

Checked with NHS111 but they are sticking to the cough/fever only. So apparently I’m fine to go into work etc which is concerning.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 10:35

I have had this feeling for about two weeks now. It started with the sore throat. DH got ill and had a chest infection, me just this. Wonder how long it lasts for

Also guess need to remember stress / anxiety can cause things like palpitations too, and could be possible to have that also. Going to try some calming breathing exercises.
