@sammy @Sammy867 I read that its because Germany are listing the cause of death as whatever underlying issue a patient had, not coronavirus. So the only ones listed are elderly that died of coronavirus that had no underlying health issue. So that may be messing with the numbers as everyone else posting figures as "patient died of coronavirus had underlying issues" while Germany is posting "died of cancer complications." I cant remember where I read it but I'm trying to look it up again. I don't want to present it as fact because until I find the source again I don't know how credible it is, so definitely take that with a pinch of salt.

Dramadrama · 16/03/2020 13:19

Germany may not be listing all deaths as being CV if say an elderly person has preexisting heart failure.

Very thin on the ground on the school run this morning - school staggering start and end times to spread out the parents on the school ground... still waiting on my promised midday uni update...

I have DD1 at home with a sore tummy (I suspect anxiety) and she has a cough most of the winter so can't see her going back to school any time soon just from public perceptions of it despite it being an old cough. I'm going to need to panic buy wine to get me through the endless stream of wittering on!

defthand · 16/03/2020 13:20

Just to reiterate — that worldometers site is not accurate for serious/critical cases.

diddl · 16/03/2020 13:20

Schools closed here, I shopped this morning.

Mum & Dad out with their kid!

What is the bloody point of that?

I wonder if Germany's figures are because people have been tested?

Dramadrama · 16/03/2020 13:20

Cross post!

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 13:21

Total cases are now 1413 and total deaths 24 in the Netherlands.

Confuddledtown · 16/03/2020 13:23

Following my previous comment, I'm taking my lack of finding this information again as confirmation of it being bullshit

how Group C are supposed to know they've had COVID and are therefore ready to fulfil their roles in relieving Group B and getting back into society when we're not going to be testing them.

and we don't know yet if we actually become immune once we have gone through the illness.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 13:25

Andrew Neil - President Macron to address French nation tonight at 8pm Paris time (19:00 GMT). Earlier today France’s director general of health Jérôme Salomon said that the coronavirus outbreak in France is "deteriorating very fast". "The number of cases doubles every three days," he said.'

wheresmymojo · 16/03/2020 13:26

@Angryrant55

Sadly Tory voters tend towards the older voters, the most vulnerable group are more likely to be putting their lives at risk by following current Govt guidelines Sad

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 13:27

@colouringinpro They're not usual cv symptoms. But, do they really know now.

Without testing you'll never know which is crazy.

thesunwillout · 16/03/2020 13:28

Spoken to German relatives, they're only testing bare minimum like here, which might mean the figures are skewed like ours.

Number12 · 16/03/2020 13:29

Nearly 600k on the government petition to close schools.

Forgone90 · 16/03/2020 13:29

@Confuddledtown I actually sort of agree with the way Germany are reporting it tho.. Without sounding harsh a 98 year old man that has coronavirus and died has not really died of coronavirus.. He has died because he is 98 and would likely have died from any mild illness as his immune system would be insanely weak.

Coquohvan · 16/03/2020 13:30

@malpa sorry just map not opening up like your post. Do you have the www will try that.
Thank you for your help.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 13:31

@WhyNotMe40 I'm talking you down! I do have anxiety and that is a fairly normal symptom for me especially when I'm stressed Thanks

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 16/03/2020 13:31

We live in a quite rural but also coastal village, also full of older people. I cannot remember the last time I've seen a proper police officer here, unless driving a car very fast to the town either side. Let alone the army. We do have a PCSO though, but you seen him only in months without an R in the name.

+side: it blows a gale all the time, it would have to be a damn tough virus to survive!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 16/03/2020 13:32

Technically you could be a C a B and an A! If say you're an A&E doctor or a carer with hypertension - you're vulnerable, you have to work, and you have to look after vulnerable people.

DemelzaRobins · 16/03/2020 13:32

My MIL had to go to hospital in an ambulance in the early hours (not due to Coronavirus). FIL wasn't allowed to go with her due to the wider Coronavirus risk.

I'm working from home as I have an underlying condition and will ask my boss for permission to work from home on days I don't need to be in the office to minimise my risk.

My husband's employer is allowing everyone concerned to work from home, not just those with an underlying condition. DH is relieved as he's worried he'll bring it home to me.

I hope the government soon advises the elderly and those who have underlying health issues to minimise social contact.

LBC News - 'Wales has had its first death of a patient who'd been diagnosed with coronavirus. They were 68 and had underlying health conditions.'
