How are the brexiteers feeling?

The U.K. will face delays in getting the coronavirus vaccine as a result of our having left the EU. Now that we’re staring down the barrel of tangible consequences for that decision, how are the turkeys who voted for Christmas feeling?

OP posts:
Deelish75 · 16/03/2020 15:53

I thought the UK was working on a vaccine and was nearly there with it.

Genderwitched · 16/03/2020 15:53

This is one of the most desperate things i've ever read on here.

Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 15:53

Maybe you should read that article yourself and follow the links. It’s all based on ‘could’

The guardian has its own agenda and the articles it’s been delivering at the moment are shocking. It’s just as bad as the Daily Mail. I’m not supposed people are trying to show horn this virus in to point scoring over brexit - I’ve seen a few people bleating about on facebook ‘well this is what you voted for - wake up Tory voters blah blah’

Have you thought that the reason you lost was because of people like you?

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 15:54

@Absentwomen and @Megan2018 help me to understand why? Is it because you think people dying is a price worth paying? What benefits do you believe we now have as a result of leaving, and how do they make up for what we have lost?

OP posts:
Findumdum1 · 16/03/2020 15:55

Too soon. but yes, this was my point, when the aliens land / the zombie apocalypse starts / there's a global pandemic, do we want to be part of a large group with significant power to secure resources, provide resources and protect people or do we want to be one crappy little island without much in the way of resources all on it's own.

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 15:56

Sorry, I forgot that Brexiteers don’t accept the well researched and credible views of independent experts! You’re absolutely right, I’m sure that when the chips are down and the EU is deciding who to prioritise for vaccine distribution they’ll let us jump to the front of the queue even though we explicitly rejected the mechanism that would have allowed us to buy them quickly and cheaply.

SilverySurfer · 16/03/2020 15:57

I feel brilliant - thanks so much for asking.

SFS

Absentwomen · 16/03/2020 15:57

No, OP. We haven't withdrawn. UK is in the transition period. Formal withdrawal has begun and the transition period is due to end on December 30th 2020.

Sighs.

sprayandwipealot · 16/03/2020 15:57

I feel fine thanks, still glad we left

same

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 15:57

Gosh, I would love to think I was this influential but sadly I believe that the widespread nationalism and idiocy that led to that outcome was beyond my power to control.

@Rhubarbpeony If you were to phrase this question "Should we put ourselves last on the list when it comes to sharing drugs or a possible vaccine?" most people would say no and they would be right. Trouble is that as soon as you mention Brexit, people fall over themselves to declare it the right decision regardless.

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 15:59

That’s a good point. I think most brexiteers would truly rather die than allow anyone to think they regret their decision.

OP posts:
Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 15:59

Shoehorn**

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/03/2020 16:01

I am a remainer and I suspect politicians will be struck by a healthy dose of pragmatism given that the UK has teams working on a vaccine so could restrict access to any UK vaccines. Also would they really want a load of unvaccinated tourists visiting and diluting their herd immunity?

chocolateorangeinhaler · 16/03/2020 16:01

What vaccine? There is no vaccine. Grow up OP.

MasakaBuzz · 16/03/2020 16:01

@ Rhubarbpeony - you are coming over as a complete idiot. Perhaps you might be better thinking of the impact that this virus is going to have on the thousands, upon thousands of refugees stuck in shit hole camps in Greece.

It’s already in those camps and it’s going to go through them like a dose of salts. There will be no respirators for those people.

They are there because your beloved E.U. has completely fucked up dealing with the situation. Opting for constant can kicking down the road and dumping the situation on Greece.

Open borders not such a good idea now.

What truly pisses me off about this situation is the fact the E.U. are trying to use it to blackmail us into signing up for regulatory alignment ie not leaving the E.U. at all.

You might be happy to be shacked up with such a group of people. I am not.

This situation is going to be shit for all of us in Europe. I worked in Uganda. When it hits Sub Saharan Africa it is going to be carnage.

Try to see beyond your little Remainer bubble.

Idiot.

Farahilda · 16/03/2020 16:01

There is going to be a raft of emergency legislation for many measures to deal with many things icw COVID

It's scaremongering to think they wouid omit something as straightforward as rapid individual approval for a future vaccine which will clearly have met regulatory standards across the globe.

We might even be able to approve it faster than EMA

Chloemol · 16/03/2020 16:02

It’s a pandemic, what do you think those countries outside the Eu are going to do? America, Australia, Japan, South Africa etc? We will all get any vaccine.

Just stop now

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 16:02

Not yet, but there will be. A very short google will show you countless articles about its development.

OP posts:
Absentwomen · 16/03/2020 16:03

@RhubarbPeony,

Is this a thread on CV ?

Are you suggesting that those who voted leave are responsible for the deaths of people in the UK from CV?

That's some direction you're going in....

Iwalkinmyclothing · 16/03/2020 16:03

Have you thought that the reason you lost was because of people like you?

But I thought leave voters made a careful, informed and sound decision? They considered all the facts and cast their vote in the best interests of the country, making use of all the information available. Surely none of them were so limited as to cast their vote for leave because they didn't like the way some remain supporters said things?

Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 16:03

No Rhubarb it’s because of the bigotry that your displaying here. It’s beyond ironic.

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 16:04

@MasakaBuzz yeah because the U.K. had been fucking brilliant at helping refugees, hasn’t it?

We have done barely more than nothing to help these people. It ought to make you sick.

OP posts:
Seventyone72seventy3 · 16/03/2020 16:04

Wow, the brexiteers on this thread seem incapable of explaining their differing opinion without insults. What a surprise.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/03/2020 16:06

MasakaBuzz
Very good post.
DH is Algerian and health provision is not brilliant. They already have cases. Libya is a basket case so a virus outbreak there could be awful. As for sub-Saharan populations especially where HIV rates are high - it’s terrifying.
