How are the brexiteers feeling?

The U.K. will face delays in getting the coronavirus vaccine as a result of our having left the EU. Now that we’re staring down the barrel of tangible consequences for that decision, how are the turkeys who voted for Christmas feeling?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/03/2020 16:50

I didn’t say it would be withheld, I said we would be delayed in accessing it because we are no longer a member of the organisation which allows the EU to make bulk purchases of medicines quicker and for a lower cost than is possible for non member states.

Same thing.

CoronaToner · 16/03/2020 16:50

(also, if you don't shout at the turkey and listen instead, he may actually just have a plan up his sleeve! Perhaps he and his family get really cold in the winter and as he heads for the oven he has a plan to somehow capture the heat and avoid getting cooked, so he can take the heat home for his family. Or maybe that was his plan, but now he's seen the oven, he's worried it won't work. I don't know. But what I do know is that telling him 'i told you so', really won't help or make him feel any better! A heartless person might say 'well die then, told you so', a kinder person would put division behind and help the turkey)

MigginsMrs · 16/03/2020 16:51

Good old Boris, he’ll get it done.

🙄

SoupDragon · 16/03/2020 16:52

If any country makes it difficult for others to access a vaccine they will be pariahs.

CoronaToner · 16/03/2020 16:53

Megan2018 - I like your post.

(I got lost on the turkey metaphor, and trailed off some where!!! So glad to have come out of it!!!)

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 16:53

So just to be clear, do you think that because I am expressing completely justified anger on mumsnet, I’m not also helping people? That’s your view?

Please feel free to advance search my posts - hopefully that will make it clear that I have been doing as much as I can to help people over the last few days. Please be assured that I haven’t checked which way any of the people I have helped voted before helping.

Please also spare me any further turkey based whimsy.

They aren’t going to make it difficult - they just aren’t going to go out of their way to make it easy. WE made it difficult for ourselves by voting to leave.

OP posts:
Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 16:55

I will read where and what I want, and I will post wherever I think is necessary.

As will I.

Ok, no more turkey talk!!! Don't know what happened there!! I was getting myself quite into the story!!! 🐓

SoupDragon · 16/03/2020 16:56

You know that is exactly the same as making it difficult, right?

CoronaToner · 16/03/2020 16:57

(by the way, I voted for leave and wouldn't change my mind :) I'm a happy turkey ;) )

We lost 5,000 EU nurses after the brexit vote.

There is a world outside the EU, they are not the be all and end all and not everyone worships at that particular altar. The GE should have reaffirmed that for you.

However, if you want to make this about Brexit then maybe the Brexit board might be more appropriate, trying to shoehorn it into the CV board for extra traffic is a bit much.

This is a vague and meaningless platitude.

I guarantee someone would have complained about it not being on the CV board and in any event it IS ABOUT CV because I am specifically discussing the effect brexit is having on our ability to deal with coronavirus. On what basis do you think this isn’t a coronavirus topic?!

OP posts:
Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 17:02

I’ve asked MNHQ to drag this back to the Brexit corner.

Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 17:04

Because your using it to have ago at people that don’t have the same opinion as you. This wasn’t a genuine thread for a discussion, you can tell by your to e and aggression.

Go seek some help for your anger

Butterwhy · 16/03/2020 17:05

The phrase turkeys voting for Christmas, eurgh. Hopefully the UK develops a vaccine then, or anyone else in this global crisis. Brexit and this merged is Mumsnet hell.

I don't think you're here to "discuss" anything.
More like berate and belittle people for a problem that hasn't even arisen yet.

Joyfulljenny · 16/03/2020 17:06

Yep - new depths! Misery loves company though!

JudyCoolibar · 16/03/2020 17:07

The thing is, the answer of a lot of Brexiteers to worries about the effects of Brexit has often been by reference to the spirit of the Blitz, we got through two world wars, we're tough enough for anything. And then you look at all the hysteria around panic buying and you start worrying just a bit.

What effect is it actually having, right now? Or did you mean to say "might have"?

Rhubarbpeony · 16/03/2020 17:09

I would love to have a discussion but none of the brexiteers were willing to answer my questions or read the articles I posted. It’s only a discussion if the other parties are willing to participate, but you’re not.

The Guardian article says we could do this;

"There other ways that the UK could mitigate the problems that come with being outside the EMA. One would be to copy Singapore, which has decided to automatically recognise EMA marketing authorisations, as well as those issued by the US Food and Drug Administration..."

If we're going to lower our standards to accept chlorinated chicken then of course we will rush through a coronavirus vaccine if neccessary.
